tones Posted March 15, 2011 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Just wondering if anyone could tell me what is the difference between r32 gtst (sumitomo) and r32 gtr/ 33 gtst calipers to allow the larger discs? I did do a search but had no luck. I know you can get a spacer to allow the larger disc with the 32gtst ones but I was trying to avoid spacers and they seem pretty pricey for what they are. Beer Baron Posted March 16, 2011 Share Posted March 16, 2011 yeah the caliper mount lugs are different. obviously the GTR ones are longer so accommodate the 296mm rotor over the GTST 280mm rotor. getting a spacer to convert from 280mm to 296mm is not so great as it's only an 8mm change in radius, so since the spacer is so short you have to offset the caliper. my advice is either get 32 GTR calipers (pretty cheap) and run the 296mm rotors, or keep your GTST calipers and get the caliper spacer to run R33 GTR 324mm rotors. that is a nicer upgrade with a rotor that is quite a bit bigger than the GTST rotor. Just out of curiousity what's around in the way of parts to rebuild calipers? Are pistons and seals available and at what sort of prices? Beer Baron Posted March 22, 2011 Share Posted March 22, 2011 yeah pistons and seals available from nissan. you can get a rebuild kit which is seals and dust boots pretty cheap. alternatively buy the project mu 32 GTR rebuild kit. it comes with nice alloy pistons which are lighter and a seal kit too. from memory it's around $400 for the full kit (includes 8 pistons). it's good value and will mean your calipers will be like brand new again for $400 and a few hours work. Even though all these calipers look more or less the same, the GTR ones and the R33+ ones don't seem to flex the same as the R32 ones do.
