So much easier to use the housing the gears were meant for, otherwise you're up for the added cost of new pinion bearings/seals etc as you must use the pinion gear that matches the crownwheel.

When I changed to 3.9:1 ratios I put my 2-way centre into the S13 housing that came with the 3.9:1 gears.

I have a whole r32 diff and a whole r33 diff. Is it possible to put the r33 centre and pinion bearing into the r32 housing? Not sure if the pinion can be moved across...

Or else I will have to do what bubba said and install the r33 housing with r32 rear. If I take this route, what do I do about the different sized front mounting holes? Get some solid diff mounts? If so, I assume I will need longer mounting bolts?

Thanks.

Lol this sort of question comes up every week. The manual 33 gtst diff will have a ratio of 4.1:1 just incase u didnt know.

to change to this ratio you cant just put the 33 center in the 32 housing. The 33 crown wheel on the 33 center is matched to the pinion gear in the front of the housing.

pulling pinion out is a pain and if you dont have a press and cant afford bearings and seals I wouldnt bother. Im sick of playing with f**king skyline diffs and I know what im doing.

If the cover plate from the 32 diff fits on the 33 housing u could go that way.

at the front you could posibly find some bushes to fit the big holes in the front ears on the 33 diff. I dont think u will be able to use 33 bolts at the front because they are 2 mm bigger than 32 from memory.

All make sense?

Both models have the same bolt pattern on the half shaft/drive shaft. Now I assume t he spline count is the same also.

If some one can clarify that the half shafts are the same length in both models then you could possibly just swap rear cover plate and use two large washers and rubbers bushes at the front of the diff.

If half shafts are different lengths then they might be able to be swapped for the 32 items.

Yeah I know the r33 gtst ratio is 4.11:1. I have a rb25 so that ratio will be better suited. Thanks for clarifying what is involved in changing the pinion. Looks like I will get solid bushes for the front mounts and longer bolts if needed.

One other question I have is regarding the rear cover. The studs on my cover are stuffed. I have another r32 cover, however it appears to be a non hicas one, can this be used (have a hicas lock bar installed)? It looks like the hicas cover has an indentation for the hicas rack to sit in(for extra support?). The non hicas cover fits, however will it cause an issue having the bar not supported by the diff?

The covers should swap over fine, halfshaft splines should also be the same if the 32 diff was a VLSD. I had to use my 32 halfshafts when I put the shimmed 32 VLSD into the wagon as the wagons' open centre halfshafts were tiny.

As for the non-hicas cover, it's been a while since I've been under there but doesn't the rack/bar bolt to the subframe? it's not supported by the diff cover at all.. probably just longer fins on the hicas equipped cover.. the bar isn't going to move at all in relation to the diff housing so if you can bolt everything OK, all good

Just had a thought... 33 has 12 mm crown wheel bolts and 32 has 10 mm. so you cant put a crown wheel from one onto the center of the other from memory.

if u want this 33 diff in your car I would just put 32 cover plate on the back of it and have a play around at the front ears to mount it. dont bother building a bastard from two different diffs if you can help it.

Pretty sure you can buy adapter kits which are just basically a bunch of sleeves, or make some.

The other option if you want 4.1 ratio is get a 32 GTR diff, will have to upgrade axles and hubs too but then you get the benefit of a 2-way mechanical centre.

Pretty certain you have to change hubs. I got my 2-way back when our dollar was really good against the yen, if I was to do it nowadays, I would opt to go for a GTR setup.. whole subframe most likely but that also means new rear shocks.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
