I could never buy one as there are 100 billion lancers that drive around here all day, even tho Evos are in a class of their own, are fast and different to normal lancers.. at the end of the day its still a lancer, and there is 100 billion little lookalikes driving around.

atleast the nonturbo skyline range is basically identicle in looks and respect

I have a mate that is waiting for his bank to give him the nod to purchase one of these suckers. What I'm telling you is pretty much what the dealer said to him. Test drive isn't a drive around the block. Bloke said that it's a blast out somewhere decent because that's where it'll shine at it's best. Because he was at the Sutherland Mitsu, I hope they give him a blast down through the national park.

I'm not sure if it's the same Brembo's as the R34. I thought the R34's were 4 pot also? I also thought that there was a variation between the standard GTR and a V Spec as standard is 300mm and Vspec is 333mm or so.

If it came down to the crunch between an evo or an R33/34 GTR i know which ide choose :(

Skylines made HKS/APEXI/TRUST and 90% of the other japanese performance brands what they are today, and dont forget they didnt just choose to do skylines up cos they 'look good'

why is it that evos never get done up by big companies? im sure some have, but i definately havent seen many

nissan ---> GTR = Probably the most over engineered car ever made

i still want a drive in an evo just see what the hype is all about

A brand new EVOVIII at $70k or close to it is a bargain, considering what the older models still go for here, if you can even get one. They're meant to be better than the STi in every single respect. Personally I don't think the STi are that great (comparable to a well modified GTS-T), you'd want something fast for that price. Interior sucks, and really doesn't look all too much different to any $20k lancer, but oh well, you get the performance.

I think its good they're bringing it out locally at a competitive price. They'll do a 0-100km/hr in 4.5sec or close to it with just a boost up.

Externals look a bit ugly, and still don't think i'll ever get used to the new "face" of mitsu - EVOVII looks better if you ask me, squarer = tougher.

Stock for stock, it's hard to say which is better, quicker, etc... The philosophy behind both cars are different. The EVO cars have rally DNA while the GTR has Group A DNA.

One thing is for sure though. Out of the box, the EVO is quick. Looks, it's in the eye of the beholder, or BEER holder! :(

It's just a well modified car, I don't think there are any special secrets about it...

If it came down to the crunch between an evo or an R33/34 GTR i know which ide choose :(

they are all in different price leagues, as such, totally different cars.

i know which one id choose too :D

Skylines made HKS/APEXI/TRUST and 90% of the other japanese performance brands what they are today, and dont forget they didnt just choose to do skylines up cos they 'look good'

haha, i dont know where you come up with some of your nonsense

why is it that evos never get done up by big companies? im sure some have, but i definately havent seen many

is Mitsubishi Ralliart a big enough for you? didnt you see my Jun link previously posted? Mines & Veilside are another 2 Jap companies that have Evo demo cars just off the top of my head....

hahahaha, you'd better pull off your skyline blinkers from the sides of your head, its starting to make you go blind!!! :(

i still want a drive in an evo just see what the hype is all about

hahha, hype....its no hype mate, evo's are not NEW.

hmm. i think being in a evo wouldnt feel that good . but itd be fast. anyone know what  a standard evo can be pushed too with zort+filters ? ( PSI WISE )

evo's interior has progressed, i reckon the 7 and the 8 are quite nice.

that said, nothin's flash about the 32 and 33 skylines.

Those trying to compare an R34 and an Evo 8 need to realise that they are priced completely differently. The R34 commands alot more money than an Evo 8, further an Evo 8 also costs more than a regular Sti (The true competitor in terms of price to the Evo 8 is the Sti Spec C...of which the spec C is faster in all aspects). That said, the recent release of the Evo 8 MR costs slightly more, whose sole purpose i suspect was to beat the Spec C.

Please try to compare apples with apples.

That said, the (stock) Evo 8 is great value for money, with an average driver it will beat a stock R34 GTR in most tracks we visit today bar the largest high speed tracks. (i.e Nurburing?)

that is pretty crap , a 4 cylender out performing a 6cyl rb26dett.

you'd think the r34 gtr vspec 2 is excellent. but looses against a lancer evo 8 :D . ive seen a vidio of a EVO 7 RS vs R34 GTR VSPEC 2. the VSPEC 2 won by about 1 second.

man, you dont understand - its not 4cyl vs 6cyl or 2.0ltr vs 2.6ltr....it comes down to power:weight ratio!

...SIMPLE AS THAT.

Mitsubishi has quoted the Following:

1. 100 Evo 8 arriving June about $70k on the Road (60-65 +ORC)

2. If they sell, a further 100 coming in 2005

3. ONLY the 195 Kw model coming to AUST, not the 206 or 235 Kw

4.The EVO 6.5 did not sell well and thus many were used as company cars By Mitsi AUST., rather than discount new cars they are for sale thru dealers like Paul Wakeling, Kakimoto etc for $52k + On Road + GST. They are called 2nd hand and not Demos as they all have 4/03 start of warranty (2 year) All have under 10,000km.

5. The wholesale value of the TME cars is $46k (Aust Del) less for imports.

6. 6.5 Power is 10 Kw above post 01 STI but they are 200 Kilos lighter thus the better performance.

7. factory figures are 13.1 SSQ and 5.0 0-100

This is the information I have got to date as I have a friend that has bought two (6.5) for racing

how can u guys compare cars going around the tsu... whatever circuit ... have a look at the cars man ... its no longer an evo ... its a different car that looks like an evo ... kinda like v8 supercars and SS commie ...

anyways my 2cents ... if i had to pick a evo8 or an sti ... evo8 for sure!!! if i have to pick an evo8 or gtr ... gtr for sure!!! if i had to pick a monaro or a gtr ... i'd piss on the monaro and drive away in the gtr :D

how can u guys compare cars going around the tsu... whatever circuit ... have a look at the cars man ... its no longer an evo ... its a different car that looks like an evo ...

How do you figure that? Of course it's still Evo... the driveline, engine, bodywork and interior (whats left of it) are all as Mitsubishi intended, with a number of parts upgraded. We're not talking about engine transplants, completely different suspension designs or re-designed bodywork.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
