Got a R31 silhouette series2 but looking to upgrade to either an R32 or R33 GTS-T

Feel free to post the pro and cons of these two cars.

I like the way the silhouette handles (stiff shocks and lowered 2 1/2 inches) and i have heard the r32 handles a little better than the r33, is this a weight thing or a shock, spring and suspenion arm setup thing?

whats a reasonable price for these two cars unmodified in ok condition.

I dunno about the r33 having more wow factor ?? MAybe to a bunch of whale schoolgirls haha :D

R32 Gts-t is always going to be faster than a R33 with the same mods because of the lighter weight. R32 also feels more nimble on its feet.

Mine used to run 13.3 with boost exhaust and a intercooler which i think an r33 would be hard pressed to do that.

i like the look of the r32 better (more racey). Did nissan bring out a r32 with the rb25det or would i have to do the converison myself (might aswell do the rb30det conversion then. easy, crazy power) Will the rb30 block fit into a r32?

The same could be said with regards to an S13 and an R32, so the question to be asked is why didn't you get an S13? Any choice you make in a car is a compromise on something and a lot of people seem to forget that. The R32 is not universally better than the R33, nor vice versa.

There's a lot more to choosing a car than getting the lightest thing possible. People continually bag out the R33 for being heavy, but everyone seems to forget that it's still 200-300kg lighter than a Commodore or Falcon.

On top of everything else, my motorcycle is lighter and faster than your R32 :D

yeah see I ran 13.3 without a fmic in the R33 and others with a fmic have run 12.9 on the stock turbo so the old R33's can be made to go quite well. There are alot that are slugs tho' due to poor tuning.

I think the R32 is going to be a better handling choice once modified. And does offer power to weight advantages once serious mods to the engine begin.

If you like the look of the R32 better as more of a raw race look (a lot do), get it. But although they are lighter, the R33's have a bigger, more powerful engine to start with. And in my experience R33's still tend to be quicker with equal mods inspite of the extra weight. If you start looking at other things, the interior or the 33 is much nicer, and basically it is a newer car. Considering they are now going for around the same price, I would go the 33.

Like everyone says.... personal choice

I was in the EXACT same position u r in (had R31 silhouette, and wanted to upgrade), but I made up mind rather quick.....

I picked the R33 for the following reasons:

- I'm 192cm tall, and the R32 (with sunroof) was too squashy

- You spend more time looking at the interior of the car than you do the exterior, so get something you like. Personally, I can't stand the cluster of the R32 coz it reminds me of a VN commodore. The R33 interior is more comfortable....

- Newer car

- And IMHO, I think it looks much nicer.

The main reason I considered the R32, was the cost factor. If I got that, I would have had more money for mods.

So make sure you weigh up all the things that matter to YOU before you make a decision...

Any time this guestion is asked you will always get a whole bunch of R32 owners claiming that their cars are 10% lighter than a R33. (it's more like 4%)

But you won't hear many of them mentioning that the R33 has a 25% bigger engine that is 16% more powerful and has 11% more torque.

Gettin' a little defensive there ay Scottie?

I know the truth hurts mate, but no-one is out to get ya. We're all one big happy Skyline family here, and no one thinks of you any differenly just b/c your R32 interior resembles that of a VN commonwhore. :)

stock R32 can be had for around $14K

stock R33 can be had for around $17K

I went with the R32 because it looked better (IMO), and is less common than the R33. I'd prefer an RB25DET but I'm not really complaining, a lightly modified RB20DET will still knock the pants off most cars on the road.

A RB30DET will fit (barely) in a R32. Sydneykid has one (I think).

If you're a tall bloke the R32 might be a bit squashy for you. I'm 6'1 and 70kgs yet I find my R32 a bit squashy. I'm not sure how I'll trackday with a helmet (I have a sunroof so I have less headroom). The seats are nice and comfy and hold me in tight, if you're large I'd go the R33.

I've driven a friends R33 GTS-T with exhaust, FMIC and a bit of boost - 175rwkw.

It felt so big compared to the R33, the first thing I noticed is it is difficult to see behind you.

The down low torque and seamless boost is very nice to drive. Much better than the no torque off boost RB20 that only just starts to pull around 3.5k.

HOWEVER.. :D

Once on boost I prefered my r32 that was making ~164rwkw on 1 bar of boost. The R32 felt much easier to bag the rears leaving a corner due to its harder hitting torque when punching out of the corner.

Both are nice cars.. I prefer the R32 interior, it is more race feel with tight seats nice sloping dash (unlike a VN which is squarish). I like the R33 shape a little better when it has a large set of wheels, no body kit and a respectable looking exhaust (not to large).

If I were to buy again I would go the R33 as it has a higher final power out put level with less lag. I've come to dis-like the lag of the RB20 in traffic.

It has held its own in the past against a dead stock R33 GTR. At the time I had a full exhaust, 12.5psi, stock IC, stock airbox/filter & 152rwkw.

I launched at ~4000rpm and freaked it with little wheel spin, he launched at 5000rpm however his reaction time was a fraction of a second slower. I held in front through every gear. The LS1 VX Manual was left behind. :)

After all that... Go the R33.

OR...

Find out what is involved with converting (inspections etc) say a cheap, mint condition R32 GTS NA 2.5ltr and build up a 3ltr bottom end, bolt on the RB25DE NA head then bolt on a exhaust manifold/turbo, ecu and make a decent super responsive 450-500hp :D

I love all skylines, I prefer the 33 to the 32, but then again I prefer 4 doors to 2 doors.....go figure. I would ideally like to pass on my 33 to the missus and start again with a 34 4 door. Too pricey at this stage. Which ever you choose will be an improvement on your current ride and you will enjoy. Also there is merit in the fact that the newer the model the better the condition in general. It comes down to budget and features and what you come accross.     • Stock ECU (or more accurately stock tune) absolutely refuses to go over 10psi and behaves like you have seen. The Nistune is the same if it is the stock tune. If the Nistune chip has been tuned, the resulting tune could be literally anything for any combination of parts. The Nistune just makes the stock ECU Tunable.
    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here  
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
