The R34 N/A has the shift computer built into a seperate ECU in the drivers side of the car, this alone controls the gearbox, not the main ECU.

If you've put in an auto GTT ECU, it has the shift computer internal, so both shift ECU's will be sending signals to the box (confusing the fark out of it)

If you just put in the manual GTT ECU, it should all work just fine as it won't be getting the second lot of interfering signals. I ran a manual GTT ECU in my NA+t and the gearbox worked just fine.

*Slightly off topic*

Is the wiring regarding this setup "plug and play"? As in no messing around with the connectors.

Surely a manual conversion would be the simplest and only guaranteed way to get it running without shelling loads trying 50 different things, plus everyone wants a manual don't they?

666 Dan is spot on. The RB25DE version has a seperate computer for the auto on the right of the steering wheel. The automatic transmission is exactly the same so no point in changing it. The other difference is I believe that the DET has traction control and the DE does not so that could be a problem.

I have suggested an alternative for you. If that is no go as a last resort I would trailer the car to MV autos if there is no auto shop in your town who wants to sort it for you!!

This is going to be the ultimate plan. Currently workshops in Vic are wondering whether or not NISTune can be applied to the NA ECU and keep the wiring like that. I'm not optimistic, but given the fact MV are out of the country for a month, I guess I'll wait and see how that goes as I can't get it shipped there anyway. I did suggest the "Just wire it up and pretend it's a GTT gearbox and use the GTT Gearbox, GTT ECU, GTT Wiring and it should be OK" but coming from Mr Laymans terms, I don't really think anyone wants to listen to me, and tbh when you have an uninitiated customer telling experienced mechanics what to do, I guess its understandable. If they get it working their way, I quite frankly don't give two shits how. :D

I do agree, but I was told this should work, and got a shift kit installed, paid for, and had the trans shipped to and back to a different state under that impression that it'd work fine. I just don't feel like dropping 3-4K on a manual conversion when I really shouldn't need to from a customer point of view. I've bought another car in the interim as a daily to replace this daily (lol) so I'm not entirely crippled.

I guess word of warning if you want to do something like this in Victoria, is don't unless you can do it yourself. :D

Unfortunately it can't, the ECU is a different type of (basic) board with no expansion capability.

Guess I'll wait and hear them say that, though I did say it probably wont work.. I guess this car is either going to be sent interstate or have someone from interstate come and look at it, coming down this way anytime soon Dan? :P

Hey man, did you manage to get this sorted? I need some help as I’ve done a turbo conversation on a rb25de neo ..

the car is a automatic and I bought a impul gtt ecu for a automatic r34 and the car is in limp mode, I’m using the stock n/a loom ..

i haven’t got the boost sensor or anything like that either .. I’ve tried to pm you but for some reason it doesn’t let me haha

is this ecu for use with the 25de loom with a turbo conversion, or just an automatic Gtt 25det ? If it's the latter your still in the same situation as your auto is wired and controlled from the separate auto module. An auto turbo ecu is not going to sort you out unless it communicates with the stock auto module.

Your really fishing on this one. STICK TO ONE THREAD FOR YOUR PROBLEM, as the same people will be telling you the same thing, no matter how many different threads you start. Gtsboy and Rusty nuts have already told you that using your Na loom with an auto turbo ecu ain't gonna magically fix anything.

I understand its a shit situation but your gonna have to go somewhere that has some experience with conversions like this.

@666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.

I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.

Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?

Cheers man

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
