Bmw 318is Sport Auto ?

Please don't apart from lancers trying to look like evo's 318i bmw's have got to be the most wanna be car out there (without even doing anything to the car)

E36 318iS is a really nice cruiser. I thought you might get bored with it after a GT-T

If it is the E36, they can have a multitude of electrics issues > blowing light bulbs mainly. But they're a pretty stress free engine compared to what's in a 320i which is prone to oil leaks and worn Vanos. 325i coupe is better still - but just check for oil leaks, gear linkages and noisy Vanos (with a wooden dowel).

Thanks mate , the one I looked at was an ES 36 (I think) is this the same as a E36 ? it was the sport version and scuse the igoruns but what is a Vanos ? :P

I can always drive but some days just not a manual,

It's a waste.

Vanos is a camshaft control thingamy. Like Variable Valve Timing. It was introduced in '93

If it's there, it is located within the front lobe next to the crank pulley on the driver's side.

The E36 series was wonderfully ergonomically suited to the driver, with the dash layout in wrap around style. RX7s and Supras copied the concept. I don't think that the front seats had a lumbar support though - perhaps the optional sports seats did, but I could be wrong.

^^^ Referring to the M3 above - That 3.2l engine is a significant improvement over the '97 predecessor.

It has a Double Vanos system and thus greater torque due to having valve timing on both intake and exhaust cams.

Those seats (pictured) are the sports seats referred to above. They give greater support to your back.

The seat squab is extendable too, which is great for support under your legs.

Under mixed condition driving, the 3.2l M3 (well-tuned) only uses about 9.8l/100km - very impressive.

Yep - the 3.2 are sweet. They go like stink too (320hp IIRC). If you're going to get a SMG one, make sure it's been recently rebuilt (not just serviced). Most of them will need a rebuild at this point in their life, and that is mega expensive. that's the reason I'd buy a manual if I ever were to get one.

They sell for as little as $21k for a 97 model, too, even with relatively few km (under 200k)

Interestingly, when a friend was considering a car to replace his R32 GTR about 5 years ago, he looked at an E36 M3 and commented at how fragile it felt compared to the GTR. He later went on to buy an M5 (E34).

Oh, I think that the 3.2 came out late 96. Certainly all the 97 models have it, and I'm pretty sure I've seen several 96 models with the 3.2 as well.

sorry to hear about this mate :D .

bmw is the way to go, depends on your budget also as audi's are very comfortable and have great seats too. ive been in a e46 m3 and can say those seats are great and have good power :D i was close to getting one but went with the r34 gtr.

No bigee just makes me cranky as all get out ,which is scarey cause I've always been a cranky shit to start with.

I'm not looking at the M3's realy rather at the , I think , ES36 which is 318iS 4 potter 1996cc (or roundabouts) donk 2 door, only a littley realy, the RRP on a 99 was about $58k and the yard price now seems to be around $15500 and good ole Redbook putting them at $11.600 private and as low as $6800 wholesale.

I am hoping someone on here may have one and want to do a deal , unlikely, but you never know. :)

Redbook hates the germans. Don't as me why, but it does and always always undervalues them. GL car hunting :D

Just as a thought is the 318iS a timing belt or timing chain don't worry it's just the tensioners jobby.

Anyone know what the Beemer website is called I've googled a bit and keep ending up in the US . ?

i had a e36 318is, but i thought they were all manual? Anyway they are over priced for parts, very unreliable now as most are not looked after, and they have no guts. They do look decent if it's been well kept. They are good till things start to break (and by god they do break)

V35 skylines would be what the doc recommends :P

350GT Premium tiptronic auto.

The driver's seat has many electric adjustments so you can have it just the way you like.

Car isn't overly low so you can get in and out quite easy.

Comfy car with lots of performance.

More gutsy than a 318is, newer and roughly the same price and parts are reasonable.

      What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.

      Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.

      looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
