I'd have to go with the 'wash it at a servo' idea. I gave mums Vectra loan car a bit of a hiding when she had - the result was less than inspiring.

well, mums vectra is getting traded for a reasonably new audi on friday....

what would you do to make "the most of it" lol

drags? thrashing? maccas trays?

obviously it has to be in running order before we hand it over.. so cant be totally farked.....

vectra?

i'd make the most of my time and leave it untouched.

but i guess morals and ethics have played small a part in shaping me into the 'reasonable' person that i am today. :)

Flipping the tables for a second - i'd drop my shit if thats my mates old but 'reasonably new' audi you're looking at buying.

maybe (just maybe..) he had the same idea as you before trading? UHOH! hahhahahahahah

Personally I would make sure I checked it just to ensure that I left nothing behind (under seats/mats etc) and leave it sitting at home so there is no risk in damaging it. You're about to take delivery of a new Audi why risk stuffing up that by having a (limited) thrash in a Vectra beforehand? What if you break something or hit something? How much would you kick yourself later?

Maybe at 25 yo im getting too old for this sort of thing. I say give it a 2 min wash at the servo then hand it in.

What is so exciting about flogging a Vectra anyways? A month after youve dropped the car off you'll barely remember it unless you do completely stuff it.

this is pretty much true

and ur posting on a skyline forum as well, why thrash a vectra?

funny story while we are sortof on the topic...

My old man had a Rolla Silver Spirit yonks ago, we sold it about i dunno 15 years or so ago to a car yard, traded it in for a merc and got money our way.

The thing is the car looked the part, it started and sounded well, but it had a blown head gasket lol, $30k job on that car back then...

A eropean used car yard didnt bother to see if the thing had any gutts lol, oh well not my job to check it, thats why they have mechanics...

*disclaimer SAU doesn't condone my post nor do i, wasn't me who traded the car in :)

hahahaha sorry guys i started this thread as more of a joke not overly serious to be honest...

its seen redline a few times but i have too much mechanical sympathy to rip the ass out of it...

sheesh you lot are fun killahs!

it is 3.2l fwd so it suprisingly bags up the fronts, esp in the wet.. a bit out of control

im not washing it, its going in with bird shit and all on the car, and hopefully with as little petrol as possible in the car too :)

oh david - its insured for 18k so im hoping someone hits the car or it gets stolen, written off then we will be 7k richer in the end!

it is 3.2l fwd so it suprisingly bags up the fronts, esp in the wet.. a bit out of control

Lol. A Hyundai Excel running on 3 cylinders could bag em up in the wet with some agro.

Terry, picking it up today...

The guys at audi had their xmas party yesterday and the leather hadnt been completed so it got pushed back a day...

dosent bother me if anyone thrashed it before us, ill make up for that hahahahahaah KIDDING

And the verdict is ???

It wasn't the same Audi where the former owner posted up a thread on 'ozAudi' saying "What Would You Do To A Car Before You Traded It In..." ???

Hehe, Nah - hope it's a good one! >_<

hahahahaha i sware this audi has had maccas trays under the wheels at some stage!

Terry - the a3 is great, engine is very perky, lots of pull from down low, the dsg shifts so quickly its so so easy to speed, paddles on the steering wheel are like a playstation!... launch control is fun too!..

new leather is great, love the sunroof, and the sound system is amazing for a stock car... it hits corners very hard, you would never guess this is the fwd model... it is a bit quicker than the quattros ive driven (less drivetrain loss and 250kg lighter!!!) so its quick!

racked up 150kms last night, and looking forward to many more!

Love this car!

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
