How Long Have You Been Without Your Camera?

Hey,

Just wondering how long people have been without their camera for... Came back from Europe and its been in repairs for 14 days already. Dam killing me!!! Had never been into photography until i went to Europe and now dont really know what to do without a camera in my bag or hand lol

Anyway just wanted to share some frustration!!!!!

It only needs a calibration... I was pretty upset at them last week (missed two shoots with it now) - So they promised me I'll have it this week. But then lots of promises have fell through :(

Hoping for the best though. What about you?

Got my EOS 1n mk2 body in at Canon Japan for full service.

Dropped it in around 10 days ago and ready to pick up at the end of the week.

Got to love the Japanese service.

hmmm, so jealous of the 10 day turnaround!!!!

Pretty disappointed with my gear actually and Nikon in general! Bought 4 lenses and a body before i went to Europe for 7 months and within that time all the rubber has pershied on the lenses and body and literally got through the trip on lacker bands and tape.

Second to that the body is horrible with the autofocus. Put it on a tripod and focus with liveview and its perfect at getting the focus right. Try the same thing in AF single point and it misses the mark by a ½ to a meter. No idea what’s going on but it gave me the Sh1t’s that’s for sure! Just want it fixed and back!!!!!

If you look at a D90 there are quite alot of rubber grips and rubber openings. They are held on by glue or pop in pop out of the indented holes. Over time the rubber has expanded and the glues perished so the rubber has peeled off and the rubber openings i.e where you plug things in no longer fit and just dangle. My oberservation is its maybe from heat and moisture but really mine has experienced no more then anyone else. Never been wet, and only taken to some warm places. All the rubbers on my zoom rims have expanded and are help on by lacker bands. There not even attached to the lens anymore. The focus ring is never an issue.

I guess thats what you get when you dont buy pro level equipment!!! But seriosuly i expect a little more of the semi pro range!!!!

How did the "rubber" etc... fall off? Unless it got dunked in saltwater i can't see how that is even possible.

What Rubber also? The zoom/focus rings?

on my d90 some of the rubber on the back of the body started to lift out (the corner above the LiveView button) during two days of shooting at oran park (da 09)

by the end of the second day i also had a blister that made shooting quite painful. ive since wondered how a similar spec'd canon would have felt after two days of shooting.

gloves may or may not have helped, but i never really got around to giving them a try.

Perhaps I'm lucky, but ask around, I flog the shit out of my gear, shooting in 40' heat and rain, shooting for whole days on end. Never had one single drama or issue with my camera. I've been really impressed by it. Did I get lucky? Apart from a couple little, light scratches on the back screen my camera looks and functions as if it were still new. It's probably had about 40k to 50k actuations

      I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.

      Ahhhh... If you were putting 12V to the led in there, that's likely made it very unhappy. Chances are how you put power, was 12V across an LED that's meant to only have about 20mA through it at peak, and a forward voltage of about 1.8 to 2.4 volts. That circuit is likely only a 3V3 circuit, and will have a resistor in series with the led too. That's my guesstimate on that light, without having touched one.

      Another vote for installing them and see how you go.  I mean, you already own them, why would you not fit them?

      I have had too many of those over the years, my cars have a toolkit or at minimum a cheapy multi tool thing because its too easy to be snookered by some stupid plastic clip that stops you checking the battery terminal isn't loose.

      Basically, if there is a part# on the nissan catalogue, it is a genuine part. There is a thing called "new old stock" which is stuff made years ago but never sold (or landfilled), but it is super hit and miss what you can buy. Other than some expensive Nismo stuff there is nothing new being made that suits these cars. The only time to be a little careful is (mostly in the US I think, but maybe Japan too), Nissan started rebranding some cheap crap maintenance parts like oil filters as "Pitworks"; stay away from them, if you are buying cheap just buy whatever the local car parts shop carries The three part numbers have an explanation on Amayama: 0V005 is auto, base style 0V015 is manual 0V505 is auto, hectic momo branded ones, maximum F&F points there!
