Whatever happened to the dob in a hoon hotline?
there's a bigass billboard with a hotline number on the entrance to the Western Ring Road on the Greensborough Bypass. Sounds like it's privately run though, no signage about council or police involvement.

how do you agree with both ash and sami?

thing with that hoon hotline is that you've gotta also be willing to testify in court (at least you had to beforehand), especiallly if the cops didn't get them red handed. I don't like to dob, especially not in a rural area, cause once you've made a name for yourself as a dogging bastard then people go out of their way to make life hard for you.

yeh u could be right, some pricks tryin to make a buck outta people probably. I recall once now tellin a cop that a guy on his phone cut me off n I have his plates n time of event. Cop shrugged it off n said he has to see it. So makes me wonder if anything actually is done about the more minor offences? Had a bottle thrown at my mates car n cops said they'd look into it. Makes me wonder...

dob in a hoon is stupid. i got a letter saying that someone saw me tailgating and speeding at a time i was at work its ridiculous. i called the number which was the fawkner traffic police and told them about it and he said they probably got the number plate wrong and it happens often, i then asked does this go on any record of mine and he said no so hopefully it doesnt because i dont want some made up crap on my clean record.

te police cant do anything unless the witness is willing to go to court, what they do is bully or trick you to confess what you did and bang your done and they dont need a witness. very simple keep your mounth shut and dont say you did or didnt do it if questioned, if you say no you didnt do it then goes to court with the witness and proven guilty your in more shit. simply say back to the officer, you have the report of what events have been reported and i have nothing to say about the matter. bang they leave with there tail between there legs.

now i dont mind dobbing in a drunk driver and a excessive hoon but i dont simply dob someone in for doing a skid sometimes it might make my day, more to the point if there putting other ppl a risk other than there own i dont have a issues with making a call.

with the EPA shit, you have to realize that some ppl are not all as lucky as we are and dont have the option to buy a decent car. there are some ppl struggling out there and also realy on there car to get to and from work to just make a living to feed themselfs and family, you take this away from them thats it no work? and who pays the price well us in the end because we pay tax that is then the doll for them. sometimes you have to think about being on the other end of that stick not everyone was delt the best hand of cards in there lifes.

all because you have to smell abit of smokey oil in traffic or you pissed because you get epa all the time and there still driving around? all i can say is grow up maybe move out of the city in a quite country town where the air is freash? and EPA its the price we pay to drive jdm cars nothing going to change that never will so sell your car if you nickers are in that big of a knot about it and buy a prius (hybrid thingy whateva they are).

peace out.

Me and a Mate once dobbed a guy in for txting on his mobile. It was a 110km zone on a busy highway and he nearly had 4 head ons in under 2 minutes. Althought my mate was driving and making the "dobbing" phone call to the cops...

I should of called the cops and dobbed him.

but back to serious... I didn't feel bad at all because if the guy had a head on and killed 3 kids and a mother / father then it would of been our fault for not preventing / reporting it..

Even if it was the cops pulling him over for a warning... it would make him think twice before doing it again.

Final thought:

We all go silly in our cars once and a while. We just need to pick the right place to do it...

Any1 that is dobbing ppl in for breaking road rules/EPA with any intention other that trying to block up the system, u guys are seriously rats. Geez, i thought it was the baby boomer generation dobbing ppl in.

In the case of some1 doing vandalism/robbery/assault then of course dob in. Theres a diff b/w trying to make a situation better and simply just dobbing ppl in that are doing no harm to u.

Great - Sami went quiet, always rely on you though.

Its not to block up the system. It is legitimate smokey vehicles that should be off the road.

The EPA chase after modified cars with laws neraly 20 years old. They are dated and hold zero relevance in many cases.

So it's just getting the system working and focusing on doing some real work is the aim here - like most Gov't departments (or contactors in the EPA's case, they are just going after the easy work - modded cars)

Exactly. I'll happily report an extreme case where someone has/is likely to endanger someone else's life. I wouldn't ever report something minor. How would you feel if you spotted a drunk driver swerving on the wrong side of the road, decided it wasn't your place to report it and then end up hearing that half an hour later they had a head-on with a car packed with a family? You'd feel pretty f*cking shit I'd imagine. Some of us are born with a conscience.

ok u seem to have a hard head

let me break it down to u, u dick knob

1 family: $400/week to live on with 3 kids: cant efford a new car hence get a cheapo

it f**ks up, they dont have money to fix it and its their only form of transport so if u dob them in then they dont have money to fix it and dont have a car to go work with/take kids to school/ go shopping in

on the otherhand f*kheads like u who have millionair parents dont give a rats ass about having an EPA as u can just give it to a mechanic with a lump sump of money and BINGO they do it all for u

THATS my point

i said before that i wont reply but u seem to be getting more and more stupid by each reply

you dont phase me with your shitty "need a tissue" reply

just coz u are a moderator doesnt make u any better then any one of us it just means ur good at sucking dick

im out

peace out

EVER heard of public transport?

The people you are describing sounds like the typical "sits at home & do nothing but leeches off center link" kind.

Whats more, I have to pay tax in order to keep these bloody leeches alive...

So no, if they can't pay to get their car up to standard then take public transport. I have no sympathy for center link leeches.

I have to pay to get my car up to standard & I only have a crappy part time job so I don't see how it should be any different for them.

Finally even if I'm the world's richest person, I still give a rat ass about having an EPA as it costs time & money.

ye coz there is public transport everywhere right?

and who said they dont work? how would they get their $400/week?

u have too much hate son u need a root or something to releaf yourself before coming to assumptions... just coz there are ppl out there on centrelink doesnt mean everyone is

only about 6-7% of ppl are on centrelink from wat i know

u dont have a wife and 3 kids do u? and rent and all the bills to pay with a part-time job

if u do then i highly doubt u could efford to keep your car running and keeping the family alive on a "crappy part time job"

pull the sticks out of your asses and see the other side of the fence

no argument there

its a hassle for all of us. my whole point is that u wouldnt have to worry about it as much as someone who cant efford it

guys sami has a point, there are bludger that sit on the dole and choose to have "worse" cars( not a fan either and piss me off big time), others are forced into situations (eg. immigrations, GFC lose of job, parents passing away etc)

While i would report a driver that is blind drunk (which i have previously) or someone that is SERIOUS danger to others, i don't think it my job to start reporting P-plater/ students/ less fortunate who are just trying to make some cash, driving to work. Once i finished school (yr12) i bought a Sh*t box and work 30min away from home, starting at 6am. What public transport service can i catch?? anyone?

After the 4 months, just before uni started i managed to put aside a packet and bought another car. Everyone has to start somewhere! so i reckon that everyone needs to relax a bit on here and put yourself in someone elses shoe's for a sec and think.

Not really right to judge a book by its cover, but 9 out of 10 times u can tell wat sort of person the driver is just by looking at time; part of the centerlink race team lol or someone that is trying to "work' out of a tough situation.

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
