If you are getting boost spikes with no boost controller it wont help, it is your gate setup that is causing it, boost controllers can only make the boost come on faster and higher, cant lower it or make it slower.

What are you currently using for boost control and what is your turbo setup?

its just got a shitty turbosmart bleed valve. just running the stock N1 turbos.

fingers cross its just the bleed valve causing it. i really dont wanna go chasing problems.

starting to wish i kept the V8!!!

Get rid of the bleed valve and get an EBC, eboost street are around $400 and very good, as good as any of the other brand name ones for $600+

You could also try reducing the line size on the bleed valve, the mechanical ones often spike if they have more than 10cm of line on them, when I first got my first turbo car it had almost a metre of line, spiked to 16psi then dropped to 10 on the lowest setting with a turbo smart one, cut the lines right back and it got a lot better but still spiked.

EBC is the only way to go, a stock GTR controller should let you run 10psi quite easily and this is all you want to run max anyway if you dont have supporting mods, if you do then EBC it up.

hey sorry to take your thread but does any one know about an ebc that will have a high/low boost button.

ie. press the button remote mounted and your car goes to 20 psi until button if pressed again, then boost goes to 12psi.

not the turn and push because to have the car leagel in qld you cant have a in cabin ebc. may get around the boost controler in cabin senario by putting the controler in the bay or deep inside the dash and just hiding the solenoid. yeah sorry about the hijack but this may be used in future by me.

As Nismoid said get a turbotech boost controller so many people have used them with 0 issues (me included) they even do an electronic kit now for like $80. It's all on ebay not sure how their electronic kit works but if it's anything like the MBC it will be very good

pretty much all have different boost settings where you can just press a button, just cut the ass out of your ashtray and mount it in there, easy access and no one will ever see it, thats what I did

Benefit of Dual over single solenoid ?

Dual's tend to hold boost more reliably and tend to reduce any boost spikes caused by the EBC itself.

As they are Dual Solenoid they can meter/read from two sources therefore have a more reliable reading.

Turbosmart eboosts can have a remote mounted switch wired to earth that changes between boost groups.

Get a decent ebc man, your standard nismo turbos are good for 20psi mine are anyway. Im making 300kw on 18psi. Get the ebc and a PFC and send me a PM. I can get you good dyne time at a good price

gizzmo ebc allows a remote button to switch profiles or overboost for x no. of seconds

    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.
    • Oh, you are right. But, in Australia E10 is based on 91RON fuel and ends up being 94RON. Hence it being the cheaper option for economy cars. The more performance oriented cars go for the 98RON fuel that has no ethanol mixed in. The only step up we have left then at some petrol stations is E85.
    • There is a warning that "this thread is super old" but they ignore that anyway...
    • With 10% Ethanol, we're talking 2-3% fuel consumption difference. The emissions reductions and octane boost in my opinion far outweigh this almost non existent loss.    My tanks sitting at 80%. Luckily that should go down fast as I'm on vacation again for the next two weeks.
