It's just not practical for road cars to have a cage, period.

Sprints on cold tyres? What about 30 cars door to door battling for T1 on cold tyres.

I dont buy that argument (that sprints are more dangerous).

Look what popped up again! Ok to solve the problem could the R35 GTR stop being driven on the road as daily drivers. You are only allowed to drive them on weekends to race track and put slicks on there to do sub 1:40’s.

Duncan (LSX-438) can you please go buy another every day road car to keep the completion fair for others at sprints and do more mods to the R35 as it must only be your weekend car now.

This crap is going nowhere lets forget about it......

Now that would be hilarious. Dunno how many "registered" cars i've seen turn up, on trailers, gutted, caged, carbon panels with all sorts of race gear. Truth is even a car with a simple tune or exhaust is probably "illegal" in that sense anyway, no car in the paddock would pass.

Can't wait for someone to open that can of worms one day.

indeed....would be the easiest championship my car would ever win.

All of which makes the point that seperate and open rules for "street registered" cars are bullshit. Same with SV for that matter. Just put them in the appropriate 1/2/3/4/5 class that all cars are meant to run in. I don't see how having a log book defines which class you should be in, and more than 50% of cars are in these "special" classes now which makes it all pretty meaningless.

Regardless of anything else going on in this thread, Duncan I am surprised you are happy to be doing the lap times you are without a roll cage.

I didnt say i'm happy. I have looked into a cage, it's just not going to work in a street car.

I can see the safety argument of course, but at the same time sprints are not racing, and NOBODY is racing anywhere under CAMS without a cage.

Why change the rules to exclude the vehicles for which the category was invented for?

To me that's stupid.

A better approach is to just buy a race car, and go racing.

I can see what you are saying, but you are still going just as quick, if not doing quicker lap times in the Sprint series than you would door to door.

going 11/10ths in a sprint or a "race" is still going 11/10ths

you can still drop a wheel in the dirt and end up on the roof etc and a quicker car on slicks is going to have a bigger stack than captain slow in his daily drive civic.

So yes there are arguments both for and against requiring a cage in the quicker classes.

And not everyone wants or can afford to go door to door with their race car so they have fun at sprints, which isnt what owning a club racer is all about? fun? Not "you have a cage gtfo of my sprint series" etc.

i dont see why not if you drive maturely.. i ran semi slicks(toyo r1r's) on my last daily(gtir) and it was awesome.. id use them again if they werent so bloody expensive for 18's

Just to keep the stupidness going I have plan Neil, you go buy at shitty Suzuki Swift that is road registered still. Stamp the VIN number on your car somewhere and put the number plates on the Radical take one part of the swift and put it on the Radical and you have a Radical Swift Kit Car and can run in SV with the Clubmans. It’s not your Daily drive so it will be fine........

Someone in Bankstown will give you a pink slip every year for $100 to keep is registered.

NOBODY is proposing that race cars (with a cage or whatever) should NOT run in sprints at all. The issue here is some think (certain) road cars should NOT run - in sprints no less. A category invented so people with road cars can have a crack at the track. All i am saying is, if you insist on unadulterated CAMS rules - go and play in a race category.

Yeah I get that, but street cars dont run slicks do they...Which is the the issue a lot of people have.

I dont care if you turn up in a Maserati MC12 GTR, but if you want to run in a road car catagory then you should run road tyres, if you want to play with the race cars on slicks then you should have a cage like a race car.

Not directly having a go at you Dunc, But I like the Vic rules better, where if you want slicks then get a cage.

But it's not just about the tyres though, there have been issues/unofficial protests about engine capacity, gearboxes (dsg) window nets, wings, race seats, etc etc etc etc etc. And it's all come from a single person this year with a hidden agenda.

I for one, chose to build a non-registered track only S13 with full roll cage because I enjoy the extra security in the event of a big crash.

As the car was not road registered, I was required to obtain a CAMS log book. (which I happily did)

If I built another car, it would keep the car road registered and install a rear 1/2 bolt in cage only and run in type SV or 3.

As people have said, at the end of the day, it's only a supersprint and we are not racing for sheep stations!

If LSX-438 wants to run at those speeds without a cage, so be it. Fingers crossed nothing bad happens.

I would draw the line, when tyres say for racing purpose only, if I was scrutineering and you didn't have a cage at supersprint, hillclimb or rally.

Just a question, how come you didn't run slicks or electronic wing at superlap?

Secondly, I don't have a hidden agenda - the d*)khe#d that let you run in 4D (Sports Sedan) in the first place f*!ked the 4D sports sedan class, period.

Note to all - next year NSW supersprint, R35's and similar can run 4E class, this allows, for over 6ltr, traction control, no window nets, no race seats, no roll cage etc etc etc

(but must be road registered)

I like your competiton and watching R35's compete - I had no quarms on championship points or previous years - still don't. I think it is wrong that they were allowed to go in 4D and obtain records, in a totally non complying car - my opinion and the way I read the CAMs manual - and if the NSW supersprint panel continues to make new classes and changes and the owners can't nominate the correct class or get them changed to suit f'it who's gunna bother turning up. (Irace Do You?)

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
