Hey fellas, not sure what people are doing tonight but Nick and I are going down to the Granny Smith festival to have a play with some fireworks photography. They put on a small fireworks show from the oval that is actually really nice.

City of Ryde's website seems to be down this site says the show is at 8:30 pm - hopefully their site will come back up soon so I can confirm.

Also worth noting, don't let the sedan appearance fool you, this thing is a freakin weapon..

to me it seems like the highlights have been tweaked alittle to give that hdr look, and the rear bumper seems different colour to the rest of the body..clean looking car though

Incredible view from the wedding ceremony :)

Hardest day to shoot with it raining in the morning then full bright sun, then overcast, then bright sun again.. everyone sweating and squinting. But what an awesome day it ended up being!!

Dont you love it with a guest walks in front to take a picture.

Still love the pic though.

Everyone outside. Felt sorry for the couple standing in the hot sun. Hardest thing to exposure and get the lighting correct.

OK I have a confession to make. I love big bold beautiful eyes. I should make a post one day of all my collection.

No editing to the eyes or skin at all for the next three pics. They really do have big bold beautiful eyes!!!!!

IMG_1796_resize.jpg

Yup no editing done to the eyes at all.

Another person that walked into my shot :(

But just love her eyes!!!

Awesome shots sidd, I reckon as a photographer at these sorts of events you have the perfect excuse to compliment women on their features while at the same time appearing genuine and not overtly hitting on them? "You have amazing eyes, never seen anything like em, I just have to take a photo of you!" "Brilliant, you're a natural! Have you ever had a photoshoot done before? No? I could do one for you if you're not busy next Saturday..." etc etc ;)

have a play with some fireworks photography

hope to see something fresh and new rather than the typical shots that every man and his dog takes. even just fresh new viewpoints would rock.

heres a pic i took a couple days ago with the kids camera...

panos with a full auto point and shoot can be challenging, lol.

awesome, im a sucker for a nice sunset.

and i love panoramic shots...

Matt - hahahahaha I know, but im too scared to approach and say that. Dont want to look like a perv or anything lol.

Jay - Excellent pano man.. Love it!!!! Now frame that asap and hang it on a wall. Looks incredible :)

^ nicely done man :)

btw for this shot of the ute you posted up: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6171/6233733585_bc3e85ee74_b.jpg

Wouldnt it be better to have all the cars in focus? I feel not every shot has to be a panning shot. But thats just my 2cents.

Canon just released an upgrade to my 1D mk4....

It's called the 1D X.

It shoots 14 frames per second!!

Has an ISO of up to 208500!!!

This is what one of my friends just sent me

cheers Sidd. looks great from a distance, but up close I can see a few places where it didnt stitch together so well.

but...

made myself a cheap and nasty pano head. probably not quit as good as a purpose built head, but should be better than handheld. will try it out today and post up the results.

I was snapping some quicker shots over the weekend Sidd, I agree with you, mixing it up is essential. I was panning that shot because I was shooting specifically for that team, so wanted to give them the full focus of attention.

Nicely done Jay. Should work a treat, who cares if it's not pretty. Ghetto mods rock! Most of my paint kit is ghetto as. sponsored by Jaycar and shonkiness :P

That 1Dx looks the shit. Lets see how nikon responds. I've been following the D800 rumour mill, 38mp or something ridiculous. Either way, the next step in cameras looks like it's going to be a pretty strong leap forward.

some more randoms. some from bathurst, some from forster...

At bathurst I was trying to shoot around the track too, focus on the culture and spirit of the event as much as the action on the track.

    • Get an inspection camera up there.
    • Yeah, but look at the margin in viscosity between the 40 and the 60 at 125°C. It is not very large. It is the difference between 7 and 11 cP. Compare that to the viscosity at only 90°C. The viscosity axis is logarithmic. The numbers at 90 are ~15 and ~35. That is about half for the 40 wt oil and <half for the 60. You give up viscosity EXPONENTIALLY as temperature rises. Literally. That is why I declare thicker oil to be a bandaid, and a brittle one at that. Keep the oil temperature under about 110°C and you should be better off.   Having said all of that, which remains true as a general principle, if you have indeed lost enough oil from the sump that the pump was seeing slightly aerated oil, then all bets are off. That would of course cause oil pressure to collapse. And 35 psi is a collapse given what you were doing to the engine. Especially if the oil was that hot and viscosity had also collapsed. And I would put money on rod or main bearings being the source of the any noise that registered as knock. Hydraulic lifters should be able to cope with the hotter oil and lower pressure enough to prvent too much high frequency noise, although I am willing to admit it could be the source.
    • Thanks for the reply mate. Well I really hope its a hose then not engine out job
    • But.... the reason I want to run a 60 weight is so at 125C it has the same viscosity as a 40 weight at 100C. That's the whole reason. If the viscosity changes that much to drop oil pressure from 73psi to 36psi then that's another reason I should be running an oil that mimics the 40 weight at 100C. I have datalogs from the dyno with the oil pressure hitting 73psi at full throttle/high RPM. At the dyno the oil temp was around 100-105C. The pump has a 70psi internal relief spring. It will never go/can't go above 70psi. The GM recommendation of 6psi per 1000rpm is well under that... The oil sensor for logging in LS's is at the valley plate at the back of  the block/rear of where the heads are near the firewall. It's also where the knock sensors are which are notable for 'false knock'. I'm hoping I just didn't have enough oil up top causing some chatter instead of rods being sad (big hopium/copium I know) LS's definitely heat up the oil more than RB's do, the stock vettes for example will hit 300F(150C) in a lap or two and happily track for years and years. This is the same oil cooler that I had when I was in RB land, being the Setrab 25 row oil cooler HEL thing. I did think about putting a fan in there to pull air out more, though I don't know if that will actually help in huge load situations with lots of speed. I think when I had the auto cooler. The leak is where the block runs to the oil cooler lines, the OEM/Dash oil pressure sender is connected at that junction and is what broke. I'm actually quite curious to see how much oil in total capacity is actually left in the engine. As it currently stands I'm waiting on that bush to adapt the sender to it. The sump is still full (?) of oil and the lines and accusump have been drained, but the filter and block are off. I suspect there's maybe less than 1/2 the total capacity there should be in there. I have noticed in the past that topping up oil has improved oil pressure, as reported by the dash sensor. This is all extremely sketchy hence wanting to get it sorted out lol.
