I was looking at the gt3076 kit at gcg for $2990 but not sure if it's worth the extra $1000

Brand new genuine Garrett GT3076R

with the exchange rate it would be less than the GCG highflow even with postage. You can run the wastegate directly off the exhaust housing and plumb it back into your dump. It will easy make 300kw at 20 psi but you will need a wastegate, injectors, z32afm and a nistune. Stock manifolds will be fine although you may need a 10mm spacer for the turbo.

And just as an aside - our local turbo guru prefers bush bearings! -Says they are more reliable and much cheaper to rebuild.

It is looking like a good option, will it be big enough for 400hp?

Hell no. PM sent. You want 400hp, take note below.

I've had stock turbo, high flow, HKS 2530, and now Garrett 3076 ... and I say don't mess about and do straight to the 3076.

The 2530 will run out of breath. Always found myself wanting to grab the next gear, before anywhere near the redline, because the turbo was running out of breath. My 3076 just keeps pulling and pulling thru the revs. You WILL NOT be disappointed with the 3076. 2530 will not get you big HP, the 3076 will. Invest your money in a new 3076, rather than second hand (unknown condition) 2530.

There are a fair few Z32 AFMs getting around now on SAU and Ebay for the $100 mark. And I also picked up a new set of 555cc injectors for Neo motor for under $600 ... I can give you the details of the bloke who got them for me. Together with a Nistune (or other aftermarket ecu) you can chase big power (depending on your exhaust and other mods of course). So all up $2700 got me 252rwkw, or 338hp at the wheels ... thats like $8 per hp.

My tuner finished off my tune on thursday actually, and I'm getting 252.6rwkw @ 16psi. Tuner wanted to go to 18psi as he reckoned 280rwkw was easily attainable with a bit more time ... thats 375rwhp, so not far from your target power!

I'm told my 3076 can go to and hold 22psi ... thats around the 320rwkw mark ... thats 428rwhp in the old language.

Get a new (under warranty) 3076. Enuff said :P

Ok so after reading stuff I've got a list sorted out, rough prices if I find them cheaper that's even better, gt3076 $2950, z32 $300, nistune $800, sard injectors $???. I've already got a k&n panel filter ( it sucks the xmas tree clips and bonnet lining in so I might need a pod ) , hks 3" high power cat back/+ custom drift pipes if I want, jjr stealth front mount. Anything else I will need?

What's with the VW? Is that the alternative?!!

What do you get from GCG for $2990?

The GT3076R from the link above (NZ Performance ) works out at AU$1662.00 at the current exchange rate so even with postage and tax (if any) I would think there would be a decent saving.

If for some reason you must have an Australian supplier try sending this guy an email before you fork out $3K:

sorry i added the wrong image code, thats my wifes car, was supposed to be the turbo still together lol. but anyway, i did consider that gt3076 from nz but its an extermal gated turbo and i cant really afford to shell out for a new manifold/dump pipe

my dad is pushing me toward sthe gt3076 kit form gcg, and it looks like the easiest option aprt from getting my turbo turned into a 30/76 at mtq

my only problem really with the gcg setup is i need to buy a new dump pipe as its a 5 bolt rear not a 6 bolt.

GCG should be supplying one in that price. You do not want to compromise with a non-garrett turbine housing if you want to get the best results.

ive got a bellmouth dump so i cant use the dump that comes with it without buying/making a new pipe.

zebra - when you spin a ball bearing turbo backward they seize. ive seen it happen twice.

cre8tor - the beetle is quicker then my stagea :/

It is looking like a good option, will it be big enough for 400hp?

my mate had a forged 33 running the same turbo with all the supporting mods

280rwkw on about 17psi i think

so i'd guess so cos thats 375hp

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
