Hi!

I'm planning to buy a car within the year. I understand that I should also prioritise getting insurance to go with it. Did I get that right? Was also wondering if you have any tips/guidelines as to what I should and shouldn't get in a car insurance? Is there a specific insurance depending on the car I am going to get? How much should I expect if Skylines are involved?

Been on the hunt for car insurance and found this insurance directory, http://www.insuranceyellowpage.com/ . Haven't contacted them since I'd rather learn more info first from the consumers rather than the agents. Just want to make sure that I don't end up getting unnecessary stuff. :D

Thanks!

How old are you? If you're looking at performance Cars or even na skylines you really only have 2 - 3 options. Shannons will really only take over 25s but if you have an extremely clean record and are a paid member of a car club they might. Other options are RACV if they will take you... Just Car Insurance are touch and go with how good they are but they will cover pretty much anything for a price.

Either way much better to be covered in case say you hit a lamborghini...

Just putting this in there Just Car are DICKS, it might not be relevant but some late 30 year old woman was picking up her kid from school when she decided to cut in front of my on my motorcycle and have me run straight into her this was 6 months ago she's trying to dispute the claim and said I was trying "undertake" her which is BS cause it was a 2 lane road but just because the parked cars were taking up the left lane she assumed she could turn from the right. Which the on scene officer clearly pointed out (Which was quite funny really: "I thought it was 1 lane" "No it's two" "But the" "It's Two" "are you sure?" *silence*) ANYWAY your probably thinking how this relates to justcar well despite i have the POLICE REPORT saying its her fault and she obviously has paid the fine for it they are still trying to dispute it. Six months later my bike is still scratched, my leathers are scratched my helmets scratched just because those dicks wont admit fault. They keep telling my they wont take FULL responsibility but are willing to pay for some damages, I wish i could find the guy handling my case and show him what it feels like to get hit by a Land Cruiser on a motorcycle. That goes to say my car wont be re-insured with them again.

Not relevant for our cars, but I had a not-at fault claim with real insurance. The other driver attempted to dispute.

They said the other driver is wrong, paid out within 3 weeks and they'll sort out the other insurance company in there own time...

That said, I hate when other people deny liability when they clearly did something illegal. This guy was driving straight through a left turning lane overtaking traffic.

hello, shannons, i had an accident...

no problem sir, do you have a workshop you would like to take it to?

it's already at micolour

no worries, mick does great work, was it your fault?

no, my car was parked at the time

ok, we'll take care of it from here, no need to pay excess, have a nice day.

^ ^ ^ exactly the same here! ^ ^ ^ word to word the same conversation and replies...

except my response was "no, my car was stopped at a set of lights and the truck behind me decided to go as he was watching the traffic elsewhere"

no problems, have a nice day

Is there an insurance ombudsman? if there is call them, when i had a problem with a telco i rang em, spent 5 minutes explaining the story they decided i was in the right, gave me a case number and a special number that got straight through to the telco and it was all sorted in minutes!

just buy a cheaper import worth only 6K or 7K... then just get 3rd party fire and theft... otherwise you'll be paying 1-2K a year to insure a car worth under 10K... no point IMO... drive carefully and make sure if you crash its not your fault and your sweet

I had my GTSt for 6 years, only had full comp for the first year and after that just 3rd party... its a risk but I was doing motorsport which is even riskier and your never insured on a track

if your looking at getting a 30K GTR then yeah, get full comp

    • Nah, they'll do it without a receipt, tell em roughly when it was, that it was cash, youll likely only get store credit, but that gets you some dollars towards the newer better shovel, or other item you need/want later.   Still take it back and have a crack at returning it.
    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
