usually there is a thread in the Japan section with a few people organising to meet there from both here and SAU'ers that are over there...

But there appears to be no such thread this year! :D

Would you be able to move it there please?

Cheers Ash

  • 3 weeks later...

Just rocked into Tokyo , a quick burn round the city and kicking back with a beer and about to head out for a feed.

Either going to Mines open day tomorrow and Auto salon Sunday or vica versa but I'll be definitely at Daikoku Futo on Saturday night. My hotel is about 10-15mins away.

Looking forward to a good weekend!

Just got back and quite dissapointing this year. Seemed to have fewer cars and the booths were less than impressive and smaller. Perhaps cutting down on cost and the number of people there seemed lower.

Nissan wise, no interesting 35 GTR's but a couple of nice 34's. The car that caught my attention however was an S class Benz, I love this ....

Yeah I was out at Mines this arvo and was haivng a good chat and they reckon they pulled the pin due to the cost of a booth these days at the Salon and globl economic woes.

A few others have done the same and for some other big names this will probably be their last.

Went to Daikoku Futo there were heaps of cars and couldnt get in !! Cops came and shut it down real early!

Just did a few laps in the GTR around the place and watched a bit of the cop battle from outside .

Everyone was heading to another car park out at Ibaraki but headed back to hotel via a few highway runs.

Pretty dissappointing its over so bloody early these days!!

Yeah I was talking to Jap mate who went out friday night and said fri was good.

Carpak was packed Sat night but ccps were anal about shutting it down.

Pretty funny to listen to them telling everyone " could you please return home, if not we will come to your house and have a talk with you"

Technically in Japan they cant really do a thing to you but tell you to move on but on the other hand technically they can throw you in the slammer for a month without laying any charges on you. Thus the reason everbody bails !!

There was some fast cars flying on the highways last night but no fun for me with limiter kicking in at 4000rpm on new engine tune.

Yeah Japanese can have some of the worst customer service at times.

Mines could have made that alot more customer friendly. E.g free coffee, maybe some bargain specials, just be a bit more open. It was an open day after all !!

Even being able to speak Jappa to them and not the first time there, they were hard to get much enthusiasm out of them.

After having a good yak to them and them saying about not doing Auto Salon due to costs and economic woes you think you be doing your best to attract potential customers.

But thats the Japanese way. Live here long enough an you'll understand, same way you'll understand what its like to bang ya head against a wall everyday.

Got some good pis of the 34 and the misso got some sly pics of both the 35's.

I realised today that I must have been staying in the motorbike capital of Japan (Ueno), been hearing bikes roaring up and down the Chuo Expressway all week.

I agree, I knew Autosalon must've been smaller this year when I didn't see a few stores there and it only took half the day to go through the whole thing. A bit dissapointed too.

Quite liked staying in Ueno, plenty of food and things to look at. The museums were also a good timewaster. Might stay there again next time, nice and easy to get to anywhere you need to quickly. It's on the JR Yamanote Line and the Keisei Skyliner departs to the airport from Ueno.
