Where are you located? There is only one tuner in Melbourne I know of that has managed the install on my VQ25det, Cihan (Etuner). Trent at Status should be able to help too.

Understand the Emanage ultimate will be fighting the factory ecu the whole way. What do you hope to adjust with it and what are your goals?

I am located in NSW. I current got cold air inatke, custom manifold, full xforce exhaust, skunk2 plenum spaces. I am just looking to get more power from the mod i got atm....any other ecu maybe that are not too expensive?

cheers

You could try cough... Cryodon Motorsport... cough (I know there are some out there that don't like their work) but I was quoted $1400 for a drive-in, drive-out deal of a Haltech Platinum Interceptor (the Piggy Back one), wiring loom and tune. Which seemed reasonable when I costed the other options.

They said they had done a couple of V's and were getting peak gains of 10-15rwkw and much better bottom-end and midrange. These were on stock cars and some with Cat back exhaust and Cold Air intakes.

I'm told by my mechanic that if you are thinking Forced Induction later on, go with the Haltech because it has enough functionality to handle the F.I. and the E-Manage doesn't, though others who have FI might have a different opinion but I'm just adding that incase it's part of your decision process.

If you go for the E-Manage (which I was going to do when a friend was parting out his car), just be mindful that the loom can be $300-$400 and most places want anything up to $600 for a tune (if they aren't selling you the whole package), so it can work out more expensive and with no warranty coverage.

If you do want to go with the E-Manage, I'd say you could also try Just Engine Management (J.E.M.) at Ingleburn (SW Sydney), they have done a few R33's with the E-Manage and the owners were happy.

Ultimate with a boost sensor will handle the FI no problems. I have heard differently with regards to the Haltech, heaps of problems. Definitely do not rush in, there isnt much in the way of experience with these ecu's and you don't want to be paying for the tuner's learning curve on the dyno.

Good to hear both sides of the options. I might have to do some more reading before I head down the Haltech path too then!

E-manage Ultimate has much better options list than Haltech Interceptor. (Side note: if your car supports phasing on inlet AND exhaust cam, Haltech Interceptor won't work). EMU is quite comprehensive, but like Scott mentioned you are effectively bound by factory ECU programming ... there are good and bad points to this fact however.

That said I am having trouble with my own EMU install, so if anyone can help (and sorry to hijack thread) ... my EMU is reading a constant +5v TPS (5.07V to be exact) at startup which is triggering anti-foul mode on the EMU and cutting fuel. So the car is cranking with spark (presumably) but isn't starting...I haven't had a lot of time to get into it but suspect either faulty harness or some sort of interference. I don't think it's a wiring issue, but could be wrong. EMU is running latest firmware and using supplied N13 harness. It has actually started a couple of times, but for the most part...no go. Not sure if anyone has had similar issues with their installs? I haven't tested the TPS voltage coming out of the ECU yet.

i got the haltech platinum interceptor piggyback installed and setup by crd for $1350. got 180kwatw with full exhaust(headers, cats etc) ztube, pop charger, unorthodox pulleys, plenum spacer. ive since fitted a truel dual and will be installing test pipes so hopefully should see 190kw with a new tune. Going to get matt from hitman to do the tune.

I just wanted the unichip originally but i was told by almost every workshop to go for the haltech.

You were definitely wise to avoid the Unichip. Although, has anyone here considered the Uprev Osiris? Seems like a lot of turbo kits in the US use this particular set up as there's no wiring to mess about with and you're no longer at the mercy of the maps determined by Nissan.

I looked into the uprev osiris over a year ago..

I emailed Richard (i think), and it was all good till i said it was a for a jdm V35 350gt...he said without knowing for sure if the ecu's are exactly the same as in the g35's, i might've run into issues when i attempted to reflash with their software so i didn't go for it in the end. He did say if i pulled part numbers he could cross reference but i don't speak japanese lol.

I then looked into emanage ultimate and was really keen on it..in the end i didn't use the emanage because my mech was flooded with work and i only wanted him to tune it plus didn't really want to introduce extra electronics feeding vital signals to the ecu.. not common but i've heard of a few cases of the piggyback failing.

Settled for a custom ecu reflash in the end but still not entirely happy...lost alot of low end (remove damn factory aggressive settings causing knock) but gained a fair bit top end...now the motor is peaky - great for spirited driving but car is not as strong a i'd like just poddling around.

Currently looking into open ecu and associated cables for the V or something similar..then my V will be the test guinea cop at my mech. If all goes well, after mine, the garage will start doing V/Z ecu tuning officially.

How much did u pay for the harness and emu

Trent told me a while ago that he has already installed and tuned a V35 with an eManage Ultimate successfully.

I see. So in which case, other than the cross-referencing, one way to check would be to try the Osiris Tuner version and extract the existing maps first to see if the Osiris is really capable.

On the other hand, another desperation tactic (though very expensive) would be to replace the ECU with the US version provided they're pin compatible and then go to town on it. Either that or go for a MoTeC M800. :D

I'm starting to think I shouldn't have sold my M800 last year...

Yeah that thought crossed my mind before lol...buying a used g35 ecu on American ebay (cheap as chips), send it to uprev for fiddling then get sent to Aus for install...but the pinouts may be different plus would they know how to tune for the fuel we have here ..

Like you said, one way to try is to buy the pro tuner/diy version, plug everything in and see if it works but if it doesn't...you're out ~1300 ausd last i checked.

Btw, the factory ecu in our cars are quite adaptive/dynamic, constantly changing the ignition timing, something to consider if you go piggyback. Not saying can't be done, just there's more consideration vs a performance car from the 90's in general.

I checked the old email from Uprev. They need a ROM number, AKA the ecu part number. THey said it can't be located on the vehicle anywhere and it's obtained from the dealership parts department. "As long as they have the ROM for our vehicle patched, they should be able to help us"

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
