just so happens that some silly goon by the name of Fabs32 is getting married that day, otherwise id be there!

this is a huge step in the right direction, get amongst it lads!

Craig can I borrow the Ceffy? I promise I will do the biggest warmup skid that Rundle Street has ever seen......

Whoops, I meant drag strip. :whistling:

Be interesting to hear Terry O'Toole's response re his big proposed project at the end of Maurice Road, Murray Bridge...."Cougar International Raceway" 1/4 mile "ANDRA" approved with new stands and grassed mounds.

He's just waiting for the green light which is apparently a done deal.......he says that asphalt will be laid within 3 mths of the OK

http://www.cougar-raceway.com.au/

EDIT: and if both Cougar and AIR go ahead, what happens to them if and when the Gillman site gets up and running......I've heard that it will never go through because of the housing at Newport Quays but after speaking to someone who has involvement with the private consortium boys, my mail tells me that it's a done deal once there's a change of govt. Even as far as the Port Mayor being right behind the project and the land being offered for sale rather than a ridiculous 99 year lease deal...which is a perfect world scenario

my guess is the first to go under would be...."Cougar International Raceway" then tough call. seems that we have had none for years then maybe in the newxt few upto 3 strips. Just one would be fantastic think two or three would be too many

If the Gillman site does go ahead, it will see the end of Cougar, no doubt.

The Gillman site will cater to many different styles of motorsport....including boats.

AIR may have a chance of survival even with Gillman around if it gets the right mix of cars coming over (ie international top fuel & jet cars) and due to its proximity to the CBD

Just my opinion

yeah whatever happens though, Adrian is right, we need to get behind AIR after all the noise we've been making for a drag strip.....if not just to get up the nose of Rann/Labour Party and show them the level of interest in the state and how far behind we are to other states

The strip was originally shut down when ANDRA changed the regs regarding the amount of run off needed for it to be certified as a 1/4 mile track. I'm not sure that there is enough area owned by the track to allow the run off needed. Also the orientation of the track is wrong and in the past the top level meetings had to be stopped in the late afternoon until the sun has set.

From what I have heard lately, I think you will find (if it ever comes out) that the reason why the consortium has had a hard time getting a track up and running has more to do with the consortium itself that the government not wanting to support motor sport (or those hoon drivers). Had the consortium been made up of different people there's a chance we would be already racing.

will be keen when its 1/4 mile, sitting at the end of the track when cars are doing 250kph+ is epic and also ive never done 1/4 mile

hope they have some drifting there again but i haven't heard if they have fixed that part of the track or if they ever will

I can see Rann and the goon squad setting up huge defect stations on port wakefield road that day, rather than encouraging the event

yeah im still iffy if i want to enter

BECAUSE OF THAT PATHETIC REASON BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO

YOU KNOW LIKE STOPPING DRUGS AND CRIMES

I heard they were still making the site safe for the public because of some land fill that contained asbestos.

This was coming from the guys that run the advanced driving course out there. We were only aloud to use the back of the track because of it.

But Im keen to see it open again. I remember the days taking my VK commy out there. I would like to take the GTR one day

I think you will find a lot of it was because no one was really going, and the events were losing money.

On Wednesday night import meets out there they were lucky to get 15 cars sometimes, and that was with plenty of radio advertising etc.

Something will need to change for someone to invest tons of money into getting drag racing going again here, because as a business case it doesnt look too good.

Wouldn't the whole site be off limits if that were true? They are pretty strict on it here. How can they run Gazzanats etc.

Matty, are those the same NT555Rs from some years ago? I guess they've had no additional heat cycles and as long as they've been stored correctly they should come up good as gold.

My 265/40/18 MT Street Radial 2 (bought them earlier this year) are sitting in the shed ready to go as soon as a full 1/4 mile track becomes available! Be it Cougar Raceway, Tailem Bend MSP, or a revamped AIR.

The limited track prep didn't help though. I can recall, in arse puckering detail, winding on more opposite lock than I was comfortable with in 3rd at ~140km/h just prior to the end of the wall... and all with a lowly 260rwkw.

