MP_R33
Hey guys might be a bit of a noob question buut the other day I was driving and managed to here a grinding noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I think it was because I wasnt concentrating and the clutch was not all the way depressed. It was around 3500RPM and lasted about 1 second Have I caused any damage to the box or syncros by doing so. Is it worth changing the tranny oil or? Never have done this before so I am not quite sure. BstewyR33
a hard grinding? or cleaning the teeth grinding?? if the latter - i wouldn't stress too much over it, just try not to do it too often. Its only worth changing the oil if its due for a change, or if you don't know when its due for a change, so you do one as a precaution then get back to the normal drain interval. Birds
Will be fine mate. Too much of it will wear out your synchros though. That sound you heard was the dog teeth grinding against each other because you hadn't clutched in properly. Unless your synchros start making noise regularly on gear changes you have nothing to worry about. MP_R33
Ye temporary brain fade... I didn't slam it in, as soon as it grinded I am pretty sure it went back into neutral and then I put it into 3rd again. Reason I asked was I thought there might be some metal shavings in the oil and well its never happened before so I didnt know what damage I had caused. mad082
if it was just a quick grind you have nothing to worry about. you could do it once a day for a few weeks and the damage would still be minimal.
