do my stock front guards for me hamish? they aren't on the car though makes it easier ?

yeh dont sell your wheels.. take em off put stockies on if you have them. camber is fine unless u got 300rwkw like some ppl.. otherwise camber is where its at the ladies love it

Hey guys I went to a few body shops today and they aren't happy about rolling the lip, they say the paint will split,

However one place (mainly deals with high end vehicles.. porsches etc) Say that on previous cars they have cut the lip off and treated them so they don't rust, what do you guys think?

Hamish how close were the 9.5" +25 to the inside front? (ie. the control arm)

I assume it was fine with 235/40/18s ?

I'm asking as I want to fit 9.5" +27 all round.

sorry to disagree with all the 'hella flush' fans but they are the wrong offset and too wide for your car. that's the problem. a set of 18X9 around offset +30 is more suitable (maybe even look at 18X8.5 for the front). with a 235 or 245 tyre they should fit inside the guards fine without having to modify the guards or run excessive amounts of camber. next time see if you can test fit any wheels or tyres you buy before leaving the shop.

The rims you have a suitable for 33 and 34 GTRs and pretty much fine on R32s too (though with the 265 tyres will probably rub the inner guards) so you could easily sell them to a 33 or 34 GTR owner and recoup most of your money.

concur.

im a big fan of good fitment, but you gotta be reasonable if you intend on driving your car.

a mate of mine is running my old 17x9+17 equips on his 33 gtst.

rears with a slight roll and a 235/45 tyre a spot on.

fronts however... well, needs a bit of camber, a skinnier tyre and roll.

camber arms are cheap too guard work is $50 a corner or can do it yourself if you gotta roller.. if not head gun and mallet wouldnt recommend it though if you care about your car haha

really? i guess youre basing that statement on personal experience?

absolutely nothing at all wrong with rolling guards with a heat gun and a mallet. ive rolled the guards of half a dozen cars (ls400's to skylines and stags) with nothing more than a $35 dollar heat gun, a soft touch hammer, a rubber mallet, and a 1 inch wooden dowel. works perfectly every time, no distortion nor denting to the guard itself, and no damage of any kind to the paint.

About time some sanity hit this thread. 9 inch plus 30 offset is as good as it gets for a 33 gtst, All these wankers asking you to tear up your guards so you can run push bike tyres on fat rims with 45 degree camber are just that.

Apart from the fact that cheesecutters on wide rims look like a fat kid with too much arse crack showing You will also double your tyre costs due to the premature camber wear on the inside And theres also the little matter of an insurance company bending you over and arse raping you hard if you come to grief.

This whole "mexican" (abo for shit) fitment idea is the ricer equivelent to the VL fluffly dice and rear louvre deal.

Do it right and you can still have it looking pron without the extra costs and hassles.

  • Nope 1

9" +30 front, but 9.5" plus 30 rear. You can always squeeze a lil more on the rear. I reckon if the 9.5" will clear the suspension points inside then you can run them at +30 on the front too. 235/40 on a 9.5" doesn't look all THAT stretched.

Yeah if your cars not lowered you can roll guards with a glass coke bottle, got that hint of an african fellow, tried it and it worked really well..

its proven clearly they can handle far more than a 9+30 if your not into fitment thats fine , but really the thread isnt asking for what he should get its asking how to make what he has work.

preach where relevant.

yes cos thats what i paid to have mine done, seen it done the other way and in many other ways to the mallet/heat gun you'll note i DIDNT recommend doing it yourself.

235/40 is fine on a 9" you can run much lower if you go camber arms, stretch tyres etc. billy has 9.5 +15 iirc on the front and it looks tough as. I'm going 9.5 + 12  whinge away old schoolers.

err... ima go ahead and highlight the bits where you were whinging noel:

No need to. If you wish to make yourself look like a flatcappin dickhead Its your god given right.

Knockyaself out.

I'll soon be rocking 9.5 +25 on the rear of my 33.

My 9 inch +35 enkeis fit alright, but man the whole car looks so much angrier with more offset goodness.

Lots of mods we do to our cars have a negative trade off in some other way/shape or form.

If we weren't willing to put up with it we would all be driving stock skylines, suspension, exhaust and all!

Im willing to put up with some camber wear for the looks, keeps me happy.

EDIT: Joey are your fronts 9.5's too? Or what offset and width are they?

but that's the thing. this guy might not be into it either. he said that in HIS OPINION he thinks his wheels sticking outside of the guards looks wrong and he's right. they are not the correct size and offset for his car. if he wanted wheels sticking out or heavy guard and alingment modifications then he would have said so. read what he said:

"Hi guys, I have just bought some 18", 9.5" Wide Alloy Wheels for my Skyline R33 GTST (facelift)

The offset was ET20.... this I think is where I went wrong, they look huge on the car which is fine, however they stick out by about 1 or 2 cm (wider than the arch), so no chance of lowering it any more.

I am guessing they are meant for a skyline GTR as these have wider bodies.??!?!

So now, I have a brand new set of deep dish 18's , with brand new 265/35/18 tyres... and I think I will take them off to go back to standard."

he's right, 18X9.5 +20 IS the common size for R33 and R34 GTRs, yes you can fit any wheels to any car if you're willing to cut and shut guards, or run tubs, or modify suspension, or change hubs, or change PCD or run spacers or whatever but that doesn't make them the correct or even the most common size for that car.

I see plenty of 33 GTSTs and I can tell you bugger all are running 18X9.5 +20. it may look cool but without other mods to make them fit they just will not clear and with the mods you end up with a compromise.

lol, know me to well noel ;)

EDIT: Joey are your fronts 9.5's too? Or what offset and width are they?

the SSR's were 9.5 +25 w 235/40/18 on the front

the new XD9's are 17x9.5+17 w 235/45/17

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
