cheers man. for such a small camera it never ceases to amaze me. yeah its got some limitations, but if you can look past them its also got more capabilities than you would expect.

i'll have a good look at your site when I get home, but from a quick glance I'm loving your night time car shots. inspirational :P

Hey Nick,

I use LR 3.2 and it's friggin awesome. Direct uploading to facebook/flickr/smugmug is great because i dont have to export to photoshop and edit them all individually like i normally do and then upload to flickr. That's the main reason i use it and also i use LR to rate my photos and cull them from events/things i attend or take photos of. Great organisational tool. I don't like bridge because i've always used LR, but bridge is a great tool - Just personal preference.

Also - I don't think Owens flash will work because it can't be put in slave mode (by the look of it).

the built in flash will only fire pre-flashes. Which are extremely low power but enough so that it will trigger your OCF flashes. Your OCF flashes will fire once they have detected the pre-flash. the pre-flash will not be able to be seen in the photo.

I thought there was a simpler way, i shall investigate further!

Matt - Website is looking good. Try to get an ABN and get a .com.au domain as well as a .com and setup a 301 re-direct. That way you own both domains.

I don't like how the first paragraph for the text next to the image is left aligned, yet the second paragraph is right aligned, i think it should both be the same if you know what i mean?

Set up a contact page! They are not hard. You don't even have to do the php coding, just download a template of a contact form off the interwebz. Will be much better than just having a "Contact" and your email below it. Will be more professional.

Have you thought about integrating a blog? Wordpress is free and simple to set up. With the theme you have going, you could just make the entire background black and it would look just the same as your website. Make sure it opens in a new tab though, that way people don't get re-directed and have to navigate back. This will most probably cause them to just exit your site.

If your marketing yourself as an automotive photographer, i suggest in your portfolio it has nothing besides automotive shots. No landscapes etc... This would be where a blog could come in handy where you could post your landscapes here or create a seperate page in the "galleries" and just have landscapes in there.

In your "featured cars" would you prefer the list to be going down or the list to go across like 3-5 shoots in a row?

Is there a reason in your "event galleries" there is 4 seperate pages of SAU's Texi day? Are these every single photo you took ( i assume so) or just the best from the day/reasonably sharp/composition is good bla bla?

Overall - I like the layout and the website, just pointing out a few things.

It's not left aligned, I just added a tab to the beginning of the paragraph, which is what you're meant to do when writing in english. I think it's something that's been forgotten with all these whizz bang new fangled computers. It does look odd. I might revise.

I can intergrate a blog easily, beleive it or not I am using wordpress, I just modded the shit out of it to suit what I wanted. I like the back end on it. I originally had a blog, i don't even think I deleted it, I just hated going back and looking at how shit most of my shots were.Thought it made me look bad on the site.

4 Event galleries cos the plug in i use dies if you throw more than 150 pics in. I Might look into that add on you've got. I really like how your pics navigate. it's really clever and easy. I deleted the pics that weren't sharp, but that's most of them up there. I just figured I'd put them up for people to see their cars. Definately wasn't a heavy cull.

I got my ABN using my name and as a sole trader. I think i did put in "Kory Leung Photography" as a business name, but i am trading under my name i think. Can't remember. Either way, i got it lol.

Ben - That first pic is really really moody! Love it! The 2nd one is really dramatic too. You've got an eye for shots, keep it up mate!

OR you could go back in a few months and shoot it at f/11 with a ND filter so that you don't create barrel distortion/show every single bit of dust on your sensor :)

so, went back out into the cold and dark to vandalize the neighborhood with light once again.

some worked some didnt, but had fun regardless. love the feeling of anticipation as you wait to see what comes up on screen.

not sure this one was worth the effort. had to jump a fence effectively locking myself in, lol. if security had come id have some explaining to do as theres no escape, haha.

So how do you do these, are they long exposure and you run a light around the outside of it?

yeah man, 30 - 60 seconds exposures and pretty much just trace the outline with an LED trying not to get in the way of the lens and accidently block the light (harder than it sounds at time, specially in tight places)

Lasers?

haha, nah no lasers, but if i had the money for a few diff coloured lasers I would love to use them, would open up a few more possibilities.

yeah pretty much, the led is almost touching the wall most times (well for outlines mainly). i sometimes end up with pretty badly scraped up knuckles as im tracing them out, lol. im looking into a better set of tools soon as these have translucent cases and if i dont hold them right i get double lines and other things happening. ah yeah the slide switches are getting a bit frustrating too, often cant slide them off in time and have to redo things a bit.

to get some ambient background colours stand further back with the torch, but hit it at around 45 degree angle or so to minimize blowouts and reflections. in the first two of the last set you can see a bright spot on the bottom of the wall where ive rested the torch on the ground so i have a little light to see what im doing, but as im looking at the LED's while tracing as soon as the lights off sometimes i cant see where the next line starts, haha.

and showing you up? i dont know about that, lol.

this thing has limitations, but i take that as a challenge rather than a defeat ;)

    • When I said "wiring diagram", I meant the car's wiring diagram. You need to understand how and when 12V appears on certain wires/terminals, when 0V is allowed to appear on certain wires/terminals (which is the difference between supply side switching, and earth side switching), for the way that the car is supposed to work without the immobiliser. Then you start looking for those voltages in the appropriate places at the appropriate times (ie, relay terminals, ECU terminals, fuel pump terminals, at different ignition switch positions, and at times such as "immediately after switching to ON" and "say, 5-10s after switching to ON". You will find that you are not getting what you need when and where you need it, and because you understand what you need and when, from working through the wiring diagram, you can then likely work out why you're not getting it. And that will lead you to the mess that has been made of the associated wires around the immobiliser. But seriously, there is no way that we will be able to find or lead you to the fault from here. You will have to do it at the car, because it will be something f**ked up, and there are a near infinite number of ways for it to be f**ked up. The wiring diagram will give you wire colours and pin numbers and so you can do continuity testing and voltage/time probing and start to work out what is right and what is wrong. I can only close my eyes and imagine a rat's nest of wiring under the dash. You can actually see and touch it.

So I thought if I used my table of known values I could estimate it by putting a value into the pullup resistor, and this should line up with the voltages I had measured. Input 1 = 2.98V Output 1 = 50C Input 2 = 0.407V Output 2 = 150C (0.407-2.98) / (150-50) -2.573/100 = -0.02573 2.98/-0.02573 + 47.045 = 50 So the corresponding formula should be: (Input / -0.02573) + 47.045 = Output.   If someone can confirm my math it'd be great. Supposedly you can pick any two pairs of the data to make this formula.
    • Well this shows me the fuel pump relay is inside the base of the drivers A Pillar, and goes into the main power wire, and it connects to the ignition. The alarm is.... in the base of the drivers A Pillar. The issue is that I'm not getting 12v to the pump at ignition which tells me that relay isn't being triggered. AVS told me the immobiliser should be open until the ignition is active. So once ignition is active, the immobiliser relay should be telling that fuel pump relay to close which completes the circuit. But I'm not getting voltage at the relay in the rear triggered by the ECU, which leaves me back at the same assumption that that relay was never connected into the immobiliser. This is what I'm trying to verify, that my assumption is the most likely scenario and I'll go back to the alarm tech yet again that he needs to fix his work.      Here is the alarms wiring diagram, so my assumption is IM3A, IM3B, or both, aren't connected or improper. But this is all sealed up, with black wiring, and loomed
