I am trying to sort out my brakes for some up coming track days, but cant decide whats pads to get.

I currently have ebc redstuff and they armt really suited to track work at all, and after boiling my fluid at winton im pretty sure the pads are cooked to.

Im upgrading to gtr rotors but keeping the standard 4 pot 32 calipers, I was going to go 33 calipers but it seems like a waste of time as they arnt really that much bigger.

So what pads do I get? The car will be 50/50 track and street so im not fussed about noise or dust.

That was one thing about the redstuffs that annoyed me, how can u have a low dust pad thats meant to be any good? Id rather a high dust high temp pad thatll actually stop the car on the track.

I have searched but there is so much misinfomation out there, 1 guy loves yellowstuffs yet another had them fall apart on the track.

I just want a pad thatll not destroy my rotors and be able to handle sprints.

Cheers.

my car has been 50/50 track & street for awhile now, QFM A1RM is the only way to roll!

Aus made, great value $120ish for front and same for rear. bit dusty, little noisy but they are great, they outlast my fluid everytime. work from 0 up till 780ish.

dont eat rotors too bad.

can't recomend them highly enough.

my local track is small (200kays tops on the back straight), but still, 350kw's and 1400 kg's plus they always hang in there

EBC's make good paper weights

You say you are upgrading to GTR rotors but keeping the standard 32 GTST calipers; are you getting adapters for the calipers to fit the larger discs? The 33 calipers may not be larger, but the attachment points suit the larger 296mm rotors, whereas the 32 calipers only suit the 280mm disc.

On topic: I am also a fan of the A1RM's for the standard brakes on a street/track car.

A1RM,s, they do get a bit noisy when on the street but after a bit of work are good to go and quite again for a couple of hundred K,s on the street.

With DBA 4000 rotors they have been faultless, albeit I only do springs.

Yes I have got brackets from Unique auto sports

Thought it was easier to use brackets and standard calipers rather then upgrading calipers, although its prob the same $$$, plus Im going 324mm rotors so not sure if they will work with 33 gtst calipers anyways.

I'm just hoping itll be enough so solve the issues i had last time at winton, I actually didnt realise that the redstuff's arnt actually a track pad, which IMO makes them a pointless pad as why would you bother with them for street when there are cheaper pads out there that atleast will brake when cold, I hate how the redstuff's are crap when cold and still crap when the get hot >_<

I'm going to be using race fluid so with the bigger rotors to should be a good combo, I hope.

In regards DBA 4000's I'm honestly to scared to buy them haha, I've heard to many stories of them cracking, shopping around for some rda golds.

My choice of pads isn't real cheap but they are very good and look after your rotors too. Try pagid rs14 or rs19. They're excellent.

Having said that I have for sale some used Project Mu hatted rotors to r32 GTR. Lots of guys that were cracking DBA's have not had probs with these. Mine haven't done lots of work either. Also have GTR calipers and brand new Endless pc35's still in their box.

Hi Paul,

Just replied to your PM!

FYI for everyone else:

GTR 324mm rotors in the Gold Slotted and Dimpled are $509 for the pair, but I read you're doing track work with the car, so I wouldn't recommend the dimpled rotors. Either just stick to normal RDA Slotted $375 for the pair, or go to something like a 4000 Series DBA Slotted which are a higher carbon content rotor which will both last longer, and perform better at elevated temperatures. All the issues they had with hairline cracks have been resolved with their new slot pattern. DBA Slotted to suit are $198 each, and are also good for track work as they have the thermal marking paint to monitor your temperatures.

A1RM to suit GTST calipers are $119 per set front or rear.

The fluid that we use and recommend is the TRW GP600 Dot 4 Racing Brake Fluid, which is $65 for a 1L bottle, and rated to 312 degrees dry.

Shipping to Vic would be $22.

Any other questions just let me know!

Regards,

Greg

Any issues with the rotors bubba?

I'm pretty much set on getting the QFM pads as I've heard nothing but good things about them.

My only concern with the DBA 4000's is cracking, if there gonna crack on the track thats a bit of a concern.

Have DBA sorted this out 100% with there new design?

justjap have two piece rotors, attacked branded (ksport/g4/d2). I'm not sure if that price is for 2 rotors, or just the single. As the single price is the same as dba5000, but it says 'kit' so I would think the 2 of them.

A1RM for the occasional track day, maybe 1 a month. You may get 2x track days and street km out of a front set of A1RM. Anymore track action than that, look at PMu HC+ or run a street pad then swap em out for PMu clubspec. Also look at EBC blue stuff, 4 of us running ksport brakes with these pads on the front. They work on the street, not very well from cold and I think they would be pretty harsh on the rotors. But I get at least 5 track days out of a set of blues on the front and driving to and from the track.

What track days are you looking at going to?

Yea I saw the attacked brand rotors, I searched and there is no info at all on them so who knows where there made or the quality.

I'm basically setting up the car for sprints, so mostly going to Winton. If I can do between 5-10 track days a year plus deca's I'll be happy.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