The very next meet I scored an up close and personal view of what a Torrie looks like 6ft in the air and rolling over and over, tearing itself to piece in the process. Thankfully the young lady driving escaped with only minor injuries. Interestingly enough, at the recent Motorplex protest cruise through the CBD I ended up bumping into the owner of the Torrie in his Elfin MS8 (a good mate happens to own one himself).

Long term viability is questionable, particularly if more than one venue gets up and running, but the initial impact of a new drag racing facility will be immense! People will come out of the woodwork. Almost 6 years is a long time to wait for those that have gone without... I've even had to get into RC Helicopters and become a complete nerd as my alternative.

i think the whole thing of no one going boils down to

I'm not going to pay good money to go to a facility $20 standard meets and $30 national meets so see a flashing light at the end of the track no score boards light towers nothing what are we a 3rd world country

    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
    • When I said "wiring diagram", I meant the car's wiring diagram. You need to understand how and when 12V appears on certain wires/terminals, when 0V is allowed to appear on certain wires/terminals (which is the difference between supply side switching, and earth side switching), for the way that the car is supposed to work without the immobiliser. Then you start looking for those voltages in the appropriate places at the appropriate times (ie, relay terminals, ECU terminals, fuel pump terminals, at different ignition switch positions, and at times such as "immediately after switching to ON" and "say, 5-10s after switching to ON". You will find that you are not getting what you need when and where you need it, and because you understand what you need and when, from working through the wiring diagram, you can then likely work out why you're not getting it. And that will lead you to the mess that has been made of the associated wires around the immobiliser. But seriously, there is no way that we will be able to find or lead you to the fault from here. You will have to do it at the car, because it will be something f**ked up, and there are a near infinite number of ways for it to be f**ked up. The wiring diagram will give you wire colours and pin numbers and so you can do continuity testing and voltage/time probing and start to work out what is right and what is wrong. I can only close my eyes and imagine a rat's nest of wiring under the dash. You can actually see and touch it.
    • So I found this: https://www.efihardware.com/temperature-sensor-voltage-calculator I didn't know what the pullup resistor is. So I thought if I used my table of known values I could estimate it by putting a value into the pullup resistor, and this should line up with the voltages I had measured. Eventually I got this table out of it by using 210ohms as the pullup resistor. 180C 0.232V - Predicted 175C 0.254V - Predicted 170C 0.278V - Predicted 165C 0.305V - Predicted 160C 0.336V - Predicted 155C 0.369V - Predicted 150C 0.407V - Predicted 145C 0.448V - Predicted 140C 0.494V - Predicted 135C 0.545V - Predicted 130C 0.603V - Predicted 125C 0.668V - Predicted 120C 0.740V - Predicted 115C 0.817V - Predicted 110C 0.914V - Predicted 105C 1.023V - Predicted 100C 1.15V 90C 1.42V - Predicted 85C 1.59V 80C 1.74V 75C 1.94V 70C 2.10V 65C 2.33V 60C 2.56V 58C 2.68V 57C 2.70V 56C 2.74V 55C 2.78V 54C 2.80V 50C 2.98V 49C 3.06V 47C 3.18V 45C 3.23V 43C 3.36V 40C 3.51V 37C 3.67V 35C 3.75V 30C 4.00V As before, the formula in HPTuners is here: https://www.hptuners.com/documentation/files/VCM-Scanner/Content/vcm_scanner/defining_a_transform.htm?Highlight=defining a transform Specifically: In my case I used 50C and 150C, given the sensor is supposedly for that. Input 1 = 2.98V Output 1 = 50C Input 2 = 0.407V Output 2 = 150C (0.407-2.98) / (150-50) -2.573/100 = -0.02573 2.98/-0.02573 + 47.045 = 50 So the corresponding formula should be: (Input / -0.02573) + 47.045 = Output.   If someone can confirm my math it'd be great. Supposedly you can pick any two pairs of the data to make this formula.
