Hi Guys,

I bought myself an R31 with the following mods

RB30/25DET

3inch turbo back

Splitfire coils

Stock AFM

PowerFC

Eboost2 Controller

R33 GB

4.11 Full Spool

At the moment i am running the stock RB25 turbo and have been told to change it as A it is tool small for the engine size and B it is known to fall apart. I am running it 11 pound boost at the moment but I want to do a lot of track days in it and i don't want any dramas.

Should i have my current turbo rebuilt using no ceramic materials or B replace it with a different model. If so i have absolutely no idea about Turbos so which model do people usually run. I am looking for something that will be a straight swap while keeping my current exhaust manifold. I was told that a XR6 Turbo fits straight in. Could this be confirmed? I am not chasing big power over my current setup but whatever extra I get is a bonus. I am also a fan low down boost.

Cheers

Be it myself I would want to give the Hypergear ATR43 G3 a go on a 30DET.

They do a neat 300kw on an RB25, should be nice responsive on a 30DET too.

Pretty sure they are close to a grand too, and use the factory dump pipes flange etc.. So its very easy to bolt up. XR6 will need a custom dump and not be as responsive.

I've got a custom highflow from Per4manz, supposed to be good for 400rwhp and handle 24psi.

It's almost as responsive as a stock turbo! 3rd gear with 1/4 throttle I'm seeing positive pressure by 2500rpm and 10psi by 3000rpm. In 5th gear at 1800rpm, start to feed it some gas and it's in positive pressure pretty much instantly!

Only started it on the weekend, rich as hell, putting some km's on it (car has been off the road for 18months so making sure everything works!) and will get it tuned soon then report back :D

I had a chat with Grant about the high flows he does. I didn't end up getting one done as he said it was going to cost $1400. He said they are very similar to TO4E specs and do their best work at 16 psi. $1400 is almost half of a 'proper' external setup so I went with that. Will be good to see some results with it tho. What computer are you using?

Well it came with my wagon, got Grant to rebuild it for a VERY good price before I put it in the 32 (also going from a 2.5L to a 3L was very interesting with this turbo).

RB20 NIStune (R32 RB25DE head) :)

Can't wait to get it tuned, feels like it's going to be an absolute ball tearer!

I think it will go pretty good. Especially on a 3L. It will come on boost quicker than a honeymooners dick on wedding night  Are you tuning it yourself or putting it on the dyno?

It was a tad laggy in the wagon but on the 3L it feels pretty awesome!

I was trying to tune it myself but my consult cable died on the weekend :( I have also come to the realisation that I know enough to be dangerous and that my best course of action will be to pay someone who knows what they're doing to tune it and then go through the maps to try and learn something.

I love my t78-33D

This is with no boost controller.

Only a .7 bar wastegate spring

Rev limit set to 6,000 rpm

Custom diff long gears.

I never went pass 5.500 rpm

Trust me what most talk about this turbos are just non sense

This one has 5yrs with me

Thanks Koe,

Are you running an SR20 or RB?

Also what do you use your car for. The reason I ask is that I'm starting to do circuit events and the car is already as tail happy as it is. So I am not after any more shear horsepower (For the time being anyway) I am just after similar to stock RB25 turbo running 11PSI and power that comes on early and revs to 7000 as the engine does at the moment.

Posted elsewhere but here you go, the biggest highflow that would fit in stock housings (OP6 rear housing). Stock 30E bottom end so rev limit set to 6000rpm and also 3.9:1 diff gears. Only running 10psi on a shitty tune..

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
