Hi guys,

I have been looking at getting this R34 GTT (http://www.carsales....Cr=2&R=11300967), now i have inspected it once, going back again tomorrow most likely to inspect it more thoroughly.

Anyway here is the deal. The owner said he will give me the car for the advertised price of $17,450 and it will include Rego, stamp duty, mechanical inspection (i am thinking take to Racepace), panel beating work on a small 10cm scratch on right side front bumper and a coil over issue (said there is a slight misfire in one of the coils).

The car looks real clean exterior wise (apart from the scratch on front bumper) and interior is ok (gear knob has a small chunk taken out of it, otherwise ok).

The car has very low kms and comes with a very nice sounding exhaust + HKS hypermax series II suspension.

So my question is, is this a good deal in your eyes? I know this is a pretty broad question and depends on an individuals budget etc....but putting those aspects aside, would you consider this a steal?

Thanks in advance!

Looks pretty tidy, buddy. I would get a full independent inspection then go from there. Have a look at some other examples as well, if you are not familiar with R34's and how they drive.

I would say there is room for haggling too...

Gotta be careful of those coilover missfires..

haha yeah I loled at that part.

The car looks good from what I can see besides the suspiciously low kms (probably wound back or new cluster). Unfortunately the kinds of people who import these cars and sell them (not a proper car dealer) often get dodgy road worthys and play dumb if something goes wrong. I know this from personal experience. Having the car checked out by somebody trustworthy is a good idea.

The only issue I can think of is that he will give you a rwc with the car as it is, but if you get an EPA or defect for the exhaust I don't think he would want to help out, so you might be on your own trying to source a stock exhaust.

Yep!

Happened with my R34 25GT, had a missfire in one of my coilovers, causing me to run on 5 cylinders for awhile before i sourced new ones. Ended up installing Splitfires, which have worked a treat ;).

As mentioned in OP I will be getting it checked out by a mechanic, most likely by Racepace before i do buy :).

Good advise bro, i'll make sure he gets a RWC done at a trust worthy place and i'll make sure the exhaust is legal as well.

BTW yes i am srs about the coilover misfire lol.

dude in all serious I'm looking for a GTT myself and all of the ones listed on car sales are shit. that's my opinion anyway. If the coil is misfiring I HIGHLY doubt the 49XXX is legit, maybe put another digit infront of the 4.

found one decent one (not on carsales, off here) but it had been smashed as front quarter didn't line up with bonnet or door bit sus and owner would not allow a test on it (lol)

for the price he's asking there are nicer ones on car sales, the warnambool one black gtt looks the best for around 20k

from the pics looks like a home made import business and guessing the other white gtt on carsales is his also.

in short I wouldn't go near it, but if your happy then goodluck :)

Comeon ash dont take the piss it's evident he needs some help

Especially with his coilovers

Op ur misfire is coil packs not coil overs .

O didnt look at the link but ur description it sounds overpriced imo.

LMAO rookie mistake....i got them mixed up hahaha sorry!

Encase you haven't noticed already i am pretty new to the Skyline/Car scene so i am allowed to make a rookie mistake like that once in a while eh? ;)

Thanks for your help guys, there just isn't much for sale on carsales at the moment and the only reason this one caught my eye was it has low kms and is almost factory standard (staying away from modded cars).

I guess i shall keep looking then or maybe see if i can get it checked out and bargin the price down.

my coilovers misfire and now im accidentally hellaflush :O

looks pretty kleen but WAY overpriced imho. usually for something at that price, you could get one with a few tastey but basic mods.

kms look heaps sus.

i would pay no moar than 14k tbh but that me..and ima kid. (unemployment ftw?)

but yea its going to be your car and you've inspected it but ask yourself..is it worth 17k?

(not rhetorical)

$17k is a little pricey, i'd be dubious of the km's. But if you want a clean unmodified version, and an independent vehicle inspection gives it the tick, then you might just have to pay the extra $$$.

Have you considered other skylines? Early model R33 GTR's are cheap theses days if you want save some extra $$$, older cars, but much better bang for buck comparing stock for stock. A few mods on the GTR will go a long way.

    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. You need one of these, can't do the job without it: https://navarapart.com.au/product/genuine-nissan-patrol-y62-d23-np300-navara-re7-dipstick-fill-connector1 You need a heap of compatible transmission oil. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush... Also, you need some biiig oil catch trays, at least one of these, or bigger if possible (volume was fine, size was very marginal): https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Tools-%26-Garage/Specialty-Tools/Oil-Service/Garage-Tough-Oil-Drain-Pan-Black-16L---GT1068/p/TO03191 Finally, a measuring jug is very useful if your pump does not have volumes marked on it, I got a 6l one: https://www.repco.com.au/oils-fluids/fluid-accessories/measuring-jugs/penrite-measuring-jug-6l-pmj006/p/A5322648 Oh, and gloves.....this stuff is horrible (not as bad as diff oil, but getting there) ....First, jack up your car.....
    • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.
    • our good friends at nismo make a diff for it, I have one (and a spare housing to put the centre in) on the way. https://www.nismo.co.jp/products/web_catalogue/lsd/mechanical_lsd_v37.html AMS also make a helical one, but I prefer mechanical for track use in 2wd (I do run a quaife in the front, but not rear of the R32)
