Crashed My R32 Into The Gutter. Tyre Arm Area Is All Bent

Recommended Posts

Sounds like you lucky you didn't hit anything else!! could have got much more expensive very quickly.

but sounds like that's the right idea, get it rolling, get them to give you a list..save up and fix it...and get insurance....

I dunno what the parts cost as it was over a decade ago but I remember the final bill being around 4k. I had only had he car for a few months and didn't want to have to make an insurance claim so I paid for it.

Otherwise they would have probably doubled my premium or torn up my policy at 20 yo.

GTST's aren't that expensive these days so look around and maybe by a cheap one. Then keep yours for spares.

Honestly as it sits now with the damage no 1 in will pay any more than 2k for a broken car. i just bought a 32 4 door for 3k hail damaged with a broken rear screen found one for $350 and also needed a LH blinker got that for $55 my silvia before this i bought for $500 they were both good deals but the point im trying to make is no one in their right mind would pay 6-7k for a wreck. maybe if you parted it possible you might get close to that amount but not as a whole car. your best option would be to buy a wreck with all the parts you require and fix it slowly over time. To put it in perspective your not going to have a car for xmas.

Is this the HPF in dandenong ?

just tell them to do this:

rear lower control arm $180 (could've bought it on SAU for $90 but didnt have the time)

2 x rear struts $150 each

+ labour

that way you have it rolling/ kind of driving.

rear cradle is the same as s13 if that helps but it shud be still drivable with a stuffed k frame.

and what suburb are you located at? the damage cant be that bad, i might come round and have a sus

I got them to just leave it after doing the rear lower control arm, and the bill came to $380!

Dan_J yeah HPF in Dande. I think they said the upper control arm or something couldnt sit right because of the damage to the k frame, but I'm not sure.

They said without the K frame they can weld someshit and just that + lower control arm + labor it will be $800 and thats just a temporary fix and theres no guarantee even that will hold it.

So could I then get a rear cradle for an s13 or an r32 for parts? or even buy a half cut? could I use GTR parts or they must come off a GTST or it depends on the part?

I'm in Hampton Park mate yourself? Yeah I'm gonna tow it back to my place tomorrow, more then happy for you to check it out and give me your opinion! =D

spewin (about ridiculous towing fee) i just saw this, i drove past it on sunday as its close to my shop.... and thought poor bastard.

Dude i have cradle $150 and arms $50 sitting here if you get stuck and cant find anything.

It will need rear cradle, it wont be noticeable but the lower mount ALWAYS moves a few mm.... its all easy to fit.... most complete r32 rear cradles go for $400 with all arms, fitting is around 30 mins max 50mins.... so approx $120.

f**k thats cheap trent. what else you got for a 32 or even a 4 door 32. maybe pm so i dont hijack old mates thread. mainly after 20 man box pedal set fly wheel. few other bits n pieces.

Hey Trent! Dont know if you remember my car? I've taken it to you for work before, I cant remember what it was for but I was also gonna get a remap but ended up not doing it.

That sounds pretty good, I'll definitely take it. I'm gonna go pick my car up from HPF on the trailer, maybe I'll drive it to your shop since its only around the corner and see if you can check it out?

Okay heres the update!

Took my car from HPF and paid them $380 just to provide and change the lower control arm and go over it. Sounds like a bit much but whatever had to get it outta there.

Took my car past Status Tuning and had a chat to Trent and thank GOD I spoke to him, as he was saying the job isnt that hard, max 1 hour! Whereas this morning at HPF they were going on about how big the job is, actually using the words "mega job" lol which all turned out to be bullshit.

So I'm gonna get the rear cradle and arms off Trent and either have my mate do it, or wait until Trent comes back on Jan 10th and have it done then.

This pretty much means instead of me having to sell my car for parts, since its only gonna cost $300-400 to get it back on the road I get to keep it YAY! :D

Then I just gotta buy a new rim and 2 new rear tyres (had to buy new tyres anyway)

Gotta give a big thanks to Trent for being so helpful, top bloke :)

You said it!

I usually change my tyres whenever needed, I swapped my fronts a few months ago and when I did that they said the rear's were fine for now, and I guess it just slipped my mind to keep checking to see when I'll need to replace it.

My mate works as a tyre fitter, he's pricing me up some 19" 235's, and with the rim I'm thinking of seeing if its possible to have fixed, because to me it doesn't look that bad

Its still a big job dude i work for pedders and to change the cradle bushes over requires taking out whole rear cradle then burning the old bushes out as you cant press a giant sub frame then putting the new bushes in and so fourth to get the cradle out might take an hour as you only have to undo the shock let it hang and also take off the brake calipers on both sides. i worked on a customers xr6 turbo the other day at work and his car had been to HPF his total bill was $14,658 for bigger turbo, cooler kit, flash tune, install brembo brakes so fourth the labour cost alone were like 5 or 6k so youll be glad you got it out of there. trent knows his shit you wont have any more problems with it..

Woah HPF they are such a rip!

Yeah Trent checked it out today and said it wasn't a big job, that it was fairly easy so I'm hoping thats the case.

his invoice was like 3 or 4 pages long as i read through it i was thinking holy f**k what a dumb arse. its a fkn quick xr6 turbo just looks like its been FPV optioned. He had a fair bit of shit done was just waht i mentioned i just couldnt remember all of it he did get his centre diff bush done also which is a bit of job in it self bit like taking the rear cradle out of 32. you wouldnt see my cars there but my cars dont go to workshops either as i work on them my self when the time comes for a tune. trent will be my choice for one.

Might also be an idea to brush up on your mech knowledge and do a fair amount of homework if you're going to continue to keep the car, and continue to drive it in a manner that caused this type of accident to begin with...

You may also want to retract this statement "HPF they were going on about how big the job is, actually using the words "mega job" lol which all turned out to be bullshit." as you have no grounds to call it bullshit as you don't have any idea yourself. Each workshop accesses it differently and it may have been the case that it was a mega job to one workshop (i.e. HPF), although a smaller job to another shop (i.e. Trent's). Having said that, it does looks like HPF took advantage of your lack of knowledge which was your downfall.

You were very lucky to come across an honest workshop in Trent, and if you didn't get lucky coming across Trent you may have very well ended up getting it fixed by HPF and would have praised them about fixing your car as you mentioned previously you've used them and trusted them before

Moral of the story... Don't go mouthing off about workshops when you yourself have no idea about the work involved. As I said, brush up on your knowledge and you will put yourself in a better position to determine what's best for you, your car, and your pockets

Cheers,

Andy

I've used HPF for simple things which any mechanic could do, nothing major like this. Praise to them as they sure know how to do a service!

Well obviously I'm not a mechanic, I don't know about repairs which is why I asked on here in the first place to learn. Not being a mechanic I dont know every part of the car and how it works, if I did I'd fix it myself!!!! I now know what work is to be done, and realize what HPF suggested was ridiculous. They said for $800 they could try and weld and patch up the K frame temporarily, and almost $2000 to get a replacement K frame and swap it (same job quoted $200 parts from Trent + $300 for the swap at GT Hyper). Nice mark up there HPF!

They did try to take advantage of my lack of knowledge, which makes them f*king dirty! Making someone who crashed their car pay 2-3 times more then it should cost? Very low thing to do and I'm happy to expose it here :)

At the end of the day, they tried to charge more then what they should've so I'm not retracting sh*t I stand by what I said.

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
