$6000 = learner legal motorbike that will go faster than a turbo Skyline. The you of tomorrow will hate the you of today for spending $6k on an n/a Skyline...and guess which one is still waiting to become you!

Why not just scruntch the money up and jam it up your own arse? That's about on par with dropping $6k on an NA 33 insofar as usefullness goes.

Seriously, if you can't put up with your current car for another couple of years, you've got issues. Well, either that or a bottomless pit of money cause you'd have to be stupid to spend money on an NA 33 when the benefits of holding off for a while are so large.

You know a good test to give children is to put a lolly in front of them and tell them they can have that one lolly now or they can wait until tomorrow and get 5 lollies and see what happens. 99/100 times they'll take the lolly now. They don't have the brain development to actually weight up pros and cons of taking or waiting. Maybe you have the brain of a 2 year old?

Also, nanogrip, I'm not sure if you are Australian or not, but in Australia we speak British English and it's a bonnet and guards, not hood and fenders. Learn it.

Hood/fenders = US English

Bonnet/guards = British English.

Who cares what words he uses, we still understood them.

And you can do the same thing with your post because it's about as useful as it gets.

I want to get the base of the end-product of what I've wanted since I was 11 so I can pay for everything earlier and get the car done earlier. Then I have the car I've always wanted and will be able to put my money into a house.

It's not taking the one lolly, it's strategically choosing when to use my money.

I don't need a house now.. I'm 18. Might as well get the car done whilst I can.

^ -- Seriously that $6k will just be a complete and utter total waste. Just wait it out dude, with $6k dropped into a turbo motor you'll make some pretty good gains!

If you have $6k now, imagine what you'll have by the time you can buy a turbo? mmmmm.

So just wait.

I realize. I'm selling the 33.

Yeah, I want a bike. Everyone in my life will kill me for buying one though.

The thought that I can get something later is somewhat comforting.. I've been trying to use it...

LOL was reading this post and even noticed the dp and i was like wow skittles taht similar to jacobs... halfway through ir ealised it was you LOL

LOL Caleb you gronk :P

I need to see this front bar you have IRL... interested to see what it's actually like quality wise.

6k can buy you a quick learner bike plus good safety gear and your licensing fees if you're careful with what you buy. Do an advanced/defensive riders course though, those things are really important for drivers let alone l-plate riders.

It'll almost buy you a bottom-end-of-market r33 gtst, and another 2k will get you mid-market (for series 1's anyway, damn they're getting cheap).

3k could buy you a 3.5L 3rd gen magna which was the quickest aussie 6's of the time (stock for stock, don't try to tell falcodore owners that, they get very upset), and therefore quicker than most na skylines. Another 1k on that will buy you the best suspension setup available plus a decent droneless catback exhaust, turning a fat-ish family car into something a lot more fun. Then you still have 2k left over, which is always nice.

6k would also buy you a >190hp prelude as well, just don't get one running low on vtec.

And would be more than enough for a go-kart if you wanted some real speed :P

Your answer is a good hypnotherapist > you think you're going twice as fast as what the speedo says.

Sux tho' when you get horned for going through school zones at 20.

Charge is $99 and I'll hold onto the other $5901 'till you get your blacks. :P

What a rip off...I have some substances that can make you feel like you're going fast without even stepping into the car. All yours for $30! That's less than 1/3 the price of hypnopeddler here^

I've not lost to a learner legal bike yet !

and a lot of not so learner legal ones too :P

I guess overall, you've gotten enough ideas/recommendations to make a genuine decision. At the end of the day it's your money. Thank f**k I never had the whole p-plater restriction law. I reckon save the 6k and 2 years down track you decide on what you exactly want.

lol that's because

1. Learners can't ride (well most can't, it takes a failry long time to learn how to ride properly).

2. A lot of learner riders just want to be hip and cool and will never be enthusiastic enough to ride for sh!t.

and 3. Half of them ride posties (exaggeration).

The fastest l plate legal bikes can be bought for 6k and do 0-100 in a bit over 5s (with rossi riding anyways).

If it were me and I was stuck on my P's for 3+ years I'd:

Get a decent 2-way LSD.

Decent coil overs.

Hidden NOS set up.

I wouldn't have the NOS hooked up all the time though, just plug the bottle in for the occasional DECA, dyno, drag day etc.

I got $6000 which was going to put a new engine in my car with a GTST gearbox, but I've had one of those 'maturity' hits recently and I've decided against driving a turbo.

Soooo... what can I do for $6000? I'm thinking exhaust, headers, coil-overs. Anything else that'll give me a bit more pick-up?

