If using it as a daily, then yes, you can get a standard GT-R and do it up; over and above the mods that come with it. Approx $44K.

If buying a VS II Nur, you can still mod, but get an extra car as your daily.

That's MHO :(

Nick, it is by coincidence that your started this thread as I was thinking tha same thing!

I am intending to get a BNR34 VERY soon and was also curious as to the daily drivability.

Well i for one can definately tell you that the r34 is a much better drive than the 32 for the street, it feels better is quieter, nicer interior and exterior.

The driving experience is better certainly due to being newer and improved, as with the interior and exterior.

Also you can get a reliable 270rwkw with stock turbos :)

Hey just thought id put in my impressions of owning an r34 gtr. Basically, i had to buy another car as it aint a great daily driver. Being too paranoid, i wont park it anywhere and i must know the route im driving as to avoid bumps/dips etc in fear of scratching the lip + parking is a little difficult cos the turning circle aint the best.

the car burns alot of fuel too, especially if tuned

Personally i cant see over the bonnet as the buckets sit quite low; im not exactly short @ 5'8" lolz

Again, this is only my opinion from owning one for 2 or so years and only travelled 6000kms (currently at 29,xxxkms)

IMO Nick...

The R34 GTR is newer then the R32 GTR so it's going to be refined in many ways.

Having driven both, stock for stock, they are both good cars to drive but improvements would have been done with the R34 GTR though out the years, making it a 'smoother' car to drive.

Unless you can find a R32 GTR in mint condition and have kept up the service and maintenance to match a R34 GTR, there is no way you can compare the both.

Refinements which add to a better drive for the R34 GTR is to do with the engine with slight tweaks here and there.

Aero dynamics, front and rear defuses help the R34 GTR travel smoother.

Larger Brembo brakes (compared to the R32 GTR Nissan brakes) will help the car stop quicker.

Newer suspension on the R34 GTR = Smoother ride.

6 Speed Getrag gearbox ha a smoother gear change (I think so but not by much)

All adds up.

The R32 GTR has this 'raw' power feeling, you can feel the car where as the R34 GTR is so smooth it feels a lot more subtle yet the power is still there.

ok some good points: the gearbox is nice to drive but compared to say a ford fiesta, you can tell its a strong mechanical change.

the car still makes a few squeeks here and there from the dash plastics, also, the car does not have alot of sound deadening so you can hear the road/tyres which i guess is paramount in a sport/track car.

In conclusion, im glad i have my gtr but as a daily driver, i wouldnt recommend one unless you have another car. A gtr is one of the best cars you can own, they make you feel so special when you drive it once a week/month etc

ahhh 34, yes you can.

Just because the turbos are newer does in no way mean that they are less prone to failure, and in turn then taking your motor with it.

It is simply bot worth the risk to push factory GTR turbo's to such limits.

GTRGeoff has a low KM set of R34 GTR turbos fail - taking his motor with it. Prime example of why one should not take such a chance.

258kw awkw to 270rwkw is near enough to the same to mate and if you read my post i said my power is made at 1 bar, dont need to go back and search any posts and read someones experience when i have the car in question and have done it myself

I can give you a dyno chart reading 550.1 rwkw for a factory car if you want?

Well given the NUR still has the inherrant issues of oil control etc, and the V-II's are expensive as (and not much different over a normal "GTR")

You could look to perhaps just a R34 GTR, you'd be looking around the 45-50k marker for a pretty clean example.

Perhaps look at getting one imported as a side thought?

Why import? There seem to be plenty around that could fit the bill? Importing would be a hassle, and time consuming no? Is it chePer to import? Better chance of getting 'the' car you want?

    • Must have been an absolute nightmare to drive when the power steer was out, the rack ratio/wheel size/caster is all set up for power assistance
    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA

There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way.
