yo

In about two month I will have 20k to spend on a car. I am almost solid on a skyline, but im not sure what would be the best deal i can get for that. Should I go for something stock and do a few mods myself? I was thinking the car might be less thrashed if i did that. Or should I get something with a stereo and some mods already? I want turbo and manual, pretty much my only requirements.

Got any advice or opinions or do you know someone selling in a month or two?

Kidd Are you saying that just cause its a modded skyline its not thrashed, but a modded v8 is definately thrashed? oh please, that could be the most ignorant thing ive seen on these forums, and there have been lots of ignorant things said here.

As for the question, either stock or modded condition can vary and be a bit of a lucky dip. Id probably get one with mods that are intelligently done and can be improved on. expensive stuff like coilovers and mech lsds are important or ecus, stuff like bovs and wheels can be bought later

where did u read that  what i meant 2 say is if u find a skyline with a lot of work already done like the ones for sale at c-red u get stuff tht will probably cost u half of what the car is worth if u try build it yourself. i wont comment on v8's again cos i dnt know much about them except tht they r good 4 burnouts/donuts

i say get one thats already modded up - get it rac checked if your buyin local to be safe.

or you could just give $300 to the homeless woman on the corner. She likes money for jam too, and she'll probably give you better service than RAC.

but both are useless at telling you what condition the car is in.....

thats how i read it too....you said v8=trashed but skylines not.

almost as dumb as your comment in another forum on this site that if you respray your car to a different colour people will think it has been in an accident when u sell it.

20 k will get u a good car- start looking now

a modded v8 may mean its been thrashed but a modded skyline means someone has spent a lot of money on it. just get it checked

if you go stock have fun spending $$$ on it

nah thats how i read it too

$20k V8 = trashed ???

$20k import = good??

Seen just as many of both that have been thrashed. Thats almost as stupid as your comment in another thread on this forum that if you respray your car to a different colour people are going to think it has been in an accident.

the purchase of a modified car can sometimes save you a few dollars, then again it can cost you alot more in the long run as well.

The majority of modified cars often have 'owner chosen' modifications which for the most part are poorly selected and the result is a vehicle which performs poorly for the money spent. In this case you need to go back and fix the previous flaws. For those vehicles that are well sorted you need to consider that with the extra power comes some extra breakage and wear. There is a point at which a very highly modifed car will become a most expensive little pet if you intend to actually drive it.

The last point to consider is this.

You will always be happy with the new found power....but You will never be satisfied.

This means you keep spending money like it's the become the new law of gravity.

Talk of 'saving money' therefore on performance cars is actually very silly (although not pointless). The left over money just finds it's way into another part of the car :)

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
