My ahhh doctor gives me some sometimes aswell. and my neighbor gives me hose. loljkswat.

seriously but. dislike cancer. have had it in the family and i have spoken to my doctor and done ALOT of research on how to prevent it as i am at a higher risk of liver cancer (hep c positive) and i am glad i have done the research.

it is hard to keep on top of everything but just living a healthy lifestyle and diet. i don't drink alcohol, take headache tablets or other unnecessary tablets, have never done hard drugs. my only problem is i prob have a few to many diet cokes but i am cutting down on them alot now i dont work fulltime.

basically i live by the fact that i could be unlucky enough to get it, but if i do, ill fight the f**k out of it and live my life best i can.

terry, any tips on prevention that can be easily Incorporated into a daily lifestyle?

Hi Gus,

For general liver health > eating globe artichoke, drinking dandelion tea, taking milk thistle or St Marys thistle is wise + abstain from alcohol and animal fats as best you can

For liver cancer prevention > getting some 5mg Melatonin sublingual tablets (suck 2-3 under tongue at bedtime for a couple of minutes before swallowing)

That's all I know ATM > need to research some more for you.

Look up Gus how many cancers that melatonin can prevent or improve on!

Yes the most common known usage is to help circadian rhythms of sleep and prevent jet lag; but there's so much more...

In your daily diet, get some "apricot kernels" from an Asian Grocery shop. They look like almond kernels - but they are not the same.

They must be "apricot kernels" and have up to 10/day. They are cheap.

They contain Vit B17 or Laetrile which helps to prevent cancer in a broad spectrum fashion.

Hunza people live very long lives with exceedingly low rates of cancer - and part of their diet is eating the apricot kernels from the apricots they export.

Hope this helps...

what's the chinese name for these "apricot kernels"?

i'd be concerned about cyanide though.

Even almonds contain arsenic.

The cyanidins in apricot kernels are too small when you consider that one should only take enough kernels to reflect how much fruit one would have in any one day.

But more of course if cancer is nigh > without going crazy on them.

A bit of a long watch this one but it goes into the vitamin B17 thing a bit more

So to prevent...

Skin Cancer > taking melatonin

Liver Cancer > taking milk thistle and apricot kernels

Prostate Cancer > taking pumpkin seeds

Bladder Cancer > taking cranberries

Bowel Cancer > taking willow bark

Stomach Cancer > taking neem

Why do I not have any money left in the bank? > Become a Naturopath > A legit Dealer >_< lol

...and if I were a girl...

Breast Cancer > I'd take tofu

Ovarian Cancer > resveratrol in red grapes

Cervical Cancer > vaccine or chaste tree bark (with premature cellulite as a marker)

Umm...

Pancreatic Cancer > a painful one > I'll have to look that one up. It killed Steve Jobs and Patrick Swayzey eh?

A few mentions on melatonin here.

There's a lot of information out there on the supposed link between good melatonin levels in the body and reduced risk of cancer; does this mean there's a link between the natural sunlight we get (or are supposed to get) and natural melanin / melatonin production, and therefore reduced risk of cancer?

Do people that do shift work or spend inordinate amounts of time indoors need to take melatonin supplements as a preventative measure?

Frustrating for those of us who read the papers / watch TV advising us to slip slop slap, stay indoors etc but so many of us apparently are vitamin D deficient; so go outdoors and make sure you get some sun; just not too long... and so on.

Yes limited sunlight & graveyard shifts reduce one's immune system through impaired D3 and Melatonin production. Even reflected sunlight is good. But most window films are not so.

Supplementation of 10-20mg/day according to Hyperhealth prevents...

Cancer of...

Brain

Breast

Colon

Endometrium

Kidney

Liver

Lung

Ovary

Prostate

of various types as well as Melanomas

I didn't know that there were over 6 different types of breast cancer till 3 yes ago.

SAUer and family man "portaz" has just been told that he's suffering from a brain cancer (albeit slow growing) called a "glioma".

Are there any Drs here on SAU who can comment??? New innovations???

The famous oncologist Prof Chris O'Brien contracted a glioma but alas, is no longer with us.

I had a 6 month period where I had extremely low vitamin d deficiency from pretty much never being outside for long.

I got sick sooooo much and it actually started effecting my nervous system. I just felt out of it, like an epic hangover, for a month or so and I had trouble understanding people and processing what they said when they spoke to me. Memory went out the window, I pretty much had "brain fog".

It was actually really worrying for me at the time because i didn't know what was wrong. After a heap of blood and neurological tests, i just had to get out in the sun and take supplements and I came good within a month or less.

Would need more info. Gliomas range from grade 1 through 4, each with vastly different prognosis. Unfortunately there are no new innovations. The current treatment is resection (removal via surgery) followed by radiation therapy and chemo (temozolomide)

I can recommend a great surgeon if he is in sydney.

"Jon Mannah's death linked to peptides" reads the Tele front page.

Q. Could this be so? Can it happen to you?

On the info I have...

A. "Link" yes - "Cause" of Hodgkins lymphoma no

A. High protein diets as well as supplements are known to accelerate cancers rather than cause them. Peptides by my old definition are chains of amino acids, ranging from 2-49. Over 50 in a chain, and you have a protein.

A. Synthetically produced peptides I don't have a clue about, regarding acceleration of rogue cell production or apoptosis; or even a conversion of a benign cell into a malignant one.

Moral. If one contracts cancer, switch from any high protein diet to one primarily of fruit and veg.

I hate working on Oncology wards. I worked on one and ran for the hills- too much effort gowning and gloving for pretty much every room but it seems you can't escape them. Most general wards I've worked on are full of people on Chemo and Cardiac patients.

I've lost heaps of patients to Cancer, I only remember those with an interesting story.

One was a 16/17 year old and the other was a man who's wife did not leave his side. She pretty much moved into the hospital for 6 months so we had put them in a private room and set up a little space for her to continue working.

This man was a non smoker, non drinker and loved organic foods. I don't think I ever saw him eat/drink anything else but fruits, veg and water. He didn't even own a car, he rode a push bike!

They say smoking causes Cancer, and had photos of that 70's porn star looking guy plastered all over the packets but they forgot to mention that the guy in the pictures actually died of radiation (before radiation therapy was perfected) what they fail to mention is its actually WORST to inhale second hand smoke because the chemicals in cigarettes become most active and dangerous at cooler temperatures.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
