AutoSalon 2004 - less than 2-months to go...

Recommended Posts

I typed a big post before... but it logged me out.

Anyhow.

R34 GTR wheels will fit my car if R32 GTR wheels still dont sit out enough :O

and R33-t wheels dont even fit on my car due the offset.

But as for everything else... Good ideas coming out here.

Dont forget that this wont all come cheaply.

Last year (as some may not know) there was a bit of a hand from the guys at BMT to get us, and our stand to MAS.

Just remember in your ideas, to try think costs, and economy.

I dunno if a joint stand will occur at this stage, but if it does not... then we will have to think very smart.

While i sound like a poo etc etc... these things need to be remembered.

Other than that, any idea is a good idea!

And if we can 'borrow' things from here and there for the weekend, it'll work in our favour.

I think we all learnt a lot from last year that should make this year a SH(T load better in planning and execution (remember the t-shirts)

But yeah. I've got no ideas at the current. But if i think of something... then it'll get posted :zap:

as a question guys, what do we have left from last yrs event that we can salvage for this yrs?

also i think that if someone can look into getting prices for hiring fencing (or whateva its called), prices for t shirts / banners and associated items we might be able to get the ball rolling

basically nowadays, if someone brings me one for a mod, or a repair, i just say to the ppl that want mods, $450, they ask why i say $300 for a new PS2, $150 for the chip :) for those that want a repair i quote $300, flat rate, they ask why, you guessed it :)

lol narky, the older the model of PS2, the shitter the design of the laser and motherboard, nothing to brag about, the most current one u get in the shops however, is WAY ahead of the others, like WAY ahead...

pft! mine is like a 30002, one of the first ones. Since then haven't had ONE problem, still working fine chipped and all. Fired up GT3 the other day .. built a nice s13 drift racer.. man that game rocks!

gt4.. drools.. then drools some more, then wipes drool and drools a little more.

i was talking about the GT3 game f00!

I have about 45min of skid-pan footage

Also have about 1000 pics that can be put on a cd and played via a DVD player or computer (better image res. on computer)

Keen to play a part in this show, including entering my car.

Those t-shirts were my curse last year...

Myabe this time we do just one design - even I can't screw that up :P

I still have the big BF Goodrich R34 banner and all the PS2 link hardware.

Investigating some light-truss towers.

Ula - would love to have your car!

Fencing... can be 'borrowed' possibily :P

Heh - I don't know what you mean...

Maybe a meeting next week for people who want to be involved?

Pizza and drinks to talk about ideas?

Depending on the dvd player the jpeg's load up real slow.

I have my 119cm widescreen tv, but i aint to keen lugging that 60kg thing around.

There are a number of oportunities coming up to get more footage if we want to make a dvd.

We have the GOR cruise coming up.

Another skidpan weekend coming up

I have track days this weekend and mid march

Al was looking at a DECA day/weekend before the end of March

There will be skylines at the Drift Nationals

Im SURE we can arrange a day/night at Heathcote/Calder

Other day or night cruises can be arranged with short notice.

If someone has the facilities to take footage then Im sure we can make a pretty kick ass mixed dvd without too many problems.

James mentioned the idea of a racing theme - theme's are good in my opinion. As a slight variance to a racing theme could be a general motorsport theme including circuit, drag and drift. Show the versitility of the skyline as the ultimate motor sports car.

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
