Duncan
for those plugs, you should leave them at 1.2mm unless you are getting a miss at high boost. The bigger the gap the better the burn, people only gap them down when the spark is not strong enough at high boost. good idea to check stuff out early....can't say I've ever tried that Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/342805-my-hr31-buildup/page/6/#findComment-6810104 Share on other sites

Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham
So, my EOI entry for WTAC has been accepted guess they need some back markers to liven things up hahaHave some work to do in the next few months to bring it up to standard. Can anybody tell me what the lowest weight "manufacturer's original specifications" for a HR31 is? Im allowed to have upto 15% less than that. Got started on the weekend. As im going to be very under powered in open, my goals are;-make better use of what the car already has-make the car as reliable as I can-have as much fun as I can. Plans so far…I don’t really want to pump any motor power through the motor as isn’t a built motor and I don’t have the cash to build one between now and then, So ive ordered a few bits and pieces like 25% under driven balancer and lightweight flywheel with arp bolts to free up some power. will aslo be getting retuned as wellI have a 9l gated sump to go in, heat shields, new wastegate diaphragm and lines, new turbo beanie as the last one is falling apart.Spare exhaust manifold (old has cracked again) Im redoing the exhaust (this time side dump and screamer) to clear up the back end for the diffuser and save a bit more weight.getting ready to pull the motor. also sort of how the exhaust will sit, basically just flipping it over cutting the end off and adding a bend to go out the side. The splitter and side skirts are going to be dropped down to around the 70mm height rule, just with sheet alloy. Wont look pretty but should help. The hydro is going too, as It makes bleeding a bitch.Front guards have been spaced out 30mm help stop wheel well turbulence, don’t know if it’ll work but looks cool and i'll be making some bracing for the engine bay/firewall here too.Was pleased to see little/no rustBum cut outAnd Ive bought a spare set of axles of Tir31 just in case. Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham
Got a little done on the weekend.Putt the fittings put on to the new sump and fitted the ignition cut off cable. I’ll get some pics later..Bit of weight reduction…. Im tiding up the bay while the motors out, bit of paint, fixing up some wiring and general messiness.Cut out the radiator support panel for ease of removing the motor, knocked up a new one and some air guides for it too.Not finished yet but you get the idea. Need to do something for the top of it too.Old vs new flywheelIm also going to put on some 25 cam covers I have, and am tossing up wether to paint them red again or black. or yellow. lol any votes?boat anchor Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/342805-my-hr31-buildup/page/6/#findComment-6911196 Share on other sites

Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham
Well, im feeling quite loved atm Fatz the top bloke he is has started a thread to help me get to WTAC. And so far has raised a heap of the folding stuff, help and even a sponsorship deal with Australian & Japanese Dismantlers for a set of tyres. This has really taken huge burden off me and I am really grateful for the generosity shown by the members of this club, Thanks heaps everyone! Engine bay degreased and a lick of paint to make it feel pretty. New cam cover gaskets have rocked up today, so tonight I’ll prep and paint the 25 cam covers.. the extra volume should help keep a bit less oil making it to the catch can. I put on the modified sump (think its about 8l with gates) and new balancer (which is tiny). Also a new timing belt and tensioner while I had easy access. Just waiting on one more fitting for the new head drain hose, then I’ll slap on the flywheel and put it back in the car. Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham
Ok, I have a little question. My current exhaust manifold has cracked (again) and I don’t really want to re-weld it. I have two options, either buy another and keep the same setup or use a Twin Scroll manifold (has two old HKS wastegates) that I already have but will need to buy a new turbo housing for. It should be about the same cost, just a little more work to go T/S The turbo is T3 atm and the T/S mani is T4 What are peoples opinions? DCIEVE
I would put a steam pipe single scroll mani on it. Your putting in a lot of effort to make the event, would be a shame to have a thin wall ss manifold crack or old waste gate fail on the day. TS would be nice but it comes at a cost. Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham
I have decided that the money from the donations will all go towards tyres. I'll do a sexy poise on them when i get them This has freed up enough money that i was able to replace the manifold rather than weld up the cracks again. Its a one of the Mild steel jobies from Hybrid in NZ, the quality is actually pretty good (better than the chinese one) I didnt get a pic but its all smooth in the collector and the face of the flanges (thick too) a straight. It puts the gate futher away too, which i think will help with the diaphragm issue. Also rerouted the water return, put the new beanie on and have use silcon hose for the wastegate.New oil drain from the head to sumpI have also finish painting the new cam covers. dont you judge me...YELLOW!!!I think it'll look good in an all black engine bay. Ive painted the strutbrace and boosted stopper i made black so they dont stand out too much.I'll put the flywheel and clutch on and hopefully have it back in the engine bay this weekend. What do people think of Royal Purpal oils? thinking of trying them as im a sucker for advertising Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/342805-my-hr31-buildup/page/6/#findComment-6931219 Share on other sites

Duncan
What do people think of Royal Purple oils? thinking of trying them as im a sucker for advertising I've used all the top oils, even the $50/l stuff and they all effectively work the same....basically none of them provide significantly better protection and performance than each other. Obviously use synthetic, change it often, and make sure it doesn't get too hot. But don't worry too much about which brand Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/342805-my-hr31-buildup/page/6/#findComment-6931880 Share on other sites
