I'm currently using metal jerry cans which are starting to piss off. Leaking all of my/Duncans feet sucks let alone a scrut seeing it. Oh yea it's proberly just a little dangerous as well.

Years ago I used ex army ones bit rust took over so I went to the usual $50-60 buck Repco/Super Cheap crap,,,but they all bloody leak.

So I'm looking for a quality alterative.

Searching the interweb it seems the drag guys use plastic ones,,,but not the cheap same jerry can shape plastic rubbish.

VP fuels and RCI make what looks very good quality ones,,,but are they???. It also seems theres limited places to buy them,,,I may well get raped by Rocket ect.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Neil.

hey neil

i bought some rocket ones, they leak too the cap has hole in it for breathing , crap seal too.!

also if you leave fuel in them for very long especially when transporting( getting shakin around) the fuel vapour is released and you can be left liquid that is no longer really race fuel., causing misfires and injector issues.

we run sealed 20 ltr containers , 60's or 205's.

cheers russ

I bought some cheap crap ones from bunnings for $20, and they never seal and leak all of the time.

I remember seeing some fancy ones when looking for mine for my motorbike. It has a fueling system built in so you can just tip it upside down to fill up and it wont leak.

I'll have a bit of a look and let you know.

Ballards sell them, they are called tuff jugs.

Supposed to be for motorbikes, but that's what your car is really, isn't it?

The idea is a quick fill system, but looks like it will be a bonus for you if it fills quick.

I bought two 1/2 decent 20L plastic jobbies from *i think* repco that I carry to track days. They have a little rubber oring on the cap and never leak even when full lying down in my boot. So far they have lasted 5 years.

As long as the actual cap thread isn't the issue I suppose you could always get an oring to seal the cap and can.

After getting sick to death of filling our sprinter with Jerry cans (fuel cell in the boot), We ended up getting a couple of empty 50 L drums from LWR, look like these. have a metal cap and the rotary hand pump screws straight into them for a spill free fill.

Be even nicer if they still had ELF in them :(

Ditto that, and they've been ok so far. Only had them for two years though.

Thanks Guy's,,,love the responses. If I'd asked this question anywhere else I would have got rubbish reply's and would still be none the wiser. You guy's are RAD.

Russ,,,which did you buy,,,the RCI or the VP or the Jaz?.

Stuart,,,yes I pegged your's,,,where did you buy them?. Your the one that gave me ideas.

Jason they look like the ducks guts,,,.

Which brings me to a little problem I have with the Radical,,,it has no fuel gauge and no hope of ever fitting one. So what I have to do is go out with ex amount of fuel,,,drain the tank after the session and measure it. I was think the Jaz/VP/RCI ones,,,I could mark the outside and maybe see how much fuel I've used.

Boy's while the Elf cans and Rotary filler would be great,,,sadly no. Great for Tarmac stuff as you guy's need fuel dumped in quickly,,,I don't. I had a thought though,,,As some of you well know,,,I work for BMW and we get brake fluid in 30 litre drums of which are German and are of high quality. We actually do store fuel in them and they have the screw on fitting,,,we throw them away after use. These could be good for you guys.

ive got a funny feeling your not allowed or supposed to use metal containers, due to the risk of static disharge.

maybe its an andra thing and no a cams rule. i can get plenty of VP twenty litre drums if you like.

I've ordered 2 Jaz white containers from Revolution,,65 bucks each,,,I'm thinking I'll order 1 more. I took a blue one out into the sunshine today and could see though it. They have a an o-ring fitted cap and a lttle breather near the handle.

Time will tell if they are better than the tin crap that leaked everywhere today.

    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. Rb25det s1 walbro255 fuel pump nismo fpr holset hx35 turbo fmic 3" exhaust freddy intake manifold q45tb q45 maf   Re: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:07 am No, I didn't. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
