you mean like the F50 that rocks a VQ in a land barge RWD platform? Or the relatively smaller C35 sedans? Neither sold in oz tho in full volume.

I thought the restrictions in place in v8supertaxi's meant that both bogan sleds were essentially the same shit with different shells? I doubt BMW or Nissan for that matter would be prepared to Nascar it up for a fringe consumer group like australia.

Doesnt really matter a whole lot, i expect Nissan if interested would go with a model that isnt sold in Aus and call it a Mazimia or jsut use the Maxima look etc. The appeal of being able to go racign without the massive expense of developing chassis and components means I think manufacturers could be more readily drawn into a class like Supercar. But can also think of reasons why they wouldnt be interested and this is Cockgrain being a dill trying to talk up the series and its international appeal! :(

personally I wish we had a national racing series like the british touring cars; so much more variety as a result of their regulations no doubt.

BMW in V8 supercabs? still wouldn't be interested

hell, even WRC is Ford/Citroen lately, boring

Apparently BMW have had talks about joining the V8SC. Normally I'm dubious about this as it's usually media speculation, but it seems like they may be serious this time. Firstly, do you agree, and secondly, do you like the idea?

Personally I like it, more diversity is a good thing. Foreign manufacturers will improve competition and thus racing, hopefully.

Linky??

It would be great to see another winning driver call the pack of bogans a "Pack of arseholes" coz lets face it, if BMW entered, neither Ford or Holden would see which way it went, those guys know how to biuld some serious V8's, not the old pushrod 2 valve shit that I believe the V8 Supercars are limited to. (I think that is still the case?)

Consequently if BMW were asked to develop a pushrod V8, I really think they would tell AVESCO to fark off, "vee are not going backwards by over 40 years just to race in your two bit series you stupid skips"

I would love to see it happen, but I wouldn't like to be hanging by my old fella waiting for it.

After a bit of research it seems that under the "Car of the Future" project headed by Mark Skaife, there can be V8 engines of any make as long as they are subjected to an "Engine Equalisation Program for any variant from respective manufacturers that could co-exist with the current V8 Ford and Holden powerplants."

In other words, if a particular car/engine is too fast, then make it slower, (remember the R32 weight handicap) what a great "COMPETITION" to be a part of, more like a farce if you ask me. And then who can build the faster race car? No one, thats who.

How does any of that benefit the end user, the new car buyer?

That is what Motor Racing was originally supposed to create, better cars for the average person and more sales for the better manufacturer, not this NASCAR style of so called competition.

Shortly after the unveiling of the Car of the Future, "Holden chief Simon McNamara warned potential new manufacturers to stay out of the championship just hours after the plans were released, claiming that they would "gain nothing" from entering the series"

Why are Holden so negative about other manufacturers entering the sport? $$$$$ and the fact that they have never really had any competition other than Ford, and that has been feeble until recent years.

The stupid thing about McNamara's statement is that if BMW etc entered this competition under the existing proposed rules, wouldnt he be happy to see Holden's potentially equalling/beating BMW's on the track?

Given the price differential between the two on the showroom floor, it would make the Holden vs BMW price difference look quite stupid.

oh right - what i DID wanna know is...

any sauce on this BMW thing??? anyone?

Read an article in Zoom magazine that mentioned BMW officials admitting discussions with Mark Skaife regarding joining the series. So no internet linky (sorry) but IMO it's a bit more solid than the usual "someone at Nissan said something about thinking about maybe joining the V8s". However, as someone else said, suspending oneself from one's appendage while waiting for this to come to pass would be unwise.

Thanks Scarface_au, yes there are some talks, and only talks at this stage.

Had I had a few less Bourbons before posting last night, I would have written the following: In a nutshell, under the old rules, no chance, under the Car of The Future rules, could absolutely happen, but only if BMW were prepared to,

Sorry for the rant, buit my first post was incorrect and after a little research I found the the COTF rules.

I still think that BMW have more to lose than it would be worth.

BMW and BENZ said that if the Car of the past...err....future rules line up the same as the Current DTM rules they would enter a team.

And Well, I doubt that will happen being that 1 DTM team would have the budget of the entire V8 supercab field

There's nothing wrong with Group C.......after all I grew up in the seventies! (my wife denies that I ever grew up)

Just kidding. (not about growing up in the seventies)

Oh BTW, BMW were very competitive in Group C with the 635CSi and 323i John Player Specials.

Granted they may not be to your taste but BMW have built some extremely fast cars over the decades.

Nothing that dominated their class like an R32 GTR, but always competitive.

I would love to see them race against each other, but if they are going to knobble them so that they are all equal, then apart from the advertising there's not much point, is there?

The BMW would just become a German V8 Supercab, no faster or slower than its rivals.

If however the inclusion of BMW was to force advances in the technology of the cars in the class, now that would be something else entirely.

Then they wouldn't just be 2011 cars with 1957 engines in them.

I think i speak for most who frequent here when I say I would rather a E30 M3 over an R35

You do realise this is the skylines forum? I'm not sure you're right in that assessment ... I personally would go R35 over a Beemer any day of the week. Not that I'd be disappointed with an M3, but if I could choose either...

yeah lol.. my uncle Frank races the XD army falcon...

Yeh i think there are still a couple of beemers.. well there used to be anywho that still race..

Yeah i know they have done some really good things... but i spose... each to their own.. just not my taste.. and i spose i dont know much about their history too..

I suppose im just against it because im a v8 girl.. and its always been holden and ford... i like it that way.. but i spose if it does happen... it will make it interesting... :D

yeah lol.. .

Well wtf are you doing in a skyline forummmm.

  • Nope 1

I hope the people banging the "variety" drum aren't actually serious as they are essentially moving from a 90% spec series forum to one that represents more like 100% which isn't racing its just a big marketing tool, well even more of a marketing tool then racing already is.

I am having a really difficult time holding back my enthusiasm though, imagine, we can have three different colours on the same car now instead of two !

Wacky doo....

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
    • roller coaster of a ride. Alarm system was removed & main harness was repaired where possible. still no fix just random successful starts. moved on to the replacing the ignition switch and relay. well all this troubleshooting & repair has been going on, the car is at a paint and body shop being pushed around. Ive been going down there on odd days after work to get it sorted.
