hey all, well by my topic heading, you could get the idea that my shitline crapped it self... anywho, its the air flow meter or the ECU...Im getting a mate to put it on a diagnostic tool, to find out the problem and to see if there are any other gremlins...

My question is if its the ECU, am I better of getting a new aftermarket ECU/replace the hole thing, or get a second hand stock ECU/or a new stock ECU and than get a NIStune chip-and plug straight into it???

I have a R34 GT-t tiptronic 98'

I was going to do some upgrades, like:

NIStune

intercooler kit

valve body

Turbotech boost controller

as previously discussed in another topic in here

now also Im thinking of getting a bosch Z32 80mm with a tomei plug after the upgrades that im doing..

ANYway, its about the ECU's, and if it is the aftermarket ones, which one?? or whats good, whats bad, and what to came clean off???

mate for the mods you have listed, i would probably go down the nistune road because its cheaper and easier. if your planning on building a 700hp weapon in the future, then a full aftermarket ecu would be the way to go. see what good tuners are in your area, and see what products they use/tune.

unplug the afm and if it runs (2000 rpm rev limit tho) then there is your problem

you can do this if you ever need to limp the car anywhere

When i took the plug off the afm, the car idled very nicely but as soon as i put down the accelerator it coughed, splatted and stopped... i brought a secondhand afm, hopefully it will come this week, going to put that in, hopefully it works, and than when i get the nistune, im thinking i might get a new Bosch z32 80mm AFM with a tomei plug....

How did you diagnose that it was the ecu or AFM

Well it wasnt me, its was my mate... To cut to short, i told him what happen, he had alittle look, unplugged the AFM plug, and then i started it up, it idled fine, when i rev it alittle bit, it coughed and passed out..lol

then put the AFM back on, started it up, cough, splat, chug chug.

But now, 4 days late after it has just been sittin around the engine light has come on....

Just waitin on AFM.. than ill see where i stand...

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
