220 to replace fuel filter!?!?! mate that's heaps, definitely do it yourself...

the filter itself is about $30-35, all you need to do is undo the hose from each end of it and pop the new one in. very easy to do, can get a bit fiddly if your old hoses are hard to pull off but it's not that bad.

good luck

Cheers guy, it is just that easy. thanks heaps for the comment and i wiill give it a try tomorrow. yer i think that guy was try to rip me off with that price, will let you know if i have done it. much appreciate for the help!

turn the car on so its idling, then pull the fuse on the fuel pump and the engine will stall

that way, you will have less fuel pressure in that line and less splirting out everywhere :)

Workshop should only charge you 30 mins labour plus the filter. So all up should be about $60 to get it done.

My missus just paid $250 for an aftermarket WRX turbo intake pipe, because her stock one had rips and holes etc.

I wz lyk siiiigh, y dnt u jst get a gud stock one frm a wrekr 4 lyk $30 an ill install 4 u babe?

Stupid mechanics at her work think they know best... pfft. Then again they are installing it for her no charge. Then again they've had her car for a week now.

What I'm trying to say dude, is that you should get your boyfriend to change your fuel filter for you

a good answer, this you should ask Midas or any other garage that don't fix Japanese car, they are the best charging the rip price.

if you do end up paying someone to do this for you may i suggest you atleast ask them to show you whats required to do it.

it really is that easy, you would only need to be shown once and when you see how its done i can guarantee you will never pay for it again.

You're still going to pay someone?

This is depressing.

I remember a while ago, a guy on here had a window smashed, payed like $80 for the glass, and another $50 to fit it? something like that ... literally, 5 mins, in and out, tops...dunno how the f**k people justify spendings like that..

that could have been me... had the rear screen smashed with a brick..

150 dollars second hand rear windscreen... which i removed from the car it came out of.

then i installed it into my car.

If you still havent changed the filter.. go boil a kettle... make a coffee.. then pour the rest of the hot water on the hoses that connect to the filter. the rubber will expand and the hose will come straight off

cheers anway man, I think I would give it a try this coming week. It seems so easy for you guys lol I wouldn't mind if I give it a try. I hope I won't stuffed it up lol. Will let you guys know

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
