OK, so firstly....when fitting cam shafts into your engine...be sure to tighten the bolts holding the bearing clamp over the cam lobes that are having to push down on the valves first!!!

you do this to avoide snapping the camshaft like i just did! and these were Tomie Camshafts that i just purchased second hand for a very good deal.

this was a very expensive $500 lesson i just learned!

anyway life goes on and i must not let my anger consume me anymore....

so time for more cam shafts! i will be buying these on monday or tuesday and as a result i now have a new choice....

Just Jap are the only place i know that has the Tomie cams instock and they are $1200. i know a place i can get the HKS stage 1 cams for my RB25 for $1500 for the pair.

so given now that there is only a $300 difference...should i get the HKS ones for the Topmie ones???

Points to consider:

i am running a HKS GTRS turbo with Plazmaman Plenum and HPI Ex Manifold and 3" Kaikimoto Exhaust and HKS Dump (power FC for computer and all other normal supporting mods, IC, Inj, AFM, etc)

Car is driving 90% on the street to work everyday. it sees track time approximatly once a month.

what power was the car making with out cams?

i had a similar set up with HKS INLET, Duration 256. Lift 8.8mm,EXHAUST, Duration 264. Lift 9.0mm and they are excellent you can get them deliverd for just under a$1000.

As an alternative, price up a set from Kelford and Tighe. Neither are likely to retain VCT, so factor in vernier cam gears (if you don't have them already).

The Jap stuff is obviously very good, but remember there are alternatives - provided you're then prepared for an hour on the dyno to dial the cams in.

Bummer about breaking a camshaft though. Hasten slowly, and use your eyes as you go.

So sorry to hear about the incedent.

I chose the HKS cam as they are the largest cam that retain the VCT on the inlet which is exactually the same as warlord's spec's.

This is a choice if you are considering retaining the vct.

other then that go the kelford or camtech.

Ah yes well you see here lies a small thing... I did snap the exhaust cam. But in my fustration and anger for being so stupid I just threw it all out and in doing so dropped the intake cam and damaged it.

looks like a new set then eh.

are you sure Camtech ones are non VCT?

So on to what to order tomorrow morning...

Hks cams or tomei poncams???

or should I try Procams 260 with 8.8mm lift?!? What happens if I don't upgrade to new vale springs?

all depends on seat pressure vs boost level you are planning to use

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG is has not responded to my emails so far after purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