My 2 cents if its worth that much improve on the engine shop around for parts do some research and find out how to get more power from your motor. Mabye new head? such as porting, intake, exhaust and cams mabye bottom end rebuild with higher compression pistions? or try to improve handling. BUT my advice dont listen to others and saying to wait another 2 years things may change you may change your mind i don't know but 2 years is along time.i know how you feeling seeing as i had a faster car then the one i have now and your always lusting after power. but who knows you might have more money when comes to buy a turbo engine or car to replace your other motor either way your never going to make your money back so its weither or not your devoted enough to do it or willing. that said you can also get a different na car but in the end if its not big on liters or power then its not really gonna be fast or cheap so completely up to you just my 2 cents don't hate me for it.

Also shop around in more then one place and if your mechanical minded then do the stuff your self save your self heaps if you know how to do it.

    • Power is fed to the ECU when the ignition switch is switched to IGN, at terminal 58. That same wire also connects to the ECCS relay to provide both the coil power and the contact side. When the ECU sees power at 58 it switches 16 to earth, which pulls the ECCS relay on, which feeds main power into the ECU and also to a bunch of other things. None of this is directly involved in the fuel pump - it just has to happen first. The ECU will pull terminal 18 to earth when it wants the fuel pump to run. This allows the fuel pump relay to pull in, which switches power on into the rest of the fuel pump control equipment. The fuel pump control regulator is controlled from terminal 104 on the ECU and is switched high or low depending on whether the ECU thinks the pump needs to run high or low. (I don't know which way around that is, and it really doesn't matter right now). The fuel pump control reg is really just a resistor that controls how the power through the pump goes to earth. Either straight to earth, or via the resistor. This part doesn't matter much to us today. The power to the fuel pump relay comes from one of the switched wires from the IGN switch and fusebox that is not shown off to the left of this page. That power runs the fuel pump relay coil and a number of other engine peripherals. Those peripherals don't really matter. All that matters is that there should be power available at the relay when the key is in the right position. At least - I think it's switched. If it's not switched, then power will be there all the time. Either way, if you don't have power there when you need it (ie, key on) then it won't work. The input-output switching side of the relay gains its power from a line similar (but not the same as) the one that feeds the ECU. SO I presume that is switched. Again, if there is not power there when you need it, then you have to look upstream. And... the upshot of all that? There is no "ground" at the fuel pump relay. Where you say: and say that pin 1 Black/Pink is ground, that is not true. The ECU trigger is AF73, is black/pink, and is the "ground". When the ECU says it is. The Blue/White wire is the "constant" 12V to power the relay's coil. And when I say "constant", I mean it may well only be on when the key is on. As I said above. So, when the ECU says not to be running the pump (which is any time after about 3s of switching on, with no crank signal or engine speed yet), then you should see 12V at both 1 and 2. Because the 12V will be all the way up to the ECU terminal 18, waiting to be switched to ground. When the ECU switches the fuel pump on, then AF73 should go to ~0V, having been switched to ground and the voltage drop now occurring over the relay coil. 3 & 5 are easy. 5 is the other "constant" 12V, that may or may not be constant but will very much want to be there when the key is on. Same as above. 3 goes to the pump. There should never be 12V visible at 3 unless the relay is pulled in. As to where the immobiliser might have been spliced into all this.... It will either have to be on wire AF70 or AF71, whichever is most accessible near the alarm. Given that all those wires run from the engine bay fusebox or the ECU, via the driver's area to the rear of the car, it could really be either. AF70 will be the same colour from the appropriate fuse all the way to the pump. If it has been cut and is dangling, you should be able to see that  in that area somewhere. Same with AF71.   You really should be able to force the pump to run. Just jump 12V onto AF72 and it should go. That will prove that the pump itself is willing to go along with you when you sort out the upstream. You really should be able to force the fuel pump relay on. Just short AF73 to earth when the key is on. If the pump runs, then the relay is fine, and all the power up to both inputs on the relay is fine. If it doesn't run (and given that you checked the relay itself actually works) then one or both of AF70 and AF71 are not bringing power to the game.
    • @PranK can you elaborate further on the Colorlock Dye? The website has a lot of options. I'm sure you've done all the research. I have old genuine leather seats that I have bought various refurbing creams and such, but never a dye. Any info on how long it lasts? Does it wash out? Is it a hassle? What product do I actually need? Am I just buying this kit and following the steps the page advises or something else? https://www.colourlockaustralia.com.au/colourlock-leather-repair-kit-dye.html
    • These going to fit over the big brakes? I'd be reeeeeeeeaaaall hesitant to believe so.
    • The leather work properly stunned me. Again, I am thankful that the leather was in such good condition. I'm not sure what the indent is at the top of the passenger seat. Like somebody was sitting in it with a golf ball between their shoulders. The wheels are more grey than silver now and missing a lot of gloss.  Here's one with nice silver wheels.
    • It's amazing how well the works on the leather seats. Looks mint. Looking forward to see how you go with the wheels. They do suit the car! Gutter rash is easy to fix, but I'm curious about getting the colour done.
