this weekend vicroads vehicles have been given the power to hand out infringements as if they were police officers.

V8 Supercar driver and reigning Bathurst champion Will Davison will join Victoria Police, the TAC and VicRoads today for the launch of an aggressive road policing operation in time for the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

Starting tomorrow, Victoria Police will run Operation Aegis VIII, which will see police cars and motorbikes, bicycles and foot patrols smother the state's roads in an attempt to reduce road trauma

Aegis, which runs over the busiest times on our roads, is not always rolled out on long weekends but given the rising road toll and some worrying trends this year, Victoria Police decided to take the all-hands-on-deck approach.

Superintendent Neville Taylor said police would not accept any excuses from dangerous drivers and make no apologies for their tough stance.

"We will not accept any excuse for dangerous driving, speeding or drink-driving," Supt Taylor said.

The road toll is 16 up on this time last year with 143 deaths and despite the serious injury collision rate decreasing, police are doing all they can to stop the senseless deaths.

"We are doing all we can, we just want the community to do all they can to enjoy their weekend safely.

"Please, slow down, wear your seatbelts, have a break if you're tired and in the ever-changing weather conditions, take extra care."

Supt Taylor particularly encouraged motorists heading the Alpine region to make sure they are appropriately prepared for the conditions.

He said police would be specifically enforcing in the state's north east as part of Operation Snow Bunny.

Last year there were five fatalities during the snow season, all people who were going to or leaving Mount Buller.

"The roads are slippery and wet and unlike the driving conditions here in the city.

"So make sure your vehicles are checked and safe before you head for the snow."

Growing tired of hearing news of tragedy after tragedy on the roads, Mr Davison has teamed up with Victoria Police to offer his support in sending the safety message.

"I drive competitively all the time, but that's in a protected, track environment and the dangers on the track aren't nearly as deadly as they are on the highways and freeways," Mr Davison said.

Key road safety partners the TAC and VicRoads are again supporting this weekend's operation.

The TAC is funding targeted police operations in high-risk areas, and Vic Roads are supplying nine Transport Safety Service cars to add to the police fleet involved in highway patrols.

"The VicRoads' vehicles primary focus will be on enforcing freight regulations, however we believe the visibility of the cars on the roads will discourage dangerous and irresponsible driving behaviour," Supt Taylor said.

Operation Aegis VIII officially kicks off at 12.01am Friday and will finish on Monday night.

from here

i dont care how they sugarcoat it.... you know its gonna be bad (as always) for import drivers

Motorbike ftw this weekend. I'm 39 (circa) times more likely to be injured on that thing and it'll be because of this little operation making me not want to drive my car. Enjoy the statistics reversal you twits.

I'm, sorry but there is NO WAY in hell I will EVER pull over for a Vic roads car (the ones with the purple lights that usually pull trucks over). I will only ever stop for red and blues. They can follow me to the police station if they want but I aint stopping till I get there :P

Hell even teh cops tell you if you're not sure if it's a real cop to keep driving to the next station.

Lol sorry to tell you mate, i had this exact view until i ASKED a COP that pulled me over if i need to pull over for vic roads cars. His response was "yes you do, they have the same power to pull you over and inspect your vehicle as we do"

And if you do not stop for them you can be fined for failing to stop when intructed and even if you say you did not know "ignorance is not an excuse" for breaking a law

Yeah ive always said to people that you need to pull over.... its just that Vicroads generally target trucks etc

but they will go after cars on the odd occasion, such as this weekend ;)

Normally the VicRoads cars are there to inspect safe/unsafe towing/trucking loads. They said they are lending these cars to VicPol for the weekend so they have an increased fleet. I haven't read the full article but maybe they'll be putting red and blue lights on them.

well thats fair enough, but i dont think you'd get into further trouble if you kept going to a copshop.

LOL I wonder what would happen if you tried to break into a prison? You'd probably go to court and receive community service...

I wouldn't be running from the people who can suspend/cancel my registration ;)

take it easy this weekend guys and girls

    • I don't know if you can disassemble the thing and put it backwards for different ramp rates. They're both "2 ways" or both "1.5 ways" because well, 2 ways and 1.5 ways are the same 'thing' I do not know for sure, but I believe the 38420-RSS15-B5 is the 1 way, and 38420-RSS20-B5 is the two way. In other words, I predict Nissan considers this: to be a 1.5 way. No idea what actually happens when it arrives/you disassemble it. It would be an excellent question to ask Nismo directly! I somehow doubt you will get an answer though, I feel you would be the first person to document what you encounter when you open the box and the internet would be grateful.
    • I'm going to slap an old nismo logo sticker on my spare one and sell it to the land of the free for a thousand bucks
    • lol, probably should have read further!
    • Well - they have arrived.  And they are easy on the eye to put it mildly... These only have three bolts - but for a start there is a key that fits with vacuum like precision..  And as you can see by my ruler, the interface is large..   I listened to a podcast on HP Academy about Dan (KiwiCNC) and I'm more than comfortable he knows what he is doing. R35 Bearing assembly should arrive later today so can mock that up for a look. Can't wait to get these on and get some brake pressure logging too. IMG_3860.MP4
    • I would be very confident that they are the same parts (the 2 different SKUs). It seems very clear that you can drop the cam in the 2-way opening, or in the other opening. If you arrange it in the other opening in the same way that you see any other 1-way diff, ie, with the flat of the cam up against the 1° side of the opening, then it would work as a 1-way. It can only spread the ramps when driving forwards - cannot spread the ramps on overrun. It would then appear obvious that if you put the cam into the opening "backwards", that you would get the angled flats of the cam working onto the "points" of the 1° side of the opening, which would give you ramp spread in both loading directions. I do wonder if the forward direction of the 1.5-way config is equivalent to the forward direction of the 2-way, seeing as the cams are flipped and the angled surfaces on those would need to be the same on each side - AND - clearly when installed in either the 2-way or 1-1ay configuration they are not intended to work exactly the same (the ramp angles on the 2-way are 10° different between forward and backward, and the ramp doesn't exist in the 1-way config). 'twere me, I think I would rather actually have a set of rings that offered the 2-way with two different sets of ramp angles, say the 55/45 of the existing design and maybe a 45/37.5 combo for a less aggressive effect), AND another set of rings with a dedicated 1.5-way opening and a dedicated 1-way opening. The 1.5-way opening would actually have the steeper angle on the overdrive side that causes it to be less pushy than the forward drive angle, like you see in many other diffs. But really - if this Nismo thing is thought out properly and all those surfaces work on each other the way that they need to, who am I to argue?
