There are so many people on here running that this deserves it's own thread.

Brock probably thinks I am a wierd stalker for giving him the thumbs up at top ryde when I passed him on the way home.

speaking to Duncan he was very happy with how the car was running. Stu had missfire troubles and was not having much luck going faster (sounds to me like time for new tyres). Neil had a prick of a day with motor problems but at least all of the gears were in there this time unlike Oran Park. Looked like Brian was coming to terms with the new car and going OK

Was a good day at least there was no rain... Had a few dramas with the old R100 front brakes were not really working that well, rear brakes are coming in hotter than front. So need to find a better front brake pad. Also after driving the GTR around on the street getting it ready for super lap then jumping in my R100 on Sunday for the sprint really wish the Mazda had RB power. The R100 gets to 6500rpm in fifth gear on the straight and just sits there at least turn one was a quick lift and turn in and back on the power. LOL

Hope to make a few changes for the next round was a bit of pace all day...

Ha Ha,,,i walked out of the garage in the arvo just in time to see you doing a lovely pirouette Brian. It was worth an 8.5 in my book.

Big congrats has to go to Duncan,,,1st place is a job very well done indeed. :laugh:

Mr Handley,,, a big thank you for looking after my sadly sick car yesterday,,,not forgetting you ribbing the shit out of me all day as well. Your day will come tiger,,,at least I made you work more than usual. Yes it's off to the dyno next week.

The only positive I took away from yesterday was the fact that I had crap power which forced me to brake way later,,,throttle on way earlier and smooth out my driving style. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

11th was just rubbish,,,especially considering just how good the track was. The track condition was the best I have ever experienced there. Well done ARDC.

Looking at that list you posted Duncan and every other Nissan/Datsun entered,,,Imagine if we were all SAU NSW club members entered. We would be in the top 5. Sorry but I've been a loner for the club over the years and have jumped ship.

Issue after issue, firstly tow car flat battery, forgot dorian first run, then misfire in R33 for 2 runs, had 2 red flag runs (one lap only) finally on the second red flag after confrontations with starter and control we got a re-run then split oil hose on catch can, then melted hose off catch can - then did water hose under the back of the head (its easy to fix, just pull starter motor out, brake master cylinder etc, etc)

So if you are having a crappy day like this there is nothing like topping it off with no grip - enjoy :laugh:

Great thread Duncan! Thanks for mentioning me. I didn't think anyone could match up my nickname to my car and all! (nismoman = S13 Silvia) Well done, good detective work. :no:

I had a ball as usual and the track was in awesome condition. I love turn 1 evey time. I somehow managed my best time of the day in the first session, and then tried to beat it every session there after without success. I thought the ARDC ran a good event, I ran 5 sessions which was excellent considering the amount of entries.

This NSW Supersprint series is very popular isn't it? They said at the briefing they have a record number of entries for the series; 140+? More volunteers and officials coming back to support the series as well. Can only be a good thing for grassroots motorsport in NSW and Australia for that matter.

Congrats to both Duncan and Stuart. You guys are damn quick.

Better get round 3's paperwork in boy's,,,remember only 85 spots. If you don't have it yet which you should here it is.

Hi guys - bit quite here - so bring you up to date, as you might know, it took 2 weeks doing water hoses behind the head on R33, new belts and radiator hoses at same time. Took it for a run up the road and bugger me, busted top hose out of radiator tank. Got new radiator and bugger me, had a miss - two weeks later - new fuel pump, fuel lines, new ignitor, new spark plugs, following re-gap all good.

New brakes are great, just fitted the weirdest rear diffuser I have seen - hoping it works, also (look out Duncan) new carbon boot (doesnt fit real good) and wing (looks good)

New mower blade on front after EC (moment), if I can get the fuel tank back in the bloody thing will see you at Wakefield

So theres my goss, everybody else must be keeping it a secret (lol)

No news here, driving the thing to work everyday so can't go too wild.

Thinking about a race seat though.

Will be good to see the car with no problems at Wakefield Stuart...

After some poor times at Eastern Creek with the Mazda have changed front brake pads to DS2500, changed front springs from 400 pounds to 450, made a new rear sway bar now 13mm only, was 19mm but had it disconnected. Will see how it feels at Wakefield hope it makes it easier to drive as its quite a handful at the moment.

Oh and will have the Hoosier slicks on to now there bedded in.

Neil did you end up sorting out your car on the Dyno yet?

Nice to hear some updates. Was keeping things to myself, but OK I can't resist.

Latest gossip for the S13:

I had side exhaust pipe made up and fitted to the Silvia. It starts from the end of the front pipe where the cat should start, then makes an angle towards the passenger side of car and exits before the rear wheel pointing downwards so I don't burn the side of my car. Looks fat and mean!

I reckon I saved about 10kg in weight and hopefully gained a handful of kilowatts. I know for sure it cetainly sounds heaps different!

SR20 sounds more like a tractor than ever before now!

Looking forward to Wakefield, it's been over a year since I last drove around it.

How much time do you generally get on the track at the Super Sprints? As far as I can tell it's one of the cheaper options to get onto Eastern Creek

With sprints you will get about four or five sessions (one out lap and three hot laps each). So you will get between 10 and 20 laps for the day. An easier way is to get your L2S CAMS license (if you havent already) and turn up to an ARDC practice day. About $100 for the day and you will get a lot more track time vs a sprint.

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
