One of the guys on the site I'm working on has a soarer that he rekons is making 230kw at the rears and hes telling me today that he'd eat my gtr for lunch. Obviously in a straight line he'd win but i rekon the gtr would make up for the power difference through the bends and maybe off the line too.

As I tend not to go round racing peole on the street and other retarded things like that this argument will stay hypothetical for the moment hence I'm looking for your opinions. After talking to a couple people and reading round on the webz, the concensis was that around the 170-180awkw mark seemed right for my gtr. My cars only engine mods atm are a 3" front pipe and cat back with decat pipe and some apexi pods.

Also he said "33s I thrash but 34s get me" which got me like WTF?!

Auto soarer with that power would give a stockish gtr a run down the quarter, soarer is a bit heavier than the GTR and they put the power down quite well.

it would be close I'd rekon

That's what I said to him.

What about through the hills? I wouldve thoughtje advantages of having a lighter, manual car would overcome the power difference.

People usually tend to exaggerate(intentionally/unintentionally) about their power figures in a conversation with a superior make.

I would first want to find out exactly how much power he is making. If the Dyno installed in his drivers seat is telling him 230rwkw, then its most likely false.

Stick to the facts, stock R33 GTR will do 0-100 in under 5 flat, and 1/4 mile in under 13s. Soarer - 0-100 in about 6?? 1/4 mile in 15ish?

The V8 soarer is a boat. the TT soarer is quickish, but the turbos are extremely small(smaller then the starlets ct27??). If he has the TT version and was making 230rwkw, It would be quick to say 0-80ish, after that, the GTR's long gearing, revs, torque, and power delivery would walk all over it.

There are stock turbo 1jz in full weight soarers running cosistant mid 11s on the quarter, they arnt slow once the're tweaked a little.

Throw in an ecu and you will find not a lot of cars can beat you at the lights (due to the GTR's AWD system) and even rolling start they might not be able to beat you because there's a limit to their high end power.

However, a stock untuned GTR will take a while to come on boost and until then, you're just another straight six 2.6L coupe. I've got no doubt on track or bend you'll beat your mate with the soarer but its another story if you're dragging him on stop or rolling start. Make use of your AWD and launch it hard but I wouldnt recommend doing a 7k launch on the street.

At the end of the day, same power same skill, gtr will beat the soarer and you'll find that they'll need significantly more power to be able to outrun you.

ps: I know a TT 350z with 293rwkw and that thing is VERY fast. I even know I can outrun him with a launch and I'm only on 255awkw.

Does it matter?

But you can tell he's talking shit about himself.. 33GTR & 34GTr both stock would be roughly the same times.. If he can munch 33 GTR then he can munch 34GTR also.. He's just talking out his arse to look like a man..

Well not really but when he called himself "the drift king" and offered to show me how to slide my car that got to me a little. But as I said I'm not that childish.

I don't know that comment about the 34s threw me a little and later when I asked him if he'd thought about putting a manual it he said "if I had a manual Id have wrapped it round a stoby"

Owned a 1j Auto Soarer a while back with catback, fmic, 12psi made 183rwkw. Did a high 13 1/4 down the track. Straight line they were pretty good but around corners they're like a boat. With a fuel controller ie safc, dump and front pipes and 15-16psi gets you 220-230rwkw!!! And numerous ones have run 12.6. so pretty good in a straight line. U need to stall them up to get a good launch.

Got a 33GTR now with minor bolt ons and goes much better than my Soarer in all facets including handing and off the line and straight line speed. As for your mods Pistol Pete, Catback, front pipes, 14psi nets ~ 205+AWKW. HPI did a write up a while back and they reckon you can get low 12s with a stockish GTR if you launch hard with a twin plate. Never tried though cos im mechanically sympathetic to my gearbox .

At that point I would have walked away and NEVER spoken to him again.

I got one of them friends. He's always got something awesome on order from Japan, and it's always on backorder, and it always goes missing in the transit, and he never chases them up.

He's still driving his Sigma years later. Good thing too, terrible driver..

Lol I had a mate like that. Once made up he bought an awesome big HP R32 GTR. He then said it rocked up by truck, he found something wrong with it, sent it back and got a full refund, all within a matter of 24 hours without any one seeing it :ninja:

yeah i had a mate with a similar story. bought a turbo supra, 600hp, etc. then a few weeks later when i told him i'd like to come to have a look he said his old man had made him sell it. another mate asked his old man and he simply said "what's a supra?" LOL

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
