By the time you bog up a distorted alloy bonnet, might as well mould a fiberglass bulge on. However, if you read my previous posts, I would not choose this platform to modify in the first place if i had funds, and not buying a house. So, thats where the SR20 idea is coming into play now: - 4cyl - cheaper to run & maintain - z32 box adapter to sr20 readily avaliable (so cheap)and the box will hold up fine to abuse. - Car itself still looks ok and modern-ish - Still has faily large aftermarket support. All i would get would probably be some suspension mods, besides the standard cooler/zorst. I know its not ideal to have an 4cyl in it for the weight, but i dont have much of a choice with my budget. Car would be a daily, and weekends up in the hills. As for, why not keep VG30dett, well i dont have tools/knowladge to work on it with those space constraints, so this would fix that prob. Not looking at breaking any records with speed/handling, just want a cheap turbo car - while trying something different to your 1 million skyline/silvias around...In my opinion, with little weight reduction, suspensions mods and hopefully around 200rwkw from the SR, this could be a fun hills/daily car. LOL, i have shit all mechanical knowledge and i can work on my 300ZX without a problem. As for fuel consumption, good luck, your putting a weaksauce motor into a heavy car so you'll need to rev harder to go anywhere. Also a VG30DETT will pull 200rwkw with an exhaust & pod filter, with bucketloads more torque then an SR20. I've seen more modded ones do 270rwkw on stock turbos. Well the engine has to come out anyway if you are doing an engine conversion. Also removing a vg30dett from a z32 is a peice of cake compared to doing an engine conversion. This is based on owning both an r32 GTR and a z32 300zx. Provided the turbos are looked after and run in the appropriate boost range (up to 14psi on stock turbos) they last at least 100,000 k's. Mine have lasted 120,000 k's. Removing the engine every 100, 000 k's isn't exactly onerous. But hey if you want to do an engine conversion, with a smaller engine with no vct, and which requires an engineer's certificate, with the intention of saving money, then good for you. Would be interested to see the write up and how much money you saved at the end of it.
