Can anyone tell me what power levels a single 044 pump can handle. Just after some reliable info and it seems as though you guys are the ones that can help me.

Im in the process of building a fuel system for my rb26. Current setup is single in tank 044. Fuel is 98RON only.

Im using dash 5's with the usual fruit, but boost is only standard at the moment on 13.5psi making 322rwkw

Im about to wind the boost up next to around 20-22 psi if theres no detonation.

My questions are:

Will my current intank 044 be ok to use as the lift pump?

Will an additional single 044 mounted externaly support 380-400rwkw (If thats what i should expect the car to make with 20-22psi?)

Will a 2 litre surge tank be ok?

What size fuel lines, any additional information i should know?

Sorry to steal this thread so to speak but i have alot of the same questions as stated here and cant find the answers by searching.

Any info is much appreciated

Mate people use a simple Tomei/Nismo intank pump for 380rwkw circuit cars with -5's, semi slicks and so on... All in the factory fuel tank, factory fuel lines, factory FPR and so on.

None of them have a problem, and there are countless cars achieving this... Don't try to reinvent the wheel with this dual pump/surge tank business - you won't need it.

Fair enough mate but my car is a drift car and this is what my tuner/engine builder recommends I do.

Im not doubting you know what your talking about, but I have just spent close to 50 grand on this whole engine conversion, parts and tuning.

The fact that I now want to wind up the boost brings me to the point where to be safe i have to fit external pumps and surge tank. This is not an area i know alot about but i do know I really dont want to bin an engine due to fuel surge and leaning out.

Im not trying to reinvent the wheel, but I'am inclined to follow my tuners advise who has had over 30 years experience in the industry.

Ok so i spoke to my tuner and he said to run 2 external 044 pumps with the surge tank and use a carter 15psi low pressure pump as my lift pump.

Can you tell me how to plumb and wire the two pumps up, and also in regards to filters and one way valves, and will a 2 litre surge tank be big enough?

Also wheres the best place to purchase the carter lift pump and the assosiated filters and one way valves to complete the setup?

A 15 psi carter pump is right on the money... it's a better choise than a high pressure efi pump, but will be a little more difficult to fitt, that's why I suggested a bosch pump... with a bosch pump, you can re-use the modified fuel pump cradle from the in tank 044...

2lt should be fine, just make shure it's relativly skinny and tall- with the right size threaded fittings.

Have a search around the forum, i'm shure there are plenty of examples for plumbing and wiring... if not pm me and I'll sketch somthing up for you.

EFI hardware will have everything you need... Good prices and solid advice.

At the end of the day you have to trust in what your tuner/builder tells you... If he says two pumps and a surge tank, then thats what you invest in.

Personally I would ask your tuner if one larger pump will suffice with a surge tank... I don't think he would have an issue with that, as long as the one pump is rated the same as two 044's... Again, this is just my preffrence (I've given my reasons in this thread allready). See what he says. It also comes down to cost too... two 044's will probably be cheaper.

Cheers

My Car will surge with anything under a quarter of a tank in it, even in a straight line.... Does this mean it has been mounted incorrectly (the pump) ?

Perhaps.

Although i wouldn't be running around with a 1/4 empty tank @ the track :)

One assumes you fill it up, just like the oil & water

^ Ye surge tank fair enough - im still not concinved as to the need for a twin setup when single pumps have been proven to flow the required amounts time over.

My tuner suggested I hook the second externall 044 up so it will only come on when I flick the power switch for the mac valve to turn it onto high boost.

He said standard fuel lines will be fine also.

That way the second pump is not running flat out all the time heating up the fuel.

So what bosch in tank pump would be easier to fit that is low pressure do you think?

Perhaps.

Sorry, I didnt mean the track, this happens on the street, e.g. 3rd gear flatten throttle revs climb, just starts to feel like your about to get whiplash then BAM and the dirt is gone :) surge and going nowhere.

i installed a 044 in my tank and can boot it with less than 1/4 and not get any surge, get them to check that the pump is mounted as low as possible in the tank. does it have issues driving around normally with low fuel? also keep in mind some fuel guages are a bit dodgy in the way they read the fuel level, 1/4 on one isnt always the same on another.

Yeah, i can always tell if its down at the lower levels that its about to surge given the type of corner im about to take, not usually at slower speeds though.

It's a good way to do it... The stock lines are totally fine for your power levels and 98 with twin pumps.

There are no low pressure/high volume bosch pumps in the same frame I can think of... The next best thing will be a lower rated bosch pump in the same frame size. Or just retro fitt the carter pump.

My setup. Nothing special :)

wasnt finished in the pic but thats the only pic I have..

Nice one Rob, what filters are they?

After all that, I am thinking of modifying the stock fuel tank to suit, probably making the bottom of it flat too so I can add a diffusor.

If it's a GTR tank, they're plastic... would be a little difficult. otherwise check this out:

Awsome!

Ahhh, that aeromotive set up idea is awesome x2!

I was thinking maybe an alu fab or fibreglass.. pbly leaning more towards alu though.

    • I am getting the same issue. Did you resolve it? I just got it after installing my new super coppermix and literally the same issue, new fork, new 18mm carrier, release bearing that came with the kit and replicated the exact same sound.
    • If you like - I have the STL files so I can email em. There's a couple of gotchas (i.e the holes are not threaded so you might need/will need) to utilize some M3 melt-in threads for some of the points. However if you want to be super accurate, and are willing to remove your calipers and your SHOCKS it's a really good tool. You also might need to scale the part that measures the tyre width a bit wider. It defaults to a 7.5in tyre and I mean who is running that. Luckily with the magic of CAD this is very easy to rescale.
    • jeebus. glad you weren't under it while performing the stunt. Also thanks for the link to the wheel measurer, exactly what I needed
    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. I also bought this and had it printed: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1576422240/wheel-and-tire-fitment-tool-universal?ref=shop_home_feat_1&dd=1&logging_key=08f604d9fa4cc383550ba985e6ac85cd5cac7fbb%3A1576422240 Now, if I was smart I would have taken my brake calipers off to actually use this correctly but it was evident enough to me that in the region where the caliper was... there was nothing to hit suspension/guard/arm wise. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.
