hi there, doesnt look good 4 the dr, need an emission test done and dont like my chances. ne 1 got ne lil tricks to aid in gettin car 2 pass emission test ? im thinkin compliance cat, plumb evry thing back and go bak 2 stok injectors with a lean tune ? maybe tune on e85 (if i can find it ) ne thing else?

also ne 1 been to campletown inspection station ? are these guys ok ?

cheers

harry

solid tune with a working cat and all your emissions gear intact (carbon canister, pcv valve and valve cover breathers) you should be fine.

take it somewhere (performance shop) and get them to tune it again to pass an emissions test, most tuners will know what to do.

need to give us more info to answer your question dude.

lol i cant stand ppl who just ask questions without supplying any info!

what engine is it?

what modifications?

what engine management?

how much boost?

how much power?

etc...

ok sorry no worries its 25 headed 30, high mount billet sgt-3 .7 a/r 82 rear 4 inch inlet. gtr inlet welded onto 25 runners. stock throttloe bodie.

microgues lt 12s with x6 ign. running falco coil. 740cc inj

e boost

296kw @ 12psi.

pcv is hooked up. gate is plumbed bak. blow off vavle removed. rocker breather s go to a catch can then back into turbo intake ? and i have a charcoal canister of an s13 , thinkin i should get 1 from a rb30 31 or 33 rb25 ? not sure but

cheers

yeh im not sure about the carbon canister...

Don't know f**k all about them., but yeh your PCV system and breathers are hooked up correctly.

do you have a good cat converter? <-- this is the important part - get a euro 2 or above and youl shit it in with an RB30.

Dunno if you know but emissions standards are dependent on the year of engine manufacture, so your original RB30 (im assuming its from an R31/30?) will be rated against 1980s emissions standards, which aren't that tight at all...

But defs try get it re-tuned bullshit stock/conservative and see how you go, maybe even E85 if you get desperate.

only problem i can see is those injectors are too big to be controlled at small revs, so you'l prob end up running rich, and in the test, it only simulates everyday nanna driving, i.e. under 4k rpm, and youl hardly go into boost at all. you might need to go back to your stock injectors (or smaller) just to pass the test then whack em back in after.

moral of the story: talk to a tuner in regards to an emissions test. they'll know what to do...

Good luck bud

thanks man, yea the tuners wat got me worried he not all that confident... thats why im afta a few tips/tricks

i heard u can pull wastegate spring out and itl run f all boost ?

supposively the 80s emissions standards changed in 84, the cars an 84, but motor is 86

ive manged to source na injectors that ill slot in 4 the test.

sorry but wat is a euro 2 type cat ? its got a catco on it wich is new but im lookin to change to a standard cat off like a commodore or falcon ?

cheers man, im loosin so much sleep overthis crap,

as for 'tricks' go there are a few things i know of which are 1. restrict your exhaust with a flange that has a 2" hole or a series of smaller holes drilled into it and 2. putting loads of steel wool behind the cat.

'Euro' is an emissions rating. Short for European emissions standards. Pretty much a set of rules that governs the acceptable exhaust emissions, the newer the car, the stricter the emissions standards they have to comply with.

I.E. 'euro 1' was 1992 - 1996, '2' was 96 - 2000, '3' was 00 - 05 etc... were up to euro 5 that started in September.

Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emis..._passenger_cars

Before 1992 they just had a different emissions scheme, and I'm pretty sure it only regulated the amount of carbon monoxide, whereas euro regulates the amount of CO, Hyrdocarbon, particulate matter (unburnt fuel), Nitrogen oxide, and combined carbons.

So in this respect, your very lucky cos you do't have to pass bullshit strict laws like the rest of us (me with a 2003 manufactured engine = :) ).

I reckon if your cat was bought from a decent exhaust shop and has less than 100,000 kms on it, it'll do the job for your car, odds are if you purchased the cat through a decent dealer, it's euro compliant, be it 1, 2, 3 or whatever.

ive manged to source na injectors that ill slot in 4 the test.

Don't just chuck them in, you'll need to get them tuned, cos the ECU will still be opening and closing them like they're bigger ones and you'll run like shit. Don't just take off the wastegate actuator either, cos you'll run bullshit rich, your carbon level will go through the roof and you'll fail with flying colours so to speak...

Wat I reckon to do is put the stock injectors in, and get a conservative tune until they almost max out (what ever boost pressure that is), and make sure all your engine vitals are in order (clean catch can, fresh/newish sparkplugs, good oil level, good coilpacks etc...)

Oh and what 'security' said, the steel wool works a treat, captures all the soot and shit, so less comes out the tail pipe. just don't put it too close to your engine, cos there's a risk you can ingest some of it back into your engine!

Hope it goes all good for ya man, I know how much of a flamin mongrel these tests are...

Thought of the day: The total amount of cars' emissions in the world, only account for 3 f**king % of the total carbon output into the atmosphere per year. NATURAL volcanoes account for around 5%... So next time the Government/Media tries to blame carbon emissions contributing to global warming on average Joe and Jane citizen like you and I, with their 2 cars and average house, tell them to f**k off. Cos its the coal burning, oil burning factories and large scale manufacturing that's doing the damage...

guy at waminda does decc inspections...ie noise and mods to anything that may change your emmissions. i had to have stock eveything, except my 3.5in exhaust past. 89.94db, max is 90 for r32. standard intercooler(not even return flow), pod, and your airbox has to have a snorkel or he'll knock you back...i just passed it last friday. not sure about what he'll have to say about bigger turbo though.

Are your sure its an emissions test at Campbelltown?

Normally the guy on Waminda Ave is checking the DECC stuff - like exhuast mods/PODs, but not actually testing your emissions....

yea na my mistake, sorry i got confused botany was the 1

beatiful, thanks !

thanks all 4 the responses

ill be tryin out those lil tricks this weekend, it does make me feel a bit more confident knowing my car/ motor only needs to comply with a fairly reasonable limint compared to late model cars, i have gotton 2 differernt gas limitrs 1 from rta an 1 from hit man (thanks craved )

both same bar hydro carbons ?

hitman : thc 2.1

nox 1.9

co 24.2

rta thc 1.75

nox 1.9

co 24.2

im guessin the test at botany and penrith would be exactly the same ?

car will be fully returned to suit the injectors and wat ever else needs to be done , suxs but, its the worst time in the year to get this crap don, tuners not lookin good 4 3 weeks, and its still a maybe from him, my fingers are crossed!\

if i win the lotto ill be sending it 2 hit, man.

the whole exercise is a massive burn, but/ if it does pass itl be all worth it.

on a good note i have solved my sleeping problem, i just drink till i pass out...

Just went through same. I dont have a microguess, so maybe thats where I differ

Just passed but could have done more if required, I agree, this shyte cuased me to take like 3 effen days off work, just to go and fail, go and fail, go and pass!!!!

f*k thats 3rd time lcky !, wat computer u using ? i thoought if it came to it i could wire in a stok 33 computer. rather not but.

this whole exercise is a massive burn.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
