Penalties for excessive speeding

If you are caught travelling at 45 km/h or more above the speed limit, you will incur the following penalties:

* automatic loss of licence for six months

* six demerit points

* expiation fee.

Your licence will usually be suspended if you are detected going over the speed limit by 25 km/h or more.

Your vehicle may be immobilised or impounded if you are travelling 45 km/h or more over the speed limit, or at more than 145 km/h.

The police may give you a warning if you are doing less than 10 km/h over the speed limit. See ‘Police action’ in ‘Possible outcomes for traffic offences’ (link below).

All excessive speed offences attract demerit points. See ‘Demerit points’ (link below).

Can I stop my licence from being suspended?

Your licence can be saved if the magistrate believes you were driving less than 25 km/h over the speed limit, at a speed less than 130 km/h. Otherwise the magistrate has no choice and must suspend your licence.

If your licence is suspended, the minimum suspension period depends on how much over the speed limit you were driving:

* 25 to less than 35 km/h over the speed limit – one month

* 35 to less than 45 km/h over the speed limit – six months

* 45 km/h or more over the speed limit – 12 months

I think thats right, plus the additional 12-15 months added onto the probationary license thanks to the "graduated licensing system", which punishes getting fines and rewards a clean driving record.

Thats retarded. According to the Vic police website:

"Excessive speed is defined as driving 25 kilometres an hour or more above the speed limit, or at 130 kilometres an hour or more (if the speed limit is 110 kilometres per hour)."

So I can drive at 64km/h an hour in 40km/h school zone and keep my license and just get a fine, yet if I do 130km/h in a 110km/h zone on the drive from Sydney to Melbourne I lose my license.

Once again the burecrats have screwed up royal.

Just for the record I know you dont make the rules Graeme and your in just as crappy position as the rest of us, if not worse as you have to enforce these stupid laws and then cop the backlash from the public.

I guess the only rationale with that rule is that 130 km/h is deemed too fast according to the rule makers and you lose your license. I know this rule from personal experience, I lost my license for going 131 in 110 zone and at the time in all other speed zones you had to be 30km/h or more over the limit to lose it. Imagine how I felt.

I was lucky to get accepted into force with that. I know now days you can't get in for at least 5 years after having license suspended. At the time I spoke to a s/sgt that I was friends with and he didn't even know that rule.

Was just thinking about that...I thought it was a clean record though? I.e. no points or suspensions. A mate of mine who was in the academy said he had to have an absolutely clean record in order to get accepted in and it was bloody hard to keep it that way lol.

I've heard that Drink Driving prior means you will most likely never get in. License suspension may be a 5-10 year wait with a clean record after that. I have also heard of people getting knocked back as had too many demerit points (only more than 6) and had to wait until demerit points reset. I only here these as I try to assist recruit/applicants on certain forums.

Then again I know one member who has been lodged for drunk twice and had about 30+ speeding fines in 10 years and he got in (bloody motorcycle rider) lol. Now he wants to go to TMU and fines everyone for everything.

LOL is that a serious question? Do you not see this the same way as everyone else?

You were doing 40km over the speed limit and had your liscence for 4 weeks...... have fun trying :nyaanyaa:

If you require your liscence for work, start preparing the documentation to get an exemption for work purposes ONLY! with that sort of speed you may also be rejected, although normally they can be pretty generous

but 130 and losing licence? that's bullshit man, 130 isn't even all that fast.

im pretty sure i will us up all my point because i got done again last night which is utter bullshit. it was a red light speed cam, i couldnt stop in time because it was wet, i was more than half way and i got flashed, mind you it was still amber when i went over the line. Im contesting this one for sure.

Im just the luckiest guy out huh.

You do realise that u need to enter and LEAVE the intersection before you get fined! hence u always get 2 flashes

      Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!

      To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules

      So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket

      As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.

      I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
