At the end of the day there both good options it just depends how much you want to spend? Keep in mind if you have any R32 rb20det you will need an ap engineering power fc and they are more rare and also more expensive. I have ran both and rate them both highly, the main upside is with the power fc you can monitor what your car is doing via the hand controller.

I had a bit of a read last night about the knock control issue that was brought up above.

The knock control is used only in a thin band of load/RPM but it is selectable. By clicking on a load cell you can tell the ECU whether you want to have knock feedback in that part of the map or not.

Generally tuners turn it on through before and after peak torque as this is when you are encountering max VE (Volumetric Efficiency) and therefore you are getting the best cylinder filling and the highest cylinder pressures. So this band is where you will encounter knock. The knock feedback is turned off higher in the rev range to do the background noise being too great and giving false knocks, so you don't want knock control in this region anyway.

If running an RB25 you also need an external vct controller as the rb20 ecu will not do it.

A couple of years a go there was talk of re-tuning 33 ecus with a write-once chip, or having them permanently re-tunable via an emulator daughter board, but all talk on this seems to have gone quiet?

In stupid terms;

A tuner can set at what RPM your knock control is active. So you could set it at say 5,500-7,000rpm and it'll pick up all the knocking between those RPMs and counter it but do nothing at anything before that?

yep it's up to the tuner what cells are activated for the knock feedback.

This will help i think;

This is the ignition Map for a Z32, the red squares are are where the ECU accepts knock feedback and the blue squares are where it doesn't, but the tuner can change the squares if they desire.

Don't get scared off a Nistune based on a "he said they said" basis. Call Nistune themselves and speak to the guys direct. Nistunes retain knock sensing throughout the rev range ... PFC will just flash a light at you.

no wories ill ill go down and speak to them

sorry guys but i have no idea what "knock" is haha ill look it up soon

my cousin had his z32 ecu w nistune installed and tuned today at boostworx in his 33 gts4 rb25det. 60rwkw increase... unfknbelieveable!

it was running pretty average with the standard 33 ecu beforehand however.

but - nistune, quality. no doubt about it

Why cant you program nistune on an auto? the automatic ecu is a separate unit to the engine ecu... mine used to be auto, i looked at both the auto ecu and manual one and they are exactly the same.

Anyways, bang for your buck, nistune.

pfc is a good ecu but knock function is a fairly big downfall. if you know how to adjust maps on the go then thats fine but what if you have no clue, get a bad batch of fuel and dont take notice of it till its too late? thats where nistune wins it for me.

as far as hand controller stuff goes, you can get a hand monitor for a nistune also. you cant change maps however you can see all the data like the pfc, and since the nistune adjusts map for knock etc you wont need the controller function anyways. There are plenty of nissan consult style hand monitors you can buy from j-land and locally too, shows you everything you need to know.

Also, r33 ecus, you can get an external emulator to run the system. afaik only person selling and tuning them is Sam (Dr. Drift) in VIC but im pretty sure you can just buy the emulator and get it tuned locally.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
