You can try and fit a valve body from the states and fill it with nissan fluid, It may last a bit longer and can be done with the box in the car, otherwise you will need to replace the clutch packs also, which means a full remove and rebuild. You are looking at around $3500 for that but I warn you, dont get them to high stall the converter or the trans ecu will have issues with locking it up. (as it ramps the voltage to the lockup clutch too slowly)

Kewish Automotive did mine, they have worked on similar boxes before but mine was their first M35 RE5. Shifts instantly and firmly at heavy throttle and softly at light throttle although there is still ecu lag when shifting.

Thanks for the reply. We just tried putting the nissan fluid in the box. No luck there it still slips.

Looks like rebuild time. So leave the stall converter stock is your advice.

I think i will limp it around for a few weeks

I looking into a rebuild about 1 year ago. I was going to use Dominello's in Sydney.

If you are planning on building the motor up and wanting to run a standalone ECU can I suggest you looking into a Manual Valve Body as well. That way you should be able to have complete control of the gearbox without input from the motor ECU.

No keeping it simple just rebuild upgrade the clutch packs. Not planning on rebuilding engine.

I can only chase.....personally.....if it doesn't happen VERY F#$KING soon I think I will need to cut and run!!!!!!....I'm sick of having lag till 4,500rpm and a 6,000rpm rev limit because of misfires!

this is the only other real option!!!!!!

I got a little bit of mapping stuff if you go down the fcon route and cant find someone to map it for you :) or want someone different to do it.

Anyone dealt with wholesale automatic transmissions in melbourne .

The tranny is a RE5R05A is it compatable with the RE5R05A's out of the other nissans. ie patrol, navara ect

Will a change over unit bolt straight on

Yeh i just spoke to wholesale auto transmissions they said it is a rare transmission and they dont have any rebuilt stock. Lol wish full thinking.

I found a second hand one for $1250 That will get me out of trouble for a few months and give me time to rebuild my one

Transmission let go today anyone know anybody with one.

My mechanic said it will take 3 weeks to rebuild.

Ouch. Mine took a month.

You could get on to the wreckers that bought the white M35, they might sell you a box cheap for 5k

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
