Roy
Couldn't quite manage a 46. Definitely possible a few more laps but the track went away. Cooled off too much. I love how i now have about the slowest GTSt getting around! You will need a 20G, Plazmaman plenum and E85 for next year. Usable 275rwkws would be nice! Shoudl have racked soem fresh tyres for the last session He was amazed that Mark was working in the engine bay, made carbon parts for the car himself, and also drives it. When that was translated into Japanese, the engineer for the Cyber Evo said something in Japanese. The translation in English ? "Superman" Thats what i was thinking when i heard the cars were having problems! The owners, drivers and builders of the car would have been up all night trying to resolve the issue then punt the thing the next day. Impressive that they were able to do it, even more impressive that the thing is so quick! Deano45
Are there any more details on the Lotus Luff was driving? It's a lotus Exige GT3 that runs in the Australian GT championship. Angelo Lazaris owns and drives the car normally. Fully homologated production car that runs the stock 2ZZ-GE but is now turbocharged instead of supercharged. Was only out there for testing as there is a round next week at Eastern Creek. When it started doing quick times, decided to run the wick up a bit and see if it could push the front runners. Reckon it could of gone quicker on a set of super soft dunlops. I was out there helping them with it for the meet. Was right next to Lofty's car which looks and sounds awesome. LSX-438
It amazes me that any car can get under 1:50s on road rubber, so interested to know what tyre works best on a an R35, as they are pretty big and heavy and would need as much tyre as possible. Any idea what tyre the EVOs ran? Were they 8s,9,s or 10s up front? Evo's were mostly running advan ad08's the clubsprint winner ran 265's i think (pretty wide for them). I ran the same tyres but they just didnt work. Too short, vdc had to be disabled to even run in a straight line. I tried some shagged 20" bridgies but they were farked and ran even slower. In terms of a road legal tyre on the r35, you cannot beat a 295/35/18" RE55 i reckon (in terms of lap time) they would have been good for a 43 or maybe a 42 with my car as it is now. But even though they are road legal the clubsprint rules prohibit tyres with a wear rating greater than 100. For the casual track day junkie these would be the best compromise in terms of availability, grip, cost, performance. Just no good for superlap though. They are really a (road legal) r spec tyre anyway. Here's a pic, cooked my brakes! SRS13
It was a great event, a big shock coming from slicks to genuine road tyres i can tell you. well done to the evo boys i think they won every class? Pic of the car looks great. Brakes got a good work out! Obviously a big difference between a slick and road tyre so did you do any testing with the road tyres prior to Superlap to understand how they would fare? The times most were doing were fantastic. Anything quicker than a 1:50 was genuinely considered quick but in this competition being competitive or more rather at the pointy end means something different entirely. Yes i was testing with the advans on thursday, ran a 44.8 but couldnt replicate that unfortunately. Not good enough for Nicks great 44.3 time anyway. Fark i hate street tyres! lol. I know of a couple of clubby cars (at least) that should have run quicker than they did. This sort of event is a lottery. I think three evo's expired on the third lap of first session each day, which stuffed up our optimal runs each time. Plus many others had to deal with traffic etc. Edited May 23, 2010 by LSX-438 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/296249-superlap-2010-ramblings/page/49/#findComment-5249246 Share on other sites
Duncan
I don't know what issues you two have between eachother nor do I care but I do want to clear up the original head gasket failed due to the head stud between 4 & 5 pulling from the block. The fellow on the Nitto stand, Andrew I think it was, was most helpful in tracking down our requirement. So what are you on about champ? lol Paul lives in a parallel universe that revolves around him... apparently I snubbed him last superlap so steve-o is in good company I did see his old car on a stand somewhere ...also, what happened with the pan speed and Berry's 34 at turn 4 in the arvo?looked like berry was on a cooling lap and they got caught up cauing the pan speed off into the grass! looked interesting!!!... pretty sure that's all it was....car on a hot lap and car on a cool down lap. Plenty of cars in each sessions so I am surprised there were not more incidents like that I called duncan steve.. haha good to meet you anyway! FineLine
the sierra sierra car ran a hancook tyre. It really looked like a great semi. They were getting extremely even tyre wear and i spoke to one of the guys who ran targa tas on the same tyre, They claimed they ran the whole of the event on one set of the soft compound for the whole event. Might be a good value high end tyre if it becomes more readily available. Duncan
Absolutely amazing times yesterday, it was great to see! I thought the quickest cars might get to super car speed, and that the 2 local supercars would be in with a chance....wrong on both counts! Here's some tin top lap records at Eastern Creek for reference: Sports Sedan: Darren Hossack Audi A4 1.30.4632 Supercar: Mark Skaife Commodore VT 1:31.7301 Sports Cars: Allan Simonsen Ferrari GT 360 1.33.4054 Super Tourers: Cameron McLean BMW 320i 1:33.8642 Carerra Cup: Alex Davison Porsche 911 GT3 1:34.2011 Improved Production: Dave Loftus Nissan Skyline 1.42.5294 Production Cars: Bob Pearson Mitsubishi Evo 10 1.45.7433 and outright: Nico Hulkenberg (GER) A1 Lola Zytek 1.19.142 So the sports sedan is still quicker, but the Cyber Evo is quicker than everything else. And the Sierra Sierra car is 1/10th slower than the supercar lap record. Wilfred in the Open Class EMO was within 2 seconds of the carrera cup times, and the clubsprint times fit in between IPRA and Production cars (surprisingly slow but I guess tyres were a huge limit....budget and power certainly weren't!) I know there were heaps of people who worked hard to get there and had their challenges. Mark doing a headgasket overnight, and Russ having to ship a bottom end from QLD, build it, and still make the track are among the big stories but there are heaps of others. The pansport rx7 was the stand out in obvious external work, but the the emos and wrxs were remarkable for how standard they look from a distance. Enourmous amounts of development in suspension and aero underneath that are the trick, in fact the power outputs from those cars were surprisingly low. I'd still take the BSM GTR if I had the choice of the keys to any of them, and Russ's 32 after that. But either way there were a heap of very impressive cars there BTW...well done on the EMOs....they had a great showing in every class. Hurts to say but they done damn good! Emo's are definitely the new black Duncan. But dont go thinking they had an easy ride, The sierra sierra garage changed out something like 3 spent turbos and 2 head gaskets as well. Stand out car for me as always is the giant 32, No car on the planet sounds like that thing. The other car I would gladly steal the keys to was that red 32 gtr. I think it ran in the club class. What an outstanding understated beautiful machine it was. Credit to the owner.
