What is your LPG fuel consumption.

Driving style

Mostly sedate.

At what rpm is a standard turbo supposed to kick in?

Apoprox 90% highway and 10 % city.

I average 6.1 km/litre.

I think I have a LPG consumption problem. What do you think?

You have the svi system right?

I got the jtg system and I'm getting around 5-6 km per litre, or around 18 to 20 litres per 100km mostly city driving lol. And my system is supposed to be better then svi. Go figure...

I have my 1000km service this week. Hope they find a leak...

got JTG here too.. getting about 17L per 100 all city.. little bit better with propane.. if i give it a hard time i can get up to about 20.. no big deal.. 56c per litre to fill.. im thinking about putting it on a dyno to check mixtures cause i reckon its running rich.. if it is then its more power and economy to come. anyways loving my gas especially with all this middle east unrest.

Hey Sage I was down at Seaview the other day getting my 1000km "service"...they mentioned you were there the day before.

Darren said he's looking to put our cars on a 4wd dyno and fine tune the gas? Did you ever get back to you?

I'm looking at getting bigger gas jets/calibrators so I can run higher boost...

first ive heard of it mate.. would love to organise it.. maybe we could do both our cars at the same time? mine has been flawless other than occasional misses on the freeway.. they believe that the gas could be vaporising in the lines.. 1 line feeding 1 bank is pretty close to the turbo so they are going to shield it for me..

hmmm...I've had quite alot of issues. Never mind it seems its drinking the stuff at 20L/100km, but every morning when I start the car during the LPG switchover my car will stall without fail.

It will also stall/splutter/cough during switchover randomly. I've learnt to not drive the car until switchover is complete and the AFM is showing proper figures. There's been a couple of close calls when I started driving, then the gas kicked in and the car stalling on me...:yucky:

TBH its more of an annoyance....I can't complain too much doing 250awkw @ 57c per Litre....

jesus 250awkw.. sounds like our cars are not very much alike! mine only has a dump pipe nothing more.. my cutover to gas is usually completely seamless.. about 1 in 10 i will see a dip in revs for a split second though never stalled and only once came close when i was reversing up hill on a cold morning.. the guy out at seaview did say our cars were very different.. mine is a 11 month 2003.. whats your manuf date?

Just recently I have a high pitched beeping

sound in the M35 stagea, while driving.

It happens when the LPG indicator is on and petrol indicator is on at the same time.

it might happen aftr 25 minutes driving or 5 minutes driving,

Swicth to petrol and the noise disappears until you switch back to LPG.

Some hesitation also occurring when taking off at the lights.

Whats the cause.

How do you fix,

Is it going to do any damage and if so exactly what?

Hesitation will be running lean or rich, no way to tell without getting a wideband on it... Get it on a dyno or take it back to the LPG mob, there may be an issue with the reg or one of the injectors is blocked? LPG has a gooey substance as part of it, my dads patrol used to block up solenoids all the time, partly why I will never touch it. Perhaps it just needs a service?

I'm pretty sure he's running sequential vapor...

Yes I am running SVI.

A faulty water temperature sensor appears to be the problem,which will be replaced in a few days.

Apparently when 2 lights come on ,on the fuel gauge,

it indicates a fault and reverts to petrol.I have an EMER system.

Anyone else come across this problem?

I used to get hesitation at takeoff In the factory gas ford

Turned out to be the gas Itself causes wax build up

More noticeable when I used bp gas. They steam clean the solenoids or something then good until next service

Any updates on LPG fuel consumption?

On a Melbourne -Brisbane return trip I got around 13.9 litre/100km, with luggage on the roof on my return trip with 4 passengers and luggage loaded with family.

The modification of a dump pipe seems to have given it acceleration like a rocket with the turbo winding up much earlier !

You guys getting 17-20 litres/100 (city cycle) seems a little high with the more efficient engine and more efficient liquid and vapour injection systems.

I have the age old Gas Research system on my C34 series 2 Stagea (R34 motor), and still get reasonably good fuel economy for a straight gas and 1850+ kg turbo wagon.

Highway cycle about 14.5 l/100

City cycle about 17.5l/100

The best I ever got was 12.5 l/ 100 on a trip.

A lot has to do with tuning and refining the a/f ratios across the rev range, I know my tuner spent a lot of time on the road and dyno doing this. I regularly go back say every 12 months for a check and adjustment of tune as part of the normal service schedule.

From my experience, a lot of tuners will set it up safe and rich, too rich for my liking, and there's really no need to be so conservative if the system has been selected, installed and tuned properly. Most of the LPG installers don't specialise in tuning either, so good to ask some important questions beforehand, including the forecast fuel economy.

At that power level, I can see why you are getting around 20L/100!

Take it back to the place that installed it and get the changeover looked at, is it still under warranty?

That is a big safety concern on the road.

Curb weight for a c34 is 1650kg not 1850+kg

Might be correct for a factory C34 4WD on petrol, but with the added LPG gear and me in my car, it is close to 1850kg.

I'm a realist and always take the total laden weight on the road into consideration, as it is this minimum weight that the car needs to haul to enable a fuel consumption calculation. You may be different.

I see plenty of Australian Standard stickers on new cars boasting fuel economy of xl/100, but is it really obtainable? No, it isn't. Reading the basis of how these tests are conducted is an eye opener, they are not conducted under real world conditions at all.

    • At least yours have parkour down pat. One of mine will still trip over his own shadow and fall over... He's a special type of cat... Ha ha ha
    • The question then becomes - was there any fluid coming from that hole before you did the rebuild ?    You may not have noticed, of course.   Depending on how you did the rebuild, the possibility has to be considered that somehow (cleaning ?)  fluid entered that hole and is now being 'forced'  out by small movements of the proportioning valve.   From the factory, there's actually a small rubber plug in that hole but with age and under-bonnet heat it's quite common for it to 'go missing'.  That rubber plug is designed to allow the venting process but also to prevent 'stuff' getting to the area (prevent corrosion, etc).   The plug is also not available as a spare part AFAIA. Personally I wouldn't race and buy a new master just yet but keep an eye on the area to see if the 'leak' continues.   If you're concerned about brake fluid damaging nearby paintwork, cable tie a piece of suitable absorbant material over the hole and remove/monitor occasionally.    Operation of the proportioning valve and the brake master itself won't be affected, but also keep an eye on brake fluid level, of course. In terms of a new master, the genuine part is getting expensive, unfortunately.  Amayama is showing AUD900+.   I was searching recently and there's an aftermarket part available from Japan made by 'Parts Assist': https://zenmarket.jp/en/yahoo.aspx?q=BNR32%2bBM50&p=1 Whether it's any good I have no idea, although in my experience Japanese aftermarket stuff is pretty good quality-wise.   The above site allows overseas buyers to purchase stuff more easily from Japan but there are fees and shipping costs, of course.   The original Japanese seller page is here: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p1197401228 Copper/Nickel is fine but I still prefer bundy tube and it's also cheaper.
