Don't mean to drain it for you, but i've got a question i want to ask about my car and situation and who better answer my question, then other people like me.

Well i recently turned 21 and i own a r33 GTR my favorite car to date and bla bla, however i don't get my license till may next year (lost them due to points long story).

This is my problem, my old man wants me to sell due to it just sitting there and the fact that I'm getting engaged in about 2-3 months hence i could use the money for my future ect if i do sell the car, but i recently got a full time job so.. what do i do? I really want to keep it and spend some money on it and get it to hit 11's but just not to sure. Do i sell use the money, and wait till may get something else or?

Any opinions or words of wisdom would be appreciated!

Thanks alot for taking your time to read this shit. Cheers

Why do girfriends parents etc all seem to think you have to cut of your nuts to get engaged, married etc.

I bowed to pressure when I was young and sold a couple of very collectable cars.

A ht bathurst monaro and a mini cooper s. Regretted it ever since.

My advice to you is simple, If you are in a position to keep the car and still get on with your life then just put your foot down right now! Make a very firm stand or they will nag and gnaw at you till you give in just to keep the peace. Go on the attack to the point that they become afraid to even raise the issue with you.

Either that or go nutless as I did for 20/30 years.

Practical: Now is not a good time to sell the car anyway. January is always a slow month.

Family: Some people just don't realise that a GT-R does not depreciate like many other dealership cars.

Mods: You can be frugal, and just buy bolt-ons, which can later on be removed and sold.

Emotional: You love this car so much and it's a good one - so does your G/F want a happy B/F or a grumpy one?

G/F: She can talk and talk and talk: meanwhile you can look her square in the eyes as if you're paying attention and dream of how those mods are going to work!

PS Diamond rings cost cheaper at the Hok Shop/Deceased Estates

^ ^ ^ Yep, more than that!

But: I'm talking relative here Jas. kinggtr wouldn't have bought his car at a dealership.

Example

Bought my R33 GT-R in '01 > sold in '04 > depreciated $2K per year

Bought my R34 GT-R in '06 > sold yesterday > depreciated $2K per year

Wait what, did you sell your GTR Terry?

Yes Jonny, to a fellow enthusiast I'm glad to say > it'll still be in NSW tho' with the same number plates, but shod with bronze LMGT4s.

As per above, my car was bought in 12/06 for $54,800 & it has only lost $8K value in exactly 4 yrs.

You better be replacing it with somethin good or you're goin down you senile old bastard.

Sigh...

...reminiscing over my 1st car - brand spanking new Datsun 1600 > added 45DCOE Webers (& hate to say it in 2010... chrome wheels - lol)

Khaled, if your engagement doesn't come to fruition, please don't come back to us and announce that you said to her, "YOU DID THIS TO ME!!!" (by hastily selling off your GT-R).

...after all that good solid ('er quicksand) advice we've given you - LOL

1600, noice. One car i never owned and wished I did Terry. couple of mates had them and loved them. Good cars for sure.

keep the car, when you get engaged the next thing is a wedding and a house and after that u wont be able to afford one. keep it while your still young and enjoy it.

if you realy get desperate then sell it until then just hold onto it. its not like its costing u that much money to have it sitting in your driveway.

my missus already knows what comes first with me so she knows that i wouldnt sell it unless totaly needed.

Dont sell the car and become a miserable prune forever. You will resent your new wife and your family in 5 years time when your only pass time is the gardening.

Do yourself and your relationship the favour and keep the car.

As stated already, be sensible about how much money you spend on it :)

Just drive the thing and maintain it. Put a small amount of money asside here and there for things you want to do to it. Take your wife out in it on sundays to nice places and make her appreciate the fact you have it, like you do.

Simple!

Thanks for all replies fellas didnt think most if you would saying to keep it. To be honest misus loves the car, just pressure from my parents and hers.

However as UWISHH stated I think il keep the car till I really and truely need the money.

Thanks again

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
