hey guys i need some advice on my setup currently

here are the mods

completey stock rb25 motor

hypergear GT3582 turbo anti surged slotted

50mm external wastegate

740cc injectors

Link G1 ecu

walbro intank pump

stock fuel regulator

splitfire coilpacks

now with the turbo exhaust side i re used my kkr .69 housing which has been modified to suit 50mm gate off it.

I got the car tuned 2 weeks ago and made 400atw on 1.3 bar boost

The dumpipe currently on the car is a 2.75" vband cast iron thing u get from otomoto which then connects to 3" front pipe thru to gutted cat and 3" xforce canon

What i wanna know is basically the car is very laggy, im not seeing 1.3 bar boost until 5000-5500rpm, even between gear changes it will lagg if i dont slam gears to build boost back up.

Could i do something to bring this on harder/sooner? bigger dumpipe? adjustable exh cam gear?

any advice would be great thanks guys.

haha cant flatshift man syncros are on there way out to 8 test n tunes will do that :laugh:

nismoid, that i mite try, u mean just take off the vacum line and see how fast it builds boost hmmm i think link is set 21psi boost cut so should be fine

i think he is referring to the map based ecu cutting ignition @ anything over 21psi. so as long as it is tuned with enough tolerance for that much boost it should be o.

Does your wastegate have any preload adjustment? mine with no extra preload would quickly ramp to 15psi and then slowly edge its way to ~19psi @ 5500-6000. wind some preload into the gate and boost ramps up to 19 around 3500

Which kkr turbo was the housing off? FWIW i made 327rwkw on a 3582 .63 @ 18psi on a stock 26, but for the power i felt it was slow to make boost/had a high boost threashold, but was not laggy between gearchanges.

From KKR's website it says its a .69 Turbine. But who knows. Still, 400rwhp on a fully stock Rb25 at 18psi is not bad.

The size of the turbo is just too big for fast response. Sale that and get them to make you a GT3071 equivalent or high flow your stock turbo.

NO offense, but your turbo is a bitsa, front is capable of over 360rwkw, with a tiny exhaust housing that is probably worse than the .63 garrett. Im surprised hypergear suggested such a setup

He never suggested i re use my exhaust housing, i asked for it because its already modified to fit external wastegate setup so it was less fabrication 2 be done.

The wastegate is a 50mm purple looking one from otomoto.com.au runs 1bar spring, ive actually got the top pre load screw wound all the way in to hold 1.3 bar boost

there is also 1 more vacum fitting on top of the wastegate near the pre load screw not 2 sure wot it does?

do u think i would gain anything by buying a .63 garrett exhaust housing? is 400rwhp at 18psi still achievable?

or would .82 be more the go?

not interested in gt30 series ive been in a r33 with gt3082 and it didnt wow me at all.. had near 380rwhp and felt boring as...

as for highflow , i wouldnt want to waste my money, i been thru 2 highflows from slide yrs ago and they were just plain boring.

you use both vacuum fittings if your using an ebc.

have you gone for a drive with the vac line disconnected yet? no point looking at different housings until you sort your boost issues out

probaby because a GT3082 is a totally rubbish mis-matched turbo and to make things worse, if that's all the power it made, it's probably .63 which makes the mis-match of compressor and turbine way worse again. If u get in a car with a RB25 and a GT3076R .82 and a really good tune and it WILL wow you!

You need to remember that the R in an A/R is effectively the radius of the exhaust turbine, so when your exhaust housing was opened up for the 3582 wheel, it decreased the A/R, possibly to .5

No amount of overboring a housing to accept larger turbine rotor will impact on the A/R.

A = cross sectional area of the scroll

R = radius from the shaft axis to centroid of the scroll at the point of measuring the cross sectional area.

Basically A/R is fixed.

I'd suggest a call to Hypergear and consult with Stao.

Dale i have had a few talks with him and he suggests exh cam gear but my tuner says it prob wont gain much if anything at all.

yes ur are correct its .63 and its so boring and linear power sorta just revs from 3500 onwards speedo moves but u get no kick what so ever

DON'T use a GT3082R .63 as an example of ALL GT30 turbos.

I think your best bet is to chuck on a GT3076R .82 and U won't be disappointed. They're good for about 330rwkw (440hp) with stock cams and about 360rwkw (480hp) with some drop-in 260 tomei cams or similar. Should hit boost hard at 3500 and just HAUL to redline.

I just read your first post. I hope that's 400 kilowatts at the wheels and not horsepower. If it's horsepower, you can make MORE than that with 3076. I'm guessing it's horsepower because there's no way a walbro in-tank could supply enough fuel for 400rwkw.

My GT3082R on my RB25 was a brilliant turbo... relatively responsive and went hard.

Jesus some of you guys inflate power outputs and what people should expect from their car. Jump on the RB25 results thread, you dont see too many people with bolt on mods cracking 400rwhp (genuine). Its not that easy.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
