Hey guys,

I know I'll probably cop a few words from you lot, but I need some convincing about switching to full comp insurance lol.

I'm currently on 3rd party, fire & theft with Just Car paying $500 a year with a $2000 excess. But been thinking about switching to Shannons' full comp due to heaps of Skylines being stole lately lol.

Shannons quoted me $1670 a year with a $900 excess for full comp, which works out to $140 a month with a $20,000 agreed value..

Which one should I choose?.. >_<

hey charles...i only had 3rd party on my GTT and it turned into a shit fight. and being in above average condition like mine was you will always feel like ur being ripped off if anything happened when u only have 3rd party and it has to go through someone elses insurance....since iv got the rx-7 i decided to go comprehensive this time, just makes you feel a lot safer when you drive it and leave it anywhere.

you've spent a fair bit of time and money on your car so id definatly go comprehensive and like you said skyline theft seems to be happening a lot. everytime i come on here there is another thread about someones skyline being stolen

Man, I wouldn't even consider having less than comprehensive insurance. $700 a year for me :P

...... Who are you with?.. And how old are you? lol

Yeah.. Fair enough, I'm definitely leaning towards full comp lol. $20,000 is definitely better than $8000-9000 if it gets stolen or written off..

If you're under 25 full comp for ~$1600 is good, my first year with just car was $3000 second, $1900 third year at 21y/o was $1600 or $1900 with $1,000 excess which was pretty good considering my echo is $1000 full comp

Just Cars is your friend - use the adJUST function to bring down your excess = laughing.

Just pray you don't have an accident that's your fault :P

Fire and theft on a third party policy usually only covers you for $5k worth of damage.

I don't get it, you have 3rd party, fire and THEFT, and you want to change to full comp because of all the Skyline's being stolen?

Glad someone else spotted it Spose he means he will get more if is stolen and full comp insuro.

what is your THEFT pay out figure right now

its usually the simple question

would you walk around with 20k in back pocket and "hope" no one takes it

and if they do take it, would you care?

a) YES - get full comp

b) NO - stay as is

i know i'd be pissed if i had my car stolen and only 3rd party

insurance is there for a good reason

most of the people who put "stole car look out for" threads and REALLY REALLY want their car back

are people without full comp insurance

if you have full comp insurance and its flogged who cares

as long as the payout is reasonable away you go

full comp also helps you if someone rams you and drives off

or its unclear who is at fault, instead of being stuck with 10k bill you can get your car fixed

$50 a week for N/A four door? Fuck me.

Hey Moh...I've got a history of smashing cars, insurance claims and losing my licence...I'm on $900 a year full comp for a turbo coupe.

umad?

Just to clear things up...

Yes, I've got 3rd party fire & theft, but that's with Just Car and they ONLY cover up to $10,000 market value PLUS you gotta pay excess... Which means if my car gets stolen, and if they are kind enough to pay me the full $10,000, I'll end up walking away with like $8,000 or something after excess..

Where as, with Shannons, $20,000 agree value with NO theft excess..

Just Car is shit... I just got an online quote from them, $2,000 premium with $1850 excess for market value, THEN I adjusted the adJUST crap, made my excess to like $3,000, and even then, my premium woulda been $1,400 lol...

This is going to suck for me when I get a skyline. I'm only 19 and I've never had a car in my name -.- lol. I guess you've got to pay to play, though. The peace of mind would be great for me, as I plan on using the car as a daily so the chances of it getting pranged/pinched are higher than your weekend cruiser.

$50 a week for N/A four door? f**k me.

yeah, im jelly.. who u with?

If you think you're gonna get your car stolen, get full comp...

I'll be getting 3rd party for my next car though. + wheelclamp + clublock + loose wheel nuts..

this idea, concept and your countermeasures are flawed

forget countermeasures, forget if you "think"

its a simple case of

at some point in time, regardless of why/how/when/where/who/what

your car will be stolen or written off or mangled by someone else

the key question is can you afford to loose the market value of your car - ie lets say 18k

if yes, then no need for insurance or 3rd party

if no, then get full comp

forget the other crap its flawed and youll only end up pissed off when something happens

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
