It's time 4 me to sell my current car (VS Calais S2) and upgrade to something with sum balls. My 1st car was a '94' R33, but i could not afford the insurance thats y i bought a holden. Now i'm getting more money at work and i was wondering what peoples opinions would be on whether to buy a skyline (r33) or S15????

I'm looking at spending a 20k-32k.

get the S15, you can make it go faster for cheaper, and if you blow it up its less to fix it. Its newer and looks sexier.

Then again for 32k you could probably get an '93 R33 GTR

s15...

wow - unanimous from a skyline board to buy an s15 - funny :D

I've noticed there are a shitload of 33 up in qLD, but a loss less S15 - in VIC its opposite.

You're probably more looking at between a s14 if you want a similar price though. I mean they're really not *that* different, just the s15 looks better.

With the insurance though you'll get bent over either way. I remember asking about insurance on an s15 a while ago - it was about the same as a 33, even for an oz spec.

At age 18 you don't have much chance of insurance at all on *any* form of turbo car.

yours is for sure :D

S15 is alot more than an R33

lol, my 33 looks pretty sweet actually, i will take some new pics for your pink excel driving self

Im just over it at the moment, ive been driving the BMW alot more, even saw the great gordo in it... lol

S15 is just a fresher car than a 33, add in a vertex kit and 18'' rims and thats a damn good looking car...

u might get a shit s15 for ya budget and a clean skyline

insurance is more xpensive for a s15 compared to my 95skyline mate..

S15 is a nice car and a newer car although u might not like the drive to go from a 6cyl to 4cyl.

i was also thinking of selling my skyline to get a s15 but then I was said fck it spend money on my current car....

I would say its a personal opinion drive both of them and see what ya like....

skyline if ya spend $28g u would get a clean skyline with some mods!

i will be looking at an s15 in the future.... :D

Definetly s15. Insurance should be lower because its Australian Delivered

this is wrong. Insurance is more because it is australian delivered. If you are going to get an s15 go the JDM s15. You get more power stock and the insurance is cheaper for the import as there are less of them on the road so less have been crashed. I got a quote for an aussie s15 spec r and a jdm spec r from the same company at the same time and the aussie spec r was going to cost 1k more to insure for the year....... :P

    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
